My Reference 500 with dedicated Sun Amp is in the mail. I have been watching several install videos on TH-cam , your video is unique. The Zoom Audio sample is a winner ! And Jesse has made me turn the corner on any doubts of a solo install. Thank you for your contribution. ✊🙂

I added the Reference 500 system with single sub about a year ago. It was a very significant upgrade over stock. I know I could build a similar setup at about 2/3 the cost, but this system was simple plug and play. No splicing, no figuring anything out. It is all done for you.

i used the link in your vid I'm going to try a pair , nice vid my JBL SPEAKERS are done my warranty will cover them but I'm going to try the kicker .
Rob. If u really want to see an improvement in sound quality u need to install some sound deadening in the doors. Made a huge improvement for my truck when i upgraded my speakers.
Yes. Damping was absolutely considered but I wanted to see the sound improvement with the drivers independently. At least we know it's not too bad to open up.

Did you purchase these from OEM or are you being sponsored? ... I replaced all of my stock speakers with Kicker (including the Subaru tweeter upgrade that you previously had) and found the improvement over stock to be amazing, even unamplified. I also installed sound deadening material around and behind the door speaker locations - no rattles or buzzing, and the doors sound more solid when closing them. I really don’t hear any difference in your two samples, which is why I’m asking ...
Using the phone was my concern but the sound recorder picked up the AC vent noise causing a noticeable static noise. Phones don't have nowhere the sensitivity of a sound recorder. If you wear headphones and crank up the volume, you can definitely hear the rattle. That is from the speaker not the panel.
Sound damping / deadening is factually effective even using stock speakers. I didn't want to add that in my comparison as you already mentioned makes a difference.

Just ordered the Subaru/ Kicker Tweeters. Will do the Kicker front and rear next. Can you post a link of the deadening material you bought?
Yes. I removed anything on the door panels prior to testing. Same tracks , same volume
Steve b, do you have 2020? I heard the output on 2020 is awful compared to 16-19. I ordered kicker cs’s and now im reading the stock head unit cant push it

Oem+. Not as tinny

For $130 you can use the Bose Soundlink II. it’s a Bluetooth speaker that just may sound better than the system upgrade many have done. It’s portable too so you can use it on your tailgate and anywhere else your imagination will bring you. I just did this for my 2021 Tacoma Pro. Just trying to share an idea that possibly could be both cheaper and better. Peace

No deadening. Best bang are tweeters I had.
