I accidently ordered this when i did my exhaust cutout so i returned them and got the regular ones because i was just doing 2.5 to 2.5" pipe. Well after i got the cutout and already returned the clamps i realized 2.5" popes are not created equal and this stepdown is exactly what i need. Went ahead and installed it with the regular ones cuz i already cutout the exhaust and wow its janky. Tried using exhaust tape too equalize the dimensions but nothings working. Got a lose rattly exhaust. Thankgot some genius came up with this stepdown!!!

I put a new cat back exhaust on my car a couple of weeks ago. The joints are all slip fit. I have to do some adjustments and I'm going to replace the clamps that came with the exhaust with lap joint clamps. I've used them on my trucks and cars with a lot of success.
To me it's well worth the extra expense for the peace of mind.

2:05 This is EXACTLY what I needed to know. I need to cut out both of my catalytic converters to clear a clog, then put them back on, and I was fretting over the "put it back together" stage (the fasteners further down the line have merged with the resonator, and 24 dollars in couplers is cheaper than 400-900 dollars in a whole new exhaust). Welp, looks like I know what I'm doing Saturday now.

How did the cat cleaning go?

@@squarebodyseth5986 Deleted them and straight-piped that part of the exhaust. The honeycomb was flooded with fuel and falling apart so they weren't salvageable.

NAPA sells these. Our local store has a variety in stock. Glad I bumped into this video, didn't know this clamp existed and my elbow below my exhaust manifold keeps popping off when using the cheap u bolt clamps.

Or make sure you get the heavy -duty U clamps. They make a difference.

my exhaust pipe like this is rusted off and stuck inside on the muffler, the muffler is in great shape , any ideas how to get the end of the exhaust pipe out of the muffler?

I would simply replace it. You will spend far too much time, energy, and frustration otherwise.

Cut slits in the flange of the muffler where it slips over the pipe, pound on it with a air hammer a little bit to shock the rust free then put the pipe in a vise and use a piece of a 2x4 to pound on the muffler down wards as not to damage it, next time you slip fit a piece of pipe and want to take it off in the future coat the slip fit with anti seize, most of it will burn off but it will leave enough of a residue to stop everything from seizing together

@HorsepowerHouse so can you use these to connect 2.5 pipe to 2.25 pipe?

Imagine a solid slice of pipe with a cut through it but the other ends are fixed in place so you slip it over one side,.....
Can you simply remove the bolts and then open the gap on the clamp enough to get over the outside diameter of the pipe?
Or will I need to loosen these pipes up to get it to slip on?

    • @HorsepowerHouse
      @HorsepowerHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

I guess you will see when you try. You can often loosen the clamp and slide the pipe in or out to make fit best.

The but joint comes flat so those you can
Also the ones I bought from AutoZone
The D-shape metal part and the bolts rust bad
I actually snapped the bolts off a year later
