One of the most beloved teachers A. Ramon Rivera, a faculty member at the New England Conservatory of Music shares his wisdom on what he considers the most important thing before he starts lessons with a young piano student.
Musicale is starting an exciting year-long series titled “Beginning Piano Playing and Teaching” in January 2023. Contrary to what the title might suggest, this series is designed to benefit all levels of teachers and pianists.
The Beginning Piano Playing and Teaching series will attempt to address some of the most important elements of piano playing and teaching. One key emphasis of the series is how to help students develop solid and healthy musical and technical skills from the beginning. We will introduce key concepts and skills using an extensive list of original repertoire composed by the finest composers. Many of the teaching presentations will address different learning objectives in a holistic fashion. Since good learning in the beginning has long lasting impacts, even though beginning piano skills are the main focus for the series, the series will benefit all levels of teachers and pianists.
