So glad I discovered your channel via Ian. Love westerns. I prefer once upon a time but boy is good the bad and the ugly a great film. Can't wait for 4k of once upon a time. Also, I love how the west was won with its 3 stitched cameras to give a great panoramic view, although it is a bit of a fish bowl type effect. Terrific. Excelsior sir
Yeah, that's a great one! Only seen it once so definitely needs a rewatch before I can contemplate it getting into my Top 25. BTW, I would say The Quick and the Dead is about No.30
@@Bigal1982 Brimstone is fantastic and bleak. Not your usual western but one I found absolutely captivating. You can pick it up pretty cheap these days. Thanks for watching and your nice comments, oh and for subscribing.
A really fascinating list with some surprises too. Thanks. I recently watched The Great Silence and it instantly became one of my top 25 films of the 60’s. Guess what was no.1 😂
I love Hostiles! I thought it was an outstanding and gripping film. As a massive fan of Jean Arthur, I own almost her entire filmography, I just can’t get into Shane. It’s her only film in color and I should love it, but I didn’t. I need to give it another shot. The Gunfighter is so well written and acted. I just recently watched The Last of the Mohicans for the first time and really enjoyed it. Tombstone is absolutely a classic! Val Kilmer gave a legendary performance. Loved this video! Thanks for sharing your list.
Absolutely agree about Val Kilmer. He should have received at least an oscar nomination for that performance! Definitely give Shane another watch. I was the same with Once Upon A Time in the West. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
An excellent video! It's only really since last year that I got quite into Westerns, but it's fast become one of my favourite genres. You've got some great picks there like Hostiles which I just imported the 4K for, as it's one of my favourite modern westerns, The Gunfighter which I thought was almost a exploration on what it means to be famous, (also I'm a huge fan of Millard Mitchell, so really glad you mentioned him!), and Bone Tomahawk which was unforgettable, and one I'd like to re-visit, but you mention the final act and I'm not sure I can face that again! I'm actually exploring more of Sam Peckinpah's films since watching Cross of Iron last year, and I actually have The Wild Bunch on the way to me at the moment so look forward to checking it out. You've mentioned a few others that are on my list to watch like Run, Man Run and The Great Silence and Brimstone, all of which I've been meaning to get to, so glad to hear high praise for them. Surprised not to see any Jimmy Stewart westerns on your list, so just in case you haven't checked them out I'd highly recommend Winchester 73 in particular and also The Naked Spur.
Thanks for those Jimmy Stewart recommendations, they are both on my radar but I've not got around to them yet. Will have to see if I can pick them up. Thanks for watching and your lengthy comments. Much appreciated 👍🏼
Definitely a fun topic, the western genre is such an enjoyable one. Respectable choices although a few I personally wouldn’t categorize as westerns. Lots of other great westerns could get into a top 25
Which ones don't you consider as westerns? The modern ones I'm guessing. There's definitely a lot of great westerns that deserve a top spot, I wanted to put A Few Dollars More in my list but I felt Leone was represented enough and wanted my list to be more varied. Thanks for watching Neil.
@@MuckMan_Movies Sorry Jamie, I missed your reply. Just personally I wouldn’t include Last of the Mohicans, No Country for Old Men nor Hell or High Water. I’m not knocking your choices and I love those movies. Westerns can be interpreted differently. You could for example include Outland which is essential High Noon in space.
Have you seen slow West starring Michael Fassbender. Which obviously with the title is a slow burn. And the original 3:10 to Yuma. Good choices you add
Yeah, seen both of those. Both good too. I really need to revisit 3:10 To Yuma as I can't remember it too much but I've seen a lot of love for it recently. Slow West would definitely get into my Top 50. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@stuartgeorge2324 it's from a Tenacious D song called Wonder Boy. Originally my tag was Muckymuckman from the song but when I started focusing on film content on Instagram I dropped the Mucky and added the Movies.
@@stuartgeorge2324 yeah, it's a great western for sure. Just currently not in my favourites. Probably needs a rewatch tbh. Not seen it in a long time. High Noon was another that just slipped out of my Top 25.

I presume the same as my No.1? Thanks for watching and the kind comments.
Great 25!!! I think Westerns are either you're all in on it or you can barely name 5.
I was definitely all in. I've grown to love the western genre as I've got older. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Great video, enjoyed seeing the range of Westerns, it's now an area I want to get into more. 👍
Thanks Ian. Definitely a film genre I've grown to love the older I've become.

Great picks! I would also recommend you to check out The Salvation (2014) and Keoma (1976)
Yeah, Salvation is a good one. Mads Mikkelsen is my favourite actor working today. I need to see Keoma though. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@MuckMan_Movies Yeah Keoma its a good movie. Worth checking out.
Cheers for shoutout but I haven't done a top 10 westerns mate 😮😅, I might do one sometimes though 👍🏻 great picks mate love a western 👍🏻🎥
Oh, my mistake. It was a Sergio Leone list wasn't it 😂😂😂
