I'm really glad you liked this. Having Floor at the end is just a bonus with all of the wonderful talent that Arjen contracts for this project.
So Ayreon is a solo project with a ton of guest musicians from all over the world and across genres. Ayreon live performances are very rare but when they do happen, they are absolutely amazing as I'm sure you will see in the future.
Arjen Lucassen is a Dutch master composer musician that writes epic fantastic prog rock for over 30 years now. He did a lot of instruments in this track. It is the long happy dude. He has no band. He invites top musicians and up to 25 of the world top singers to take part in his projects. And you know what? Almost all of them come because they are honoured to be asked by Arjen and love to cooperate with the other singers. The outcome is the very best prog rock on this planet. I visited a show of Ayreon in 2023. My goosebumps are here to stay. The joy radiates from the podium. Up to 60 nationalities in the public, flown in from the world over. And 25 main singers on the podium. You can try out anything from Arjen. He does not do bad music. But for starters a track from his upcoming DVD from the concert I witnessed: The sixth extinction from the 01011001 beneath the waves concert 2023. Be sure to take the official recording from Arjen, not the bootleg.
But Everybody dies is also fantastic, and so on and so on.

I was there too in sept 2023. The just released video on YT of the song The Sixth Extinction Ayreon - Live Beneath The Waves is a very good starting point to get acquainted with the live shows! (Few there may be…which is understandable while working with musicians from all over the world). This recent show featured the while Ayreon 01011001 album (translate to Y - meaning planet Y). Btw that’s the planet the human ancestors flee to as there home planet Alpha collapses. The scifi story spans multiple albums, all taking place in the fictitious universe composer/producer/musician Arjen Lucassen created. As Arjen is currently working on his next project (Plan Nine) and has to this date published 30 albums (many of them double albums) it will be clear by now that this is a very deep rabbit hole.
The good part is there is a lot of wonderful music to discover, studio work as well as live show tracks. Most is it published on the YT channel of Arjen Anthony Lucassen.
Others mentioned a reaction request of,the song Everybody Dies from the Ayreon Universe live show. Also a freat performance and also on the album The Source.

@@MrTjonke Two daughters now...👩👩👧👧 The youngest was born in September 2023. Therefore she had to cancel a few Nightwish concerts, and could she not take part in the Ayreon concert Beneath the Waves 2023. She was replaced by Brittney Slayes, who joined the Ayreon clan there and then.

Ooh did you just post two reaction vids with Simone Simons in it without knowing it? She's also in Epica! I saw Kathy was feeling this one! But yeah, what's not to like about Ayreon. Just the concept alone of having so many talented artists from different bands working together with the writer to make albums with whole stories in em. It's like a prog rock musical. This video is the perfect way to get to know Ayreon a bit. These reaction videos make me realize I live in a country with so much musical talent that you won't hear on the radio! I'm glad so many reaction channels from all over the world get to enjoy Dutch artists and it makes me proud!

Arjen Lucassen, the tall dude on guitar, basically discovered Floor Jansen and her sister Irene when Floor was only 19.
He recruited them for his STAR ONE project and has used them on Ayreon projects many times since.
Everyone who works with Arjen loves him and returns again and again. Because there is no-one else like him doing what he is doing.

Hi, I don't know if you know that Floor Jansen has a prehistoric beetle. Last year, scientist Andreas Weigel discovered a new species of beetle and named it "Tmesisternus floorjansenae". The singer was extremely happy to have a six-legged namesake, which she did not hide on her Facebook account, and biologist Jukka Salmela discovered a new species of small insect, which he named "Sciophila holopaineni", paying tribute to Tuomas Holopainen - the founder of the band. See it as an opera. All singers have chracters to fill in. F E the guy with the many voices plays the android TH-1. Therefore his lyrics are in binary. The storytelling is the main theme. This is based on "the source", how a small group of the Alphans are forced to leave their planet to preserve their genes, but they must adapt.... Another genius opera is played live and appears with all its songs on internet called "The Electric Castle and other tales"
The singers all know each other well, they are part of the Ayreon clan. Simone Simons is a regular guest and she is lead singer of the band Epica. And do not underestimate the keyboard player Joost van den Broek. If you listen to Floor's cover of Hearts song "Alone" then notice how his keyplay leads the vocals through the song. And Joost was a longterm band mate of Floor.

Ayreon in Arjen, every album is an amazing concept piece with incredible vocalists from several big bands. My favorite is 'Inside The Electric Castle' and from that i love the song "Tunnel of Light! "
Ayreon isn't a band, it's a project, Arjen Lucassen made a few projects like The Electric Castle, Star One, Universe etc.
Arjen Lucassen is definatly a sifi nerd. In another project of his, calles StarOne, he has an entire album where each song is about a movie on time travel.

Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen (The Tall Hippie Dude). Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist.
Each Ayreon album tells a different story, but all, with the exceptions of Actual Fantasy, The Theory of Everything, and Transitus, take place in the same fictional, science fiction universe; additionally, Lucassen's solo album Lost in the New Real is also set in the Ayreon universe. Ayreon's music is characterized by the use of traditional instruments in rock music mixed with instruments more native to folk and classical music. Lucassen writes the music and the lyrics, sings and plays most of the instruments on all of the Ayreon albums, alongside many guest musicians. His most regular collaborator is drummer Ed Warby.

Ayreon is an amazing artist(arjen lucassen), he invites musicians and vocalists for all his projects. My first encounter with his work was "into the electric castle" back in the late 90's.
It's a great album to listen, all his albums have a storyline, so they are maybe less easy to react to individually as songs.

The cool thing about Ayreon is that all the albums sort of tie into the same story. 'The Source' (the album which this song is from) is technically the start of the story. It's about a race of humans that give control of their planet to a computer (the 'frame) to help solve an environmental catastrophe, but the computer determines that the best course of action is to eliminate the humans. Ten humans and the robot TH-1 escape the planet on the only interstellar ship they have (the 'Starblade') along with the ships crew and head to an ocean planet. The chemist creates a drug ('The Source', aka 'Liquid Eternity') that allows them to evolve into an 'aquatic race'. The drug also makes them basically immortal and allows them to communicate telepathically. The album ends with the survivors (ten plus the ships small crew) living on their new planet ('Planet Y') in relative peace, but in the final track we learn that TH-1 is becoming a new version of the 'frame deep in the ocean. The next album in the timeline, 01011001 ('Y') tells us how machines have now taken over this new planet, and the humans have basically merged with the machines are losing their emotions and sense of time. They now call themselves 'The Forever', since they are essentially ageless drones at this point. We also learn about how they seeded a comet with DNA and sent it to Earth, where it creates human life on our planet. The Forever believe they can live through us telepathically and that they may regain their emotions by doing so. Some of The Forever believe that we need to advance more quickly, and use their telepathy to give us medicine/technology, but this results in us advancing quicker than our morality can cope with. Eventually The Forever realize humanity is doomed and has to decide if they will give them the technology to reverse their past mistakes. Somewhere in the timeline sits the album 'The Electric Castle'From a summary by Arjen: "At the end of the journey those that successfully dealt with their personal demons find out that the voice belongs to an alien named 'Forever of the Stars', a member of an alien race living in a distant galaxy. These aliens created planet Earth and its people as an experiment so they could study, and hopefully one day experience emotions, as they themselves lost feelings eons ago." That's only three albums (less than half!) but I believe those three give you a solid foundation for how the story plays out. Also, I highly recommend any of the Electric Castle Live videos; They are just so fun to watch, plus John de Lancie ('Q' from Star Trek) plays the 'Forever of the Stars' character, which Arjen said he originally based on Q.

The sheer amount of work putting a song like this together with the instruments and then the vocals is incredible. Bringing it together is like a master painter painting his greatest masterpiece and putting it in a museum full of the best paintings from around the world.

Holland has so much talent, but the other singers are freaking awesome too. Live (Amsterdam) this is awesome too. Arjan is a Dutch musician, he played a lot with Floor, also in her first band After Forever. This is not a band, they are projects with other singers and musicians from other bands. The classical instruments are played by Dutch musicians and of course our two Dutch queens Simone and Floor. Thanks!

First one may be purely accidental, but in many ways Ayreon performances may remind ppl of the musical "Hair" from back in the day. You saw Hansi Kursch in your reaction to his band Blind Guardian performing the Bard's Song and Valhalla at Wacken. Lulu and Donna saw Simone Simons in their reaction to her band Epica performing Once Upon A Nightmare. Ayreon is one of many projects by Dutch mastermind Arjen Lucassen. Ayreon albums are progressive rock/metal opera's most of which follow the same story arc about human beings and how we came to be on Earth. Some of his other projects include Star One (songs inspired by Sci fi movies and TV Shows), Supersonic Revolution, Stream of Passion, Gentle Storm, and others. Arjen "discovered" Floor and her sister Irene as teenagers and they have been a big part of Ayreon and Star One albums ever since. Like operas, Ayreon albums have a story that connects all the songs and each singer play a part in the story. Arjen is highly respected within the rock/metal community and being asked by him to sing on one of his albums is a huge honor. Because of the complexity of getting so many performers together (schedules!) live Ayreon shows are rare and only for a few shows.

It is the main project of Arjen Lucassen, the tall guy that played guitar and synthesizers in this video. He has a number of musicians he regularly works with and furthermore he asks the best singers from all around the world to sing on his songs. TIP: Ayreon's live recordings are always great! Basically all recordings from Ayreon Universe and also Ayreon Into the Electric Castle and other Tales are great!

Interesting that you did not get into Ayreon through a song featuring Anneke van Giersberegen, who you already listened to (The Gathering, "Strange Machines"): "Valley of the Queens" from the Ayreon Universe show.
Anneke appears regularily on Ayreon songs für over 25 years now.
Another great project of Arjen and Anneke is The Gentle Storm, I recommend the official videos of "Heart of Amsterdam" and the live version of "The Storm".
And when you are already stuck in this whole family around Arjen, he also worked together with Devin Townsend from Canada who is the absolute mad man of Prog Rock music. His best known songs are "Kingdom" and "Deadhead". Devin often works together with Anneke, my favorite song is "Ih-Ah" from The Retinal Circus show, "Grace" from the same show will blow you away.

So, in addition to being The consummate ring master of juggling amazing world class talent, Arjen (writer, composer and principle performer of this and other "projects") is the world's best practioner in the art of employing the Floor Bomb!
We hope you will enjoy another rabbit hole journey through Arjen's works. For starters, I'll suggest Anything from the live Universe show. A regular progression includes Everybody Dies, Valley of the Queens, Intergalactic Space Crusaders, Merlin's Will, etc. Again, Anything from this show. (but then, there are the 20something actual albums, so Plenty to choose from!).

Um i'm bald 😢 i use to have hair down to my hips but i got tired of it so i cut it short who'd know i would lose my hair lol. But it's all good. Arjen is a creative master and great story teller. Many many members from other bands like to feature in his Music and shows.

This is funny, yesterday I saw you for the first time, and watched some of your reaction videos and I thought about suggesting to react to something from Ayreon and today this popped up in my recommendations.
Arjen produced so many great songs in the Ayreon project, it would be a crime not to listen to some more of them.
I'd recommend The Rainbow Bridge, Liquid Eternity or Loser.

Steep learning curve huh ! 😉 Always think that anyone who was around in the 70s get's the concept of what's going on and the premise behind Ayreon a bit more easily . Think prog rock " concept album " meets rock opera 🤷♂ .
Doubtless there are dozens of comments explaining what ( and who ) is going on here - all I would say is that it's an indication of the immense respect that Arjen is held within the industry that so many real superstars take time out from their everyday careers and bands to participate in these masterpieces , and every so often to take the time to travel from all over the world to take part in the live shows in Tilburg in Holland which always sell out in minutes .
Ayreon is Super, (Floor) / Nightwish is Super, Epica is Super TOP Dutch ! Want to see something totally different ? But also Dutch ? Hardcore from an other level ! Look in to Defqon Festival ! Special are the Endshows (you will be amazed !!!) Ayeon is amazing but every album is highly.concept and story-based.
So if you listen to a lot of the songs in a standalone way they can seem to make little sense. They're all a part of a big story.
