DISLCAIMER: I had to mute and edit the audio during some of the cutscenes due to copywrite. Sadly from this point on I will not be able to include the cut scenes in my TM Black playthrough videos due to copyrighted background music :( Sorry guys!
I remember first playing Junkyard Dog in Lost and I liked him simply because of the tow truck design. He's very much designed to be the beginner character of the game. The one good thing about his special, while everyone has an accessible version of it, you'll also have one that recharges over time. Thinking more about it I think his ending was him going down a murderous vigilant path, kinda like Dollface, where maybe he's going to kill people who are unfaithful to their partners/spouse.
In TM2012 junkyard dog is a great utility truck. In this game, I don't think he's bad. Decent armor, decent handling. Special is meh, but it isn't bad. His story is pretty good. But frankly all the stories in this game are great
Ah, Black, my favorite game in the series and a heavy influence on the type of psychological horror media I'd grow up being into. As the first vehicle in the character select screen, I've always thought of Junkyard Dog as being a great starting, beginner's vehicle. Its good armor and easy yet dynamic and impactful special I feel are very welcoming and simple to learn for newcomers, and Billy's story of heartbreak, betrayal, and murder works well as a first taste for the darkness and seriousness that Black provides. I refer to the way you recover health in this game as "health stations", and I prefer that style of healing in Black and TM '95 rather than simple health pick-ups - because having to drive onto stations to heal adds a lot to the feel of realism and immersion, as opposed to healing by yet another gamey pick-up item and **poof** you're magically, instantly healed again.
I've always thought of shadow sweet tooth and junkyard dog as kind of beginner characters they're well rounded but lean towards something in particular. Plus as a kid I always thought this was Kevin bacon😂
Funny thing is I just finished up twisted metal black yesterday and played through the game with each character and unlocked minion(just getting back into twisted metal and playstation exclusives after years). Normally I just try a driver, see how they function and if I don't like them I move to another but black seemed to have a lot of decent or really great ones to choose from oddly enough although the only one I didn't care for much was darkside because her special is just a ram which like every other driver can do once you know when and how to but I really enjoyed sweet tooth, spectre, Grimm, Axel and brimstone(mostly because it was just funny to whittle an opponent down to low health and use his special on them as they dude yells out "repent!" before being blown up). Played through black so much the menu music got stuck in my head but still enjoyed the game lol
I like the tow truck design of junkyard dog and I like that it carried over to 2012. However 2012 definitely nailed the special. Even if it's just similar to the napalm/gas can mechanic wise, the fact that it's a junker car in 2012 is literally perfect. And this is a bit of a personal fascination I have but how they show signs of each characters mental disorders is very intriguing to me. Junkyard dog's border personality disorder is seen through his anger/drastic mood swings and the fact that they give him anger management therapy via intercom only. And In his intro he mentions that he can still hear the other pilot coming for him for revenge showing signs of his schizophrenia.
Billy going overboard, makes sense if this game takes place in Needles's head and Billy represents the start of Marcus becoming Needles. The text of Billy liking the killing more and more, but his ending states the pilot is the second person he killed is a mistake. I'm just glad it isn't a "revenge is bad, and you should feel bad" troupe that is common in games.
They updated all the cutscene models at some point but they didn't update them for every cutscene. His model on character select is an older version as well.
To only have 2k subs this is criminal. Set up and presentation is top teir. Def. My favorite tm TH-cam channel. Plus your voice is nice to hear and your pretty knowledgeable afterall.
Junkyard Dog's special is like a gas can but it does kore damage and its radius is bigger than that of a gas can. I'm also not a big fan of the vehicle but I love Billy Ray's story. Plus, the only time I have beaten the game on hard without dying any single time it was with junkyard dog.
Junkyard Dog was my first character in TMB and even though I was calculating where the spiked ball was going to land instead of activating it on top of the enemies, he was really fun. Minion's boss fights are actually really easy over time, like you start learning some of his movements. Warhawk though, not a big fan of him. But I understand why people like him.
I played Junkyard Dog myself, his special weapon is all right; but he's not someone I'll play very often. I also only use the repair pads as a last resort.
You're right, idk how I forgot about that! I suppose It's just been so many years since I last had to go through and unlock those characters that I forgot haha
After me and friends watched TM TV, My friend never played any of the TM Games. She tried both TM2 and TMBlack. She preferred TM2 over TMBlack because of the colors and she hates the way older games looked.
You know what I think would be neat is a ranking on the episodes of the Twisted metal T.V show as there are episodes that are better then others, something interesting moving forward also cool about getting a PS3 with Twisted metal 2012 that should be a good playthrough, I raged quite on the Iron maiden fight I just couldn't figure it out and died I don't know how many times but from I remember it wasn't a bad game just hard..
Hey Nick, have you ever noticed in JYD's middle cutscene he actually starts smiling midway through him murdering his wife? Unsure if anyone acknowledged, I forgot who did in the discord but wanted to share that.
I mean, the "if this character's special is just a stronger version of X weapon why would i use it" argument doesn't really make sense since a full blown third of the cast is the same (grim's got a power missile, sweet tooth has the zoomy missiles, roadkill has the reticle, dog has the gas can and spectre's got a homing missile, making it 5 out of 15 total) and they all work very well. Junkyard dog's main issue is just being sorta forgettable, really. Its a new vehicle and the backstory is nice (and his VA did a great performance), but he's kinda forgettable in general.
Literally all of your examples don't have specials that are the same thing as a regular weapon. Grimm's special is a sickle (not a power missile) and does twice the damage of a regular power missile. Sweet Tooth and Roadkill have fire missiles within their special weapon but that they do triple the amount of damage. SO it's not the same thing... Yes, Junkyard dog's special is a spiky ball that works like a gas can napalm (which of course makes it different) but is also only does the same amount of damage. That's my point.
@@VilikisTMA I'm not sure if your reply as to me or Hatsworth, but "If the car's special is like X weapon but better.....why WOULDN'T you use it" is my exact argument. Junkyard dog's special ISN'T better than a regular napalm/gas can. It's the same damage and weapon just with a different skin. It should have done MORE damage than the napalm for it to be considered a "special weapon" in my opinion. I don't mind if they fundamentally do the same thing as a weapon already in the game, but at least make it stronger.
@@VilikisTMA Can't really say for sure, its been a long time since I played it but i'm also pretty sure JYD's special also hits a bigger area, so you can either catch a larger group of enemies at once or at least not waste a shot entirely if you don't get a bullseye.
@@VicariousNickk On the note of Grimm's special weapon I compared it to the power missile just in therms of how it works in general, sans the differences in hitbox/speed. I don't remember 100% sharply but i think Grimm's had way more damage and had a larger hitbox but was slower and had less range compared to the plain missile.
I bet this would never happen because your famous but do you think I would ever be able to 1v1 you on online tm12? Or at least give me some tips to get warthog 😭
I hope some day I can really like this game but for some reason it just isn’t fun..it’s got better storylines and aesthetic but I feel like the vehicles are too fast and the weapons aren’t fun to use..the color palette is too bland..it’s too difficult for some reason and I never have the excitement to play it more

The characters in black had storylines that compelled you to know more and to get the Final Cut scenes

Shadow not that much. You have to be accurate and her special is the only special that can damage yourself.

This guy was ultimately fun to play as till the Warhawk boss

It's nitpicky as hell, but I don't like that at 17:21 the inner monologue of JYD has him using "and" and "&" where's the consistency Billy???
That is hilarious and I have never noticed that before!
I think they were going for J-Dog getting rage addiction due to the contest.
8:53 You kinda have to find the characters in TMSB too, but Black did it way better lol
I call them Healing Stations.
Also Brimstone fell of the map.
A great run with junkyard dog! Wonder if your TM Black tier list will change after these playthroughs.
WAIT is that actually J.S. Gilbert in your intro??

Your videos have inspired me to play TMB. However, I only have a PC. Pretty good one though.
I’m guessing I’ll need a controller.
I'm telling my kids that this is Michael Jackson
I’m here for this 🎉
