  • The CrowdStrike Outage - WTF Happened?
According to Microsoft, the CrowdStrike debacle affected 8.5M Windows machines! Yeah, but how many were servers and how many were clients?
Easiest explanations come from Dave Plummer's @DavesGarage TH-cam channel - shout out to him for making this so easy to understand:
    • CrowdStrike IT Outage ...
    • CrowdStrike Update: La...
Could WinPE (Preinstall Environment) not be able to help to fix the problem, along with:
    PXE Boot, Wake-On-LAN, TPM/IPMI/vPro
Create a boot-up environment, pass the BitLocker key through (even if plain text) and execute script to remove culprit file.
Lots of misinformation in the press - horrible journalism!
In CIO - Gyana Swain article
    www.cio.com/ar...
"exposed the fragility of cloud-dependent systems where a single point of failure can have cascading effects"
What cloud environments exactly is the article referring to?
This seemingly affected mainly Client machines running Windows 10/11, NOT cloud! Utter garbage!
We actually DO NOT KNOW because only what we can see (end user machines). Even if it did break Windows Servers - what's THAT got to do with the cloud??
This catastrophic failure cannot be BECAUSE we are running in the cloud - that's a ludicrous jump to conclusions
Conflating TWO SEPARATE things, completely; an update that broke Windows vs running workloads in the cloud
And before you say "Linux" - here's something to chew over:
