    Great video and find! I really like some of the odd crossings which can be found on industrial spurs.

    This will happen where spurs separate from mainlines. There was a similar case where the CSX feeder line to the Morgantown power plant met the old US Government feeder line (now the Western Charles Rail Trail). There are some partially-pulled Federal Signal light sets along the Western Charles Rail Trail - I have to get pictures of them so you can see them - one is on MD 224 (Livingston Road), and another is on MD 225 (Hawthorne Road) where the tracks (and now the Rail Trail) crosses each state road. The WCRT runs between White Plains and Indian Head, MD. The tracks themselves are gone, and the WCRT itself is now maintained by the Charles County Department of Public Facilities. I remember when the feeder line actually had train traffic - I'm not THAT old; the trains stopped running SINCE I became an adult. The ONLY complete light and gate set (also Federal Signal) was completely pulled by CSX - where the eastern end of that feeder line met the CSX feed line to the Morgantown power station (which is still active, and has changed hands three times just since 1990 when Potomac Electric Power got out of the power-generation business) - that line crossed US 301 (Robert Crain Highway) in White Plains. The building that abuts the WCRT is a former Lower's Home Improvement - it is now occupied by the Charles County Department of Health.

    Nice find! Looks like that was installed by an industries that is/was there. The bell is likely a custom job, it seems.

      Thanks! That's exactly what I was thinking. Rather odd. It appeared that cement plant there was the only industry as well because the road is called Co Rd 150 and Cement Plant Road.

      I wonder what kind of bar the crossings had to connect the lights, most likely a custom job! Beautiful find, Odd crossings!

    Great video. Those transport products light kinda look like Australia’s old Mck&h lights . Odd bells. Usually if I can’t find any markings or logos on the base I’d say it’s a unmarked base . I also upload railway/railroad crossing videos.

    The bells are Federal Signal "Vibratones"
    www.fedsig.com/product/vibratone-bells
    The signals use traffic light bases instead of normal crossing signal bases. The signals are also yellow most likely to catch people's attention or because it's in an industrial area. The only strange thing is that there aren't any crossbucks.

    *I checked the Federal Railroad Administration's database and none of these crossings are showing up. My guess is, these spurs were taken out sometime in the 70s. I checked some historic aerials from 1969 and there are multiple spurs active there at that time with visible rail cars. So it was being used in 1969. Those spurs look like they lead to railroad tracks on what is now called "Putnam Nature Trail". No railroad tracks are there now. Unfortunately, I can't find any aerials from the 70s or 80s. The next entry is from 1998 and those tracks are long gone. The fact that those private crossings never were in the DOT database means the tracks probably got ripped out before better government enforcement of railroad records in the late 70s and beyond.*
    There are only 3 closed crossings in the DOT database for Limedale, IN. They are:
    Crossing DOT# 540387B Manhattan Road.
    Crossing DOT# 540388H Buzzard Roost RD.
    Crossing DOT# 540489P Moore Road.

    • @kyleb06
      @kyleb06  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would've got ripped up around the early 90s

      They're Federal Signal Vibratone bells which aren't used as fire bells.

  • @natestrains1166

    L&N used transport products lights. They also used school bells like these to lower costs.

      They weren't the only one who used Transport Products lights, and these aren't the same bells they used.

    The first signal likely had a bell at one time. I'm pretty sure that would be standard as per DOT rules.

    • @kyleb06
      @kyleb06  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not standard. There are many crossings here in Indiana that have no bells.
