    Sitting to canter correctly is important so that you do not drive the horse onto the forehand by your canter position. It's very easy to get left behind and have the horse charge out from underneath you in the canter, especially with a horse that is very much on the forehand.
    Dressage Training TV provides instructional videos, articles, audio and live webinars. We cover subjects such as groundwork, rider biomechanics, competing, test riding, equine & human bodywork and rider fitness.

    I tried this today and the first thing my trainer said was it looked like something had clicked for me at the canter. I’ve been having trouble recently where the horse speeds off and i just keep pushing forward to stay sitting and this completely changed my canter!!

    I listened to this a couple of days ago and I have to say......I've cantered on many horses but the one I'm currently riding is a bit more difficult and today I tried this dip back and it was a game changer....just wow....thank you

    The very best video I've ever seen on cantering. And free to boot. The scooping motion is how most of us are taught so this is truly an Ah-Ha lesson. I see a number of people complaining that you didn't ride in the video. There are zillions of videos on YT purporting to show how to ride the canter and many of them feature very good riders but trying to instruct from the saddle is -- for me at least -- totally ineffective. They tell you what they're doing but you can't see it. Or they tell you what they're doing but you couldn't do it yourself because your horse isn't highly trained like theirs. This will help literally everybody.

    The explanation of what not to do and why is excellent, but the section on what to do and how to do it is frustratingly brief. I would have loved another minute or two at the end really demonstrating the correct motion in every way - live demo; graphics, slo mo etc. I can sense that you are teaching something really valuable but am left half-satisfied and intrigued. Thank you for your knowledge and dedication and please add!

    I would benefit from seeing more video of the rider actually riding the canter at the end, with Mary speaking/coaching as she does.

    I'm far from an expert, but have found in my personal experience that movement needs to be adjusted to each horse's individual canter.

    • @epona9166
      @epona9166 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure of your point. All horses have the same footfall at canter, which is what she's talking about. And the movement she's suggesting would be appropriate whether the horse is heavy on the forehand or light on the forehand. Certainly horses' canters vary, depending on their training and conformation, with some being so smooth the rider barely has to think about it. Lucky them, but that's not the case for most horses and riders.

    Good set-up, but the interesting part (a visual of a horse being cantered) was remarkably short. Not enough for me to see if the technique might have any effect.

    My horse when i am in an arena and when i go into canter my horse always puts her bum into the arena so its like there is two railways next to each other and her bum is on one and her head is on the other

    Can you tell me the cm of the ball you use? Do you know the brand as well? I know these balls go by your height. May I ask how tall you are too please? Thanks

    • @homesteadtotable2921
      @homesteadtotable2921 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tracy Black I own two balls, a 75cm “women’s” ball and a 90cm “men’s” ball. I’m 5’10” (or about 176cm) tall, and long legged (the seat in every car I drive is always as far back as it goes, to be comfortable), and the 90cm is a better size for me. Based on size charts, I got the wrong one, until a physical therapist pointed out that for me doing childbirth related exercises (similar pelvic movements to riding), my hips have to be higher than my knees. If you can try them at the store, that’d be the best. Now the smaller ball isn’t useless. It can be used to do planks and push-ups and stuff for better core balance, but it does take up room.
