I've always trusted Kadee Quality Products to replace McHenry and X2F Horn-Hook couplers. I even downloaded their Conversion Coupler Chart to find the proper coupler to use on locomotives and rolling stock based on the item's brand name.
Yes, I’ve always had very good luck with the Kadees. They are all I use really. I didn’t even know they had such a thing as conversion charts, that’s pretty cool! Thanks for sharing that Donnie! 👍🏼
you do have a third option too the trash can lol i am looking for an upgrade to my couples be before i get too far into the build hump yard i am looking for a quick disconnect for the cars the person better be on his toes to switch the turn out too
Can you not just push the pin up through the coupling ? although personally I would try to resolve the slop as it wont be sitting at the right height to couple when drooping possibly resulting in trains breaking apart as you refer to when speaking about the railcars
I’ve not run in to any pins that I could push up, but I have seen them. Replacing a worn coupler is a good idea to get that slop out, I should have mentioned it. With a load on them, even droopy couplers tend to pull evenly, but yes if you’re getting uncoupling issues, replacement would be the best bet. Good comments, thank you for sharing!! 👍🏼

Ive always wonderful why people leave those parts on the couplers. I like to cut them and add magnetic airlines
