Hi Dan. I just wanted to express how comforting your videos have been for me. I just had a microdiscectomy on my L4L5 just last Thursday. I'm 32 yrs old so having to go through this at such young age is a crazy already. First day home I seriously thought i was going to die. My family members told me I was so out of it in my head that I was not making sense of the things i was saying lol. Sleeping has been the most difficult due to the fact that theres no comfortable position you can find while laying in bed. Everytime I feel helpless I turn to your videos and i get a sense of relief that it's only a matter of time before I feel nearly 100%. Thank you so much for these very helpful videos.
I had the same surgery November 30th and was feeling great within two weeks. Now I'm back to everything I used to do. Can even run again! Wishing you the best!!
my husband had back surgery a few months ago and watching your video is very enlightening. When he first got out of hospital, he was so determined to do everything himself and frustrated that he couldn't. He never said so, he never said much of anything, so thank you because this gives me some perspective into how he is feeling
As someone that had their back fused together due to horrible scoliosis I can relate. I personally had to stay in the hospital for 9 days and re-learn how to walk as a result from my surgery but going home is a fantastic feeling. Getting the surgery was probably one of the best choices of my life and it's kind of awesome to see someone I consistently watch on youtube go through what is almost the same thing I went through. Hope you feel better soon man and I can't wait to watch your film!
I appreciate this video, because I have suffered from a massive herniated disc in my lower back with the excruciating leg pain since 2009. I did have about a year that was relatively pain free after doing a lot of spinal decompression treatments, but the pain has returned and it is so debilitating! I wish you all the best on a speedy recovery!
Dan you are amazing....very inspirational for someone like me. I had L4 L5 fusion plus microdiscectomy 8 days ago. For the last 5 years I have been going from one doctor to another. I was diagnosed with bursitis and had cortisone shots in both legs with did not help at all. I kept going back to my gp and asking her to send me for other tests which she reluctantly did. The pain & mobility issues kept getting worse & worse to the point where taking even a couple of steps was excruciating..stairs were a nightmare. I just wanted to go on my water float & float away in the ocean and never come back. Just by a fluke my husband mentioned to my neighbour my condition & she went full throttle into helping me. She's a nurse practitioner who is one of the smartest people i've ever met. She told me to get my gp to refer me to Dr. Henry Ahn at St. Mike's hospital here in Toronto....he said no because he only see major spine trauma patients. My neighbour Lisa begged him and he finally agreed. He had me go for an MRI prior to seeing him and within 5 min he knew exactly what my problems were. I cried. I don't think I heard another word he said. That was the good news...the bad news was that I would have to wait 2 years for the surgery. I told him to just put me in a coma until he can operate. I guess I seemed pretty desperate b/c I received a call a couple of months later with a surgery date. The surgery went really well....longer than expected as there was more damage than expected. The recovery in the hospital was horrible. I was given a morphine drip that didn't help at all so I didn't get any sleep. How can I sleep when I have to push a fricken pain pump every 5 min? Makes no sense at all. My night nurse should only work with coma patients as she was horrible. Yesterday I stopped taking the Hydromorphone for pain and now I'm only taking T'3 as needed. Doing stretch exercises 3 x a day. Did you wear a back brace? I have one but one oc said wear it and the other said don't wear it. .....How are you feeling now? It's been a few years for you so I would love to know how you're doing? Sorry for the novel I'm writing to you....lol you seem like the kind of guy I would love to set up with my daughter but you live in L.A. and she's in Toronto....and you probably have someone anyway....take care...
I just went through the same surgery last month except mine was down the left leg. Horrific pain! I feel for you man. I'm glad I had the surgery and I'm sure you will be too. Hang in there.
Had an L5-S1 laminectomy a month ago and everything this guy says is on par with how living with a severely herniated disc. I dealt with it for a year, and worked everyday. If you’re reading this and you’re apprehensive about surgery, DO IT. DO IT. DO IT. one month later life is worth living again. Because before, it wasn’t. God love you all.
Christopher Cecil I'm seriously contemplating surgery for two herniated discs and spinal stenosis may I ask where you went to have your procedure done, please?
Thank you for posting this video! I'm actually having spinal fusion at L4-L5 in a few days. I have a herniated disk, and the fusion will also help with other back problems (scoliosis). I am very proud, stubborn and independent. It is great to hear your perspective after surgery. I think I'll accept more help. I can't wait to not have this excruciating pain.
So happy to hear your surgery was a success. I am wishing you the speediest of recoveries. If you are not 100% by tuesdays big screen premiere, I hold myself personally responsible for not wishing hard enough.
Dan! Having gotten the same surgery two years ago, as soon as you are cleared to do so enroll in a Pilates class in addition to your PT. Just trust me, it helps SO much.
Having had the same surgery, I can tell you it's not a magic bullet. If you don't do the exercises to strengthen your core, you'll be hurting again soon...and forever. Good luck on your recovery. It's a lifetime commitment.
Going through it right now. Spinal fusion surgery 2 levels L4 L5 & S1, 9 days after surgery and still in pain, I have no leg pain and I am glad I did it. I'm on a walker and have begun physical therapy I am looking forward to a full recovery. Yes yes yes you do need help but every day 'i feel a little better.
Had L-3-4-5 laminectomy two weeks ago. In surgery for half an hour and one hour in recovery, then sent home. Like you, Dan, I had immediate relief of excruciating leg cramps and pain right after the surgery. And, like you, the worst part after surgery was surgery pain. Felt like the stitches were ripping through my skin when I sat down or got up or got in and out of bed. I had four doctors over a period of twelve years misdiagnose my leg pain as neuropathy and told there was nothing to alleviate the pain other than medications like Lyrica. Wish I had had the surgery years ago and am ecstatic to finally be pain free.
just got out of hospital today, yesterday had a Micro Discectomy L5-S1 and i’m in massive amount of pain even through the medicine how many days did it take to you start doing things on your own
hey! ah man! 11 something years ago! I think if you watched the follow up videos it'll give you a good heads up but I think I was good solo in a week? I think?
Oh God I wish I had seen this before. Same exacte microdiscectomy (massive herniated disc same vertebrae). I also wanted to express my experiences, though only did it in my blog. I dying to watch the whole series... up to the 1 year see how it went. I'm in month 7 (after) and still having some trouble, hopefully a couple of good physical therapists will help me never go back to "before"(awful, awful, awful, as many of you point out, the excruciating pain and total helplessness). Definitely, you need the help of a mother or whoever is available the first days (weeks) after surgery. Never have I been more grateful to my parents for coming over.
I had a microdiscectomy in November of 2012. L2-3. I could not move my head. Pain was shooting down my left leg. My doctor did a great job and got me back up on my feet. Everything you said is right on the money. I have another ruptured disc on my L4-5. Having another microdiscectomy August 13, 2014. Pain is horrible when standing and even lying down. Unfortunately, the only way to get relief from pain like this is to have this done. Thanks for posting these videos. Even though I had this surgery done before, it was interesting to see how this is performed. Thanks again.
After just having brain surgery about a week ago, I give you huge kudos for coming out the way you have. I'm good now about 10 days on, but yeah the first few days were hard. Look forward to you having a swift and full recovery mate!
I had a fusion done because of a slipped disk in the l4 l5 area I promise it will get better. I had the leg pains and all, but now I can run and play sports it just all just takes a little time. :)
just went thru a similar surgery. had no more leg pain right after surgery. took 6 weeks for back to recover, but then the same day my back felt normal again, the nerve pain in my leg came back. have been doing physical therapy for about 2 to 3 weeks and finally the pain is now going slowly away. a 9 month ordeal for me, it ruined 2024 for me.
Been dealing w/ this for a year & 3 months now. I really wish I would've done this in the beginning when the pain was 24/7 & I couldn't sit, walk, stand, go to the bathroom. Now, through many epidurals & nerve blockers I'm able to sit for long periods but still have trouble standing or walking long distances. I have a very active, labor intensive job & am having trouble doing a full days work & when I lie down or recline my torso leans to the side. Wondering if surgery is still worth it...
First I want to thank u soooooo much for posting these videos, my sister just went through the same exact procedure yesterday morning. She was so struck with fear as was my "worried mother" but after viewing videos of the procedure and watching some testimonials. Things really looked prosperous after viewing ur videos. I appreciate ur honesty and ur positive attitude. Ur freakin awesome \m/ (metal horns) god bless u, u did more then just enough when u posted these videos.
I'm pretty mobile now. Very few things slow me down, but like i said, getting up off the couch (unsupported abdominal flexion) can bring me to my knees sometimes. I'm back full time in the gym just going into beast mode and dealing with the pain. What cause your disc problems? I have moderate scoliosis and was a competitive powerlifter AND spent time in the US Army (infantry). We ruck marched EVERYWHERE.
thanks Dan, mate, I watched your other video pre surgery and it just about got me a wee misty. It was like hearing myself talk about what i was feeling both physically and mentally. Loove your sense of humour thoughout mate. I have a L5/S1 L4/L5 laminoctomy and discectomy. outcome seems positive, and its videos like yours that reassurre me i am doing the right thing, not that theres a choice lol - again, thankyou. if you ever find your way to New Zealand, you have a fried here now. Simon.
I have back pain. Leg is affected by the pinched nerves. My birthday is a day before your movie screening. I'll be watching it. Happy Birthday to us! I hope you get well soon.
Mine is my neck, I have put up with stabbing pain from my neck to my hand for almost a year. My left hand has has two numb fingers and my right hand goes numb if I sleep on my back. Shots and therapy have not helped, so I just saw the best surgeon in my area and hope to have disk replacement surgery in the next couple of weeks. I also am getting the do not do it talks, but I am tired of being in so much pain. I hope my surgery works just as well as yours.
I appreciate your videos . I go in this Thursday for a double discectomy (S1-L5/L5-L4). Pain has been excruciating, all the way from my left back lumbar region, down the leg and all the way through my foot. Did you also have back pain with the leg pain? I'm surviving on pain meds, muscle relaxers and laying on my right side with a body pillow for support. I was glad there were videos up on the topic. Thanks for giving me hope I will be able to walk again without agonizing pain! Prior to the onset I had just barely recovered from a broken ankle! My Mother is here to help with recovery as well as husband, and your video is what encouraged me to ask her to help...
Just had the same surgery back in september. Was doing "fine" after two weeks and walking without a cane. However there is still some pain, the main thing is thinking you're back to normal but you'll never really be 100% again. You can be close though, like 90% but you need to remember to do you're rehab and still take it easy when it comes to carrying heavy things, etc.
Love the info. I just got home from the same surgery about 3 hours ago. It really helped my family understand. Hope you're doing well after a couple of years.
I am 32 yrs old and I have had severe pain shooting down my right leg. It's been debilitating. I could hardly walk, sit, stand, or lie down. I felt with this for over a year. In that year I did chiropractor, personal training, physical therapy, I bought an inversion table which I do not recommend, I also had three epidurals and a lot of pain killers. I use a walker to get anywhere and riding in cars is the worst. About a week ago I made an appt with a neurosurgeon and I finally just went to meet him about three days ago. I was in his office for 15mins and I was crying , shaking and completely stuck paralyzed with pain. He looked at my MRI and said you need surgery you have a large herniated disc in the L4/L5 S1 . He said go straight to the hospital and I will do it tonight or tomorrow but you can't go on in this pain. He said I was to have a microdiscectomy and laminectomy . I had surgery the following morning and he said that he ended up removing the whole disc because it was much larger than he thought. I am in the hospital right now on day three of recovery and it sucks! I am able to walk slowly with my walker and I have now started using the bathroom on my own instead of bed pans gross! My leg pain is pretty much gone but when I lean on my right side to get up or sit I can feel an annoying pain still and my right foot is tingly. The doctor said I have no nerve damage so that's good. I'm being discharged today since I was able to get my back brace on and walk 150 ft. I am scared to go home because of the help is not going to be the same as here at the hospital . Can you give insight on dressing your self , how it was to shower , and going to the bathroom. I am a female so I'm sure that it was much easier for you. I am a dental hygiene student and I'm missing some of my classes right now and I'm in my last semester before I grad if I don't finish then my grad is pushed way back and not what I want. Can you tell me when you felt your best and if you think I'll be feeling good enough to go back after two weeks?
I been dealing with sciatic pain down my right leg for the past 4 years and tried everything from messages to epidural injections. Although my herniation is at the L5/S1 vertebra, the constant pain down my right leg (mainly hamstring area) could be similar to what you had to deal with. I'm finally schedule for surgery next week and as weird as it sounds I'm excited. I'm a die hard soccer fan and haven't been able to play. Hopefully in 6 months I can be back on the field with no pain. Glad to see you doing better and thanks for the videos
Thank you for posting your videos...I found them recently and appreciate all the info on the recovery process and love your sense of humor. I have a herniated l5 s1 disc for a little over 2 years now. Did chiro, massage, physical therapy, facet joint injections, epidurals, rfa on 2 nerves, tens unit, meds, the works. I am finally going to have this same surgery done next week on Jan 7th 2014 and couldnt be more excited. My right leg has terrible pain and my foot goes numb after standing for more than 10 mins. I'm definitely looking forward to some relief.
Great comment. I just had a lumber fusion. I'm 10 days post-surgery. i wanted to do this and post it, but i just wasn't up to it. This is actually the first time since my surgery that I've been on the computer.
Just had my 5th after 3 micros and a laminectomy. Fused S1.L5,L4. A microdesctomy is like getting a cavity filled in comparison. And I know just going into your back anywhere drops you to Captain Nothing. I've had it for 9 years. I hope this is all you have. I'm on day 8. Had a friend help me after day 1 at home (2 days after surgery) where they went through my front and back side (I'm 52 years old) and I've been on my own since last week. 8 inch scar on front and 4 inch on back with rods inserted.
I might be getting surgery on my arm due to nerve damage and watching this made me feel brave about it. This'll be the first operation I'll have and I was terrified.
Hi, I can sympathise with you. I had a full back operation (with the metal rods and screws) and I wish for you to get better. It will get better, you will gain more mobility as time goes on :)
Thanks for this video. I have a massive herniated disc between L5 and S1 that is slamming into the nerves running down my left leg. I am going for one more MRI and an EMG to see the extent of the nerve damage and then i'll have a set date for surgery. I honestly cannot wait. I will be 35 next month and I feel so degraded. I was a Policeman for 8 years and I was so use to helping other people and always being independent and self reliant and now my wife has to help me put my pants on and put my shoes on and take them off for me and I can't do anything that I use to do, all the burden is on her. I can hardly walk or sit. Thankfully she is a wonderful woman and very supportive. I just want my life back. Thanks again for this video and I hope you are doing well.
Hi Scott, Yes I did, I had it December 15 and I feel great! I start PT on Monday and will be returning to work in February. The surgery itself and the recovery has been nowhere near as bad as the pain I was in originally! I hope you are doing well.
Oh and you were right the first 3 days sucked but was doable. It was all from the slice in the back though. As soon as I woke up the leg pain was gone. Thank god, I was about to rip off my own leg!
Why is he sitting up after the op? I had mine done and I was pain free after the operation until now. I stayed on my back most of the time without sitting up. Day 1 pee in bed pan. Day two physio taught me how to get in and out of bed. Day 3 just walked but stayed in bed most of the time. Day 4 Did more walking in the room. I stayed 7 days to make sure I fully recovered and could do things on my own. No pain after the operation was done. I had minimal pain when I woke up but after that none. The doc gave me pain killers and they worked really well. Relative to the pain you feel from the slip disc the wound pain was nothing.
Hey Dan, how've you gone with the return to football? Looks like i'll have to do this in a few weeks and wanted to know how your return to sport has been given that sport is a big part of my life. Thanks for the vid.
As i said before, i still have sciatica and restless leg syndrome. The neurosurgeon said it could go away in a day or 6 months. My B.S. is in Human Exercise Physiology so i am familiar with human anatomy and know just how long it takes for the central nervous system to heal.
Hey guys got the exact same surgery about 2 months ago.. I can't picture myself not getting it. It has helped so much. It's been a long road and I'm still not 100% yet but I'm getting there, slowly but surely. I have also made videos to help anyone out in their recoveries also. Take care and good luck everyone
Dan sunday jan 4 i got that procedure done on L5. A bulging piece of disc almost 3 cm wide was removed. Im almost on my next day and aside from the constipation specially from the pinch nerve then the morphine i feel no pain. I am only experiencing numbness on my left foot due to the block. I've been laying on my back all day. The successful surgery started at around 10am and i was out of anastisia about 230 pm. More 2morrow
so, it's been about two years, how are you feeling now since the operation? are you still suffering from issues? i am thinking about getting it done but i'm a little scared....
just had a spinal laminectomy L4 & L5 , in my case the surgeon did not dissect the disc, but they did remove the arthritic area in the lamina. I'm now in day four and I'm still very sore in my back. I don't care for the Oxy codon, It gives me severe headaches and nausea.
I'm not writing this to scare anyone! had my surgery 3 weeks ago, the doctors now are saying I had a stroke during surgery, and lost my vision in my left eye.just recently I have excepted this trade off, the loss of vision for no more pain..good luck to all...from fla..
Had an L5/S1 Discectomy in Nov 2012 and Just now able to job without my brace. I still have some nerve pain, but it seems to be slowly going away. My only pain is around the incision site. I'll feel it when i get up off the couch or soemthign and may end up hitting the ground for fear of damaging it further by standing up
Hi, Dan. I wish you a get well. I have had two microdicsectomys, then an L1 to S1 fusion with rods and screws, then a spinal cord stimulator put in. I absolutly understand what you are going through. My only thoughts to you right now is listen to what they tell you and follow everything to a tea, DO NOT PUSH IT even if you feel like you can please. You heal on the outside first but inside takes longer...... I know what it is to try and do everything you can to get rid of that back pain.
drop foot sucks. I have a fractured vertebra going on 10 years. when my back goes out I can't even scoot across my bed without my body locking up in pain. waiting as long as I can for my back fusion surgery.
tryintosurvive88 I waited 5 yrs, spent time bent at waist looking at ground, unable to stand up straight usually about 10 or may more days? Took me out of the gym along with other effects that were painful! My different meds were changed taking out any pain relief prior to this, my 2nd back surgery this year. I don? t understand why? Plus my Dad died right before Nov 25th, Thanksgiving! And I hurt losing him STILL, not yet a month ago I think? I feel I'm going crazy with no end in sight! Sorry to complain! Everyone has it worse and I complain about me?
Quick? How was it going #2 after your surgery? I’m having 3 disc bulges removed and I’m just worried that sitting on the toilet and pushing while going #2 will hurt my back. Did you have any issues going #2 right after your surgery?
Thank you for this series!!! I have a "Right Lumbar Discectomy" scheudled in 6 days. I figured I'd be able to just Bear Up when I'm home, but now I think I'll ask a friend to come by and back-sit me for a day or two. The good thing? Your vids are helping me be less freaked, while also letting me know to take this seriously. Hope all's well now for you!
Thank you for sharing your experience. It helps me get an idea of what I should expect, since I am having surgery on 6/6/13. I am very nervous however, I rather experience the pain of the surgery than experience the pain that I am currently experiencing for the rest of my life. I look forward to a full recovery or at least the pain and numbness on my leg to go away.
Your good health is most precious and so I hope by this experience, you've learned how truly valuable it is. Most importantly, guard it well and learn how to progress it :)
I'm having this done on 6/14 which is in about 5 days. I've been going through this since January of this year, just 3 days after my wedding. It's been horrible! Not quite the way I wanted to start our new life, but has really tested the vows we made to each other. I have been through it all, the injections nerve burn and nothing so I've finally decided I've had enough and I'm hoping the pain is coming to an end and my life can begin again. I can barely move or walk anymore and have no life. :(
Frankly speaking...mine PLIF L4,L5&S1...alone...all you need is be brave...be creative to handle situation like this although it's really HURTS like hell..trust yourself...
How are you feeling now? i also had a close call with back surgery a herniated disk but it wasn't as bad as yours. Hope you get your life back think postive!
What were your symptoms ? I never have pain going down my legs. But, i do have constant pain in my back & neck. Thats all day everyday. And people are constantly telling me im not standing up straight. Im even getting pain in my chest around the whole shoulder area too. Did u ever feel that ?
***** If i only have pain in my lower back, and now where else, and the pain increases when i bend forward. I feel no pain when i sleep, but other times, i'll have the back pain. It's been like this for 2 weeks, could i have a herniated disc?
I am day 3 post op fusion disk replacement bones also deteriorating and can't get ANY PAIN MEDS. I am in more pain then I can ever remember! Stuck in bed crying and feel no one gives a shit? It's late Monday, told pain doc can see me Thurs afternoon? I declined will be laying on back in snow till I freeze to death! Oh forgot, 1st back surgery past March 2016, back broke 3 xs, now broke 2xs, ending spine breaks don't touch? No idea what to do but cry from pain? I'm not old either, but fucked, suicidal cuz no help with pain! Billings, Montana Kerri Dead Morris
Wow very inspiring. In 2004 I was in incredible pain. I had days where I was almost unable to walk. After 9 MRIs the doctors finally discovered the cause. The vertebrae at T5, T6, & T7 had softened on one side causing my spine to curve & put pressure on the disk and nerves. I have not had surgery yet, The pain hasn't been at the levels it was in 2004 but it is slowly on the rise again. I'm about to talk to my doctor & have a follow up MRI to see if things have changed & plan the next step.
I had my spinal cord decompression 6 weeks ago, Thoracic area T2 to T6. So I would like to know for how long the pain could persist, by the way I have been off pain killers 2weeks ago and try to manage that with strong mind and cold compress, or cold hands.... I had also major improvement in walking, sitting, I can cook, lift light things from floor... I like your video, you are very funny... U helped me a lot to understand few things....
For all who are planning to have this surgery just don't be afraid. Yes the surgery hurts but just for a limited time. It's really a simple operation and you can stand up right after surgery
I just had surgery due to having empayema. It's a long story but after 2 different hospital visit and traveling once I got back I went to another hospital and immediately found the problem And gave me surgery and told me if I didn't take care of this in a few months I would have died. I also had mrsa.... but the painkillers were fenominal.
is there any chance of pain and numbness to go away without surgery? its 2 months now with the pain and still waiting trying to avoid surgery, although its done by laser now without any back opening. does physiotherapy help before surgery ?
I also had the same issue as you labznyang, I was put on bed rest the same day my MRI results came back ( large herniation L4/L5). The pain in my left leg was unbearable, sharp pain shooting down my left leg and constant throbbing, couldn't sleep, sit or walk. After 4 weeks I finally was able to get the spine surgeons appointment for surgery. the recovery is just as Dan is saying and yes any help you can get please accept it..you will need it. When I woke up from my surgery I still had pain in my left leg..this continued till 2.5 weeks, as the herniation was very bad. I m now 25 days past surgery and my leg pain is gone. I have not felt any back pain since the surgery either. I would advice you to get the surgery done and over with if it was presented as an option for you. Hope your recover soon labznyang.
I had the same exact thing done as you on 5/13/2015. Only diff. is that I had it on L3/L4-Left Side And also L4/L5-Right Side. It's about (from what I can see back there) a 5 to 6 inch scar. Huh... the price of progress eah! The scar don't bother me one bit. Hell, that may even turn on the chicks! Glass half full and what not. ;) What bothers me is, I'm still in pain. Now, for you folks out there who are about to get this done, DO IT! I saw my surgeon to get the staples out ten days after and couldn't thank that man enough. He got rid of that big ball of pain that was on the left side of my lower back and also the nasty pain that shot down into my left ass cheek. And also the numbness in my left foot. My right leg is still about 90% numb from the knee down. and I have pain every day in the "Other Areas". I guess I had my hopes set to high. They did tell me that I would still have some pain from the arthritis and some other disk compression I have going on down there. I guess it's like they say.. *"Rome wasn't built in a day"* :-)
Honestly buddy I'm worried and i hate surgery but i hate this pain even more. It's been a few months since your surgery so how do you honestly feel? Is it worth it? Please reply when possible with any comments that may help me thanks heaps and wishing you a quick recovery. P.S I WOULD NOT WISH THIS PAIN ON ANYONE THAT WISHIES ME DEAD!!!!!!!!
Hey dan, can you walk now without getting pain or a electric shock wave on your right foot? Bcause we are the same situation, is your back and leg is better now like 100% pain free? How much do it cost for your surgery. Im from philippines, thanks for the video. You inspire me a lot
Jason Caballero Hey! no pain or electric shocks or anything like that. Sometimes when the weather is bad, it acts up OR if I'm sitting with bad posture for a while, yeah it will act up, but is totally manageable
my husband is going to have the operation tomorrow and were very worry because he in Saudi and the operation will be there and we are here in the Philippines with my 3 kids, were worry..and you were saying that it very painful the first day? he said that he will be in the hospital for 2 days after the operation,,,how many days did you stay in the hospital?
im having my surgery tomorrow what i want to know is was the leg pain worse then the surgery or was the pain from surgery worse, im scared about how im going to be feeling after
Hi Dan. I just wanted to express how comforting your videos have been for me. I just had a microdiscectomy on my L4L5 just last Thursday. I'm 32 yrs old so having to go through this at such young age is a crazy already. First day home I seriously thought i was going to die. Everytime I feel helpless I turn to your videos and i get a sense of relief that it's only a matter of time before I feel nearly 100%. Thank you so much for these very helpful videos.
I'm 28 and had this surgery done in the 19th January 2023,L4L5 like you and Dan.
I had the same surgery November 30th and was feeling great within two weeks. Now I'm back to everything I used to do. Can even run again! Wishing you the best!!
You started back with running 2 weeks after a Microdiscectomy ?
my husband had back surgery a few months ago and watching your video is very enlightening.
2 years of waiting to see the back specialist. ..finally got in now on waiting list for surgery ..thanks for your post
I just went through the same surgery last month except mine was down the left leg. Horrific pain! I feel for you man. I'm glad I had the surgery and I'm sure you will be too. Hang in there.
How do you feel now
Had an L5-S1 laminectomy a month ago and everything this guy says is on par with how living with a severely herniated disc.
I think?
Awesome news man! Glad to hear things are on the right path.
Just had my surgery and I feel like a new man, the soreness that I have from the surgery is nothing compared to the pain that I had.
So great to hear you're feeling better already! Hope it just keeps getting better the next few weeks :)
I had a fusion done because of a slipped disk in the l4 l5 area I promise it will get better. I had the leg pains and all, but now I can run and play sports it just all just takes a little time. :)
I do agree. And the neat thing you feel is that the pains are "new pains/surgery pain versus the old pain you were use to feeling 24/7,
just went thru a similar surgery. had no more leg pain right after surgery. took 6 weeks for back to recover, but then the same day my back felt normal again, the nerve pain in my leg came back.
have been doing physical therapy for about 2 to 3 weeks and finally the pain is now going slowly away. a 9 month ordeal for me, it ruined 2024 for me.
Just had it done yesterday. The leg pain is pretty much non existent but he is right the surgery pain is super intense. Hoping for a solid recovery.
Zach Grieshop May I ask how your recovery has gone thus far?
We're all rooting for you man! Stay strong!
hope you feel better soon! can't even imagine the pain you've been going thru
i wish you a speedy recovery and a long lasting good result!
You might not believe it works, but I'll be praying for ya. Let's hope for an epicly quick recovery. God bless.
thanks Dan, mate, I watched your other video pre surgery and it just about got me a wee misty. Simon.
I am now at the point where surgery is recommended. Pain everyday. So nervous but I will go through your videos
Goin in for the same thing this Friday... L5-S1... So glad to know the leg pain goes away instantly... It's MISERABLE!
Wow nice I will have back surgery next week in L1&L2
Best of luck recovering sir.
You got all the time in the world now to recover 100%. 1 day ata time & you'll be there before you know it Dan dancing at Vidcon!
Sorry to hear! hope you feel better soon man!
Best of luck man!
Hope you get better soon
Relative to the pain you feel from the slip disc the wound pain was nothing.
my left leg is numb, it has been 15years since my fusion surgery. Dr. said give it a year to go away. I am still waiting.
Cool last name I'm Michael Angeli and there is a Dr. I went to Stevan Angeli lol
Glad you made it out alright. Good luck in your recovery man.
Big Dan the man!
THANK YOU MAN, FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT!
Getting L-4 & L-5 done 5/29/13 So scared dude!!!
However I see the out come, so thank you Dan!
Kristen Love Why doesn't this guy respond to any of the comments,he might as well Not even put up the video.
just had a spinal laminectomy L4 & L5 , in my case the surgeon did not dissect the disc, but they did remove the arthritic area in the lamina.
So sorry to hear about your vision.
Glad ur feeling better. I had a get a spinal fusion about 7 years ago and I remember being in agony and having to constantly take painkillers.
Sorry you're hurting. Glad you have family and friends to help you out.
Frankly speaking...mine PLIF L4,L5&S1...alone...all you need is be brave...be creative to handle situation like this although it's really HURTS like hell..trust yourself...
thankyou, sincerely, i live a life of torment at the moment due to this, and have my op next thursday, again, thank you
How are you feeling now? i also had a close call with back surgery a herniated disk but it wasn't as bad as yours. Hope you get your life back think postive!
What were your symptoms ? I never have pain going down my legs. But, i do have constant pain in my back & neck. Thats all day everyday. And people are constantly telling me im not standing up straight. Im even getting pain in my chest around the whole shoulder area too. Did u ever feel that ?
yes... you have a herniated disc my friend.
***** If i only have pain in my lower back, and now where else, and the pain increases when i bend forward. I feel no pain when i sleep, but other times, i'll have the back pain. It's been like this for 2 weeks, could i have a herniated disc?
Hope you feel better soon!
Billings, Montana Kerri Dead Morris
please seek help! it has to get better, find another doctor. asap. good luck. chin up. :)
good luck on your recovery bro.
I wish for a speedy recovery Dan :3
I'm getting my back surgery in 7 days and I'm super worried how long were you in the hospital.
cruizin thru its a outpatient procedure !
Physiotherapy never helps in spine. Only operation is the way
i have very large herniated disc too and it happen 5 weeks ago,im wondering how long have you had the herniated disc before surgery?
oh YEARSSSSS! I thought it was just... life and getting older, but yeah, it clearly wasn't, hah... so yeah, it was years of pain
I have the same L4/L5 herniation and will likely have this operation done as well. How did your injury happen?

Hope you are starting to feel better! I also have a pinched nerve issue in my back. It isn't constant, at this point. I know the pain though!
