  • Today I am talking about how to sit the canter. Sitting the canter sometimes is challenging, but a rewarding experience when you do it correctly. In this video, I explain how to sit the canter properly and also common issues such as how to sit the canter without bouncing and avoiding rolling the shoulders. I hope this helps you in your quest to become a better rider and you learn how to sit the canter better :)

      yes very helpful. my problem with canter is that for some reason I always squeeze my thighs and knees and bring them up making me lose balance. I can't keep my legs down and long. and I always lose the stirrup and have trouble getting my feet back in them. (I'm more comfortable doing a canter without stirrups but my coach doesn't want me to do that.) the same thing happens when Im do sitting trot my knees always go up and I bounce and lose balance.

    I have two problems with canter🤔
    1. I don't know how to start canter from the right leg(for the horse)
    2. I sometimes lose my stirrups
    I had those problems at the last stable I went to ride and it honestly was a terrible place for both learners and the horses couldn't go into paddocks and had to be in stalls all day unless they went to one of the "classes" and then there they wouldn't behave well ☹️ The trainers weren't very good either, so I'm searching for a new stable but also trying to understand my own mistakes. Really grateful I found this channel♥️

    Today I cantered for the second time ever and I fell off the horse. I was too tense which caused me to lose my strength, my body got tired and I just flew. But I love the feeling of being in canter and I can't wait for my next class.

      I tried cantering for the first time yesterday and I lost control completely, my feet fell out of the stirrups, my bum was out of the saddle, my hands were too high, I completely lost confidence to do it again. How do you still remain confident to canter again?

    • @martinarusalka5105
      @martinarusalka5105 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brookebarrett3306 I had a good experience as well. It keeps me going. Some three weeks ago I fell off again and it was pretty bad as I injured my hip. But still I didn't lose my motivation. The only thing bothering me at the moment are younger girls laughing while I'm learning. Everyone is cantering without issues, just me still gripping to the saddle and being in panic mode. It's a bit frustrating to be honest.

    Very useful, I've been doing the canter at lessons but for a while, I've always been bad for leaning back which really does no favours to your seat... Now I'm more settled in the upright position and also keeping my hands lower - seeing the difference is really helpful. Will definetly be trying out those exercises to help with movement and build up strength.

    Yes that is something I struggle on at my Horseriding I really need to work on my canters because I get a little bumpy so I’ll try the advice

    The horse I normally ride, his name is River. He tends to start going faster and he’s not the best listener. While trotting, if you let him he would just start to canter. This video really helped for my next lesson. If he starts cantering I would at least know how to position myself correctly, and even impress my trainer 🤣
