The reason why Ham Hall railway is no longer in use, is because first of all,it is named after the country house the railway was built on, and secondly Ham Hall was also a colliery, and the reason it was closed, either the coal mine closed, or it was one of the railways that Breeching closed
What a crossing... Signs tagged or damaged, wigwags damaged as well and very mossy, lights destroyed, some of them don't have any bulbs. All that in a line that looks like it has never seen any train, so the crossing hasn't "closed" once (in quotation because no barriers here!) All that in the middle of nowhere, aside from the river just before it. Quite a shame, and quite sad to see.
Now that is pretty cool! Also quite tragic at the same time in that it has never been used. Interesting how most of the red/amber light covers are missing, which makes the crossing look really tired, but also really interesting at the same time. If I'm ever up that way, I'll have a look myself, as this peice of infrastructure is pretty iconic and one-of-a-kind! Fabulous showcase and a very informative description there! 😁👍👍
Thanks! 😁👍 Yeah, whilst it's a very interesting crossing to look at, it is a bit sad looking at the state it's now left in, damaged and vandalized. Would've been a nice crossing had trains actually used this line if it was completed.

Nice video! 😁👍 Probably one of my favourite abandoned crossings within my area - pretty unique! This crossing was installed in late 1999 (or early 2000) I believe. It’s very strange that this spur was being built but never got completed in the end.
Thank you 😁 Yeah, was a bit sad looking at the vandalized signs and damaged warning lights. I'm surprised it's all still here and was never removed. Now left to reveal a line that was never completed or used
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel hey there! I wonder if there would be any plans to reopen this part of the railway branch at Coleshill? It could be a good stretch for crosscountry.
The railway line seen in the video was built for a power station, however I don't think it was ever built and is now a large industrial estate. As a result, I don't think there will be any need for this line at all now.
The railway line across the crossing was never completed and stopped around 200 metres away. It was supposed to run into the industrial estate. Thank you, greetings from the UK 🙂

Wow, that's a strange crossing. It reminds me very much of the crossing in Shoeburyness. You probably haven't heard of it but in Shoebury high street, right next to the train station, there is a single track railway that crosses the road. It has manual gates, which I imagine the driver uses, and the railway disappears into a field and goes behind some houses. Every night between 22:30 and 00:30 a train carrying ammunition to the MOD place in Shoberyness uses it. When I go there to visit some family, I can hear it's horn just as I am getting ready for bed. I was wondering if you knew about it or wanted to film it. I have walked over the tracks many times but I have never stayed up to film it. Kind regards, Boom😄.
Thanks Boom 😁 I have actually heard of that crossing and know roughly where it is. I've not yet been to it though. Interesting it's used late at night.
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel Yeah, I think it’s used at that time so that there is no traffic. The gates only cover the pavement so the train has to go into the road barrierless. I don’t know when the train returns though🤔😄.
@@SgtChip Yeah, that would make sense but it comes at the same time every night and it’s tones echo over the whole of Shoebury. I imagine they do it at that time because the driver has to get out and open the gates, stopping traffic by hand because there are no lights or electric barriers👍.
I missed this one when you uploaded it! Out of all the abandoned crossings, I think this one is interesting where it was put in but the line was never completed. Great you managed to get up there and film it 👍
Thank you 😁 Yeah, it's very weird seeing this crossing and then the line ending only a few hundred metres further up. I was glad to see it was all still here.
I can imagine the vegetation is much more dense in the summer, which over time has caused damage to all the warning lights. The track isn't that bad, but the signals are quite hidden.
That's truly a waste of good equipment. It's only hope now is preservation (unlikely) or reactivation and finishing of the spur for industrial purposes (can't even describe how unlikely). Good call on not pushing the plungers for the crossing. If those rail signals are still on and working, it likely means all of the wiring is ready, and the quiet nature preserve would have had an odd noise join: A Yodalarm.
Unfortunately both of those things are very unlikely as there's now not much to preserve at this crossing, and the line was built for a power station which is now a large industrial estate. I was tempted to see what happened but as you said, the chance the equipment might still work was why I didn't tamper with the plungers.
If you walked left up the line, where would it take you to? It would be interesting to see where it leads, even though its derelict, perfect place for walkers
It would eventually lead to the Mainline which I believe is fenced off a few hundred metres down. There are buffers and the end of the line only 100 metres in the other direction.
