Josh the level of thought and quality that goes into your videos is unmatched. Your approach to YT videos is pretty unique and I always find myself having a blast watching them. Keep doing you man!!
Thanks Tanner! I wanted to capture the spirit of what that day in the garage with Bobby was like and I think I pulled it off. Really glad you enjoyed it.
I love that you show the struggles along the way. Anyone who's ever wrenched on their own stuff knows exactly what you're going through, and at the end of the day, all you can do is laugh it off and press on.
Thanks buddy! I would rather try to show it as it really happened than sugarcoat it and make it look like I had an easy time. Hopefully this approach inspires other people to get out of their comfort zone a little bit and try things that seem beyond their ability.
i thought the bald spot talk was going to segway to a Keeps ad but it didnt
Obviously I didn't think of that but that's hilarious. Seems like every big automotive youtuber does the trifecta - keeps, that green milkshake vitamin supplement stuff, and a cheap bluetooth speaker. I've got a long way to go.
Being an older dumbass myself, I can appreciate watching a couple wrench on a vette. Don’t forget your Compuware decals.
Well, My Corvette has been sitting on jackstands for over a month now from me not wanting to finish what i started, but your videos have motivated me to get back at it when i wake up.
Wish I had a friend like yours I waste so much time looking things up on the internet
It didn’t really make it into the video but there are two sets of motor mount holes in the front cradle for some reason. Instead of looking up the one to use, Bobby was like, “let’s just measure it, then we’ll know for sure.” You can see it during the motor mount section.
Where have you been. You’re hilarious, and so my speed. Intelligence level 1000 and also cracking jokes. Glad I stumbled onto your project. This will blow up in no time
@@JoshVanVeld 🤙 save that emoji. We will be shaking hands irl
Before we both know it 😎
Absolutely love seeing this build. Happy to hear more Dr. Bobby and you interact more as well!
I’m in the middle of swapping my LS7 back in my ‘07 right now. I feel your pain as far as taking longer than planned.
😂 the description of the convoluted way you have to like a video on a TV got me good. LOL
You guys are great! This project isn’t work, it’s hangin out, jokin around and doing something you love.
Lookin forward to the next one!
It will all be so satisfying when you fire that beast up. Keep going. You got this.
Having recently done this job (Texas Speed shortblock w/ PRC heads), I was waiting for when you would find out what a PITA the slave cylinder is. Here's a tip: connect the hydraulic line from the slave cylinder to the clutch master cylinder before you put the engine in the car. I am loving this series!
I stuck my hand up between the bell housing and the chassis and installed a Katech remote bleeder on my ZR1 without removing anything. Used a friends lift. 9 mm wrench and lots of swear words. Everything about this chassis doesn’t seem well thought out.
I watch from my tv but after that joke I said alright alright I’ll sub LOL
Happy to see the great Dr Bobby again.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
So good to see you getting closer to the finish line!
Seeing the progress you have made is incredible. You and Dr. Bobby make a heck of a team. Will be waiting on pins and needles for the next episode.
im 5 corvettes in and even to this day my yellow C6 is my favorite from rebuilding the entire thing thanks to that legendary valve drop. That got me in touch with Vengeance Racing and from there every corvette that was over 500hp went to their shop thanks to the hope and pray rebuild adventure i went on like a car fiend lol. But makes me feel nice using all the shortcuts on my c7z and c8z lol.
Unless you want to intentionally go through a huge struggle for the sake of learning / proving something to yourself… leaving it to the professionals is the right move!
So proud of you boys! No one has this kind of tenacity!
Awesome video Josh and Dr. Bobby!
Not sure why your subs are so low because your videos are entertaining and informative.
You deserve so many more subs man. The garage series has been so entertaining. Love the series. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing
I try not to fixate on subs too much. The way TH-cam works these days they try to let the algorithm suggest videos you'll like on your home page and the subscription feed is kind of buried. That said, someday I would really love to get one of those plaques they give out. Only 92,228 to go!
Josh and Bobby are the best, each of you remind of me of "Big and Little Ennis" from Smokey and the Bandit. And Josh your wife was correct about watching the television, so I subscribed. Well, I am watching after the 5/17th, i hope to see the installed engine soon.❤😊
Haha thank you! Bobby and I need matching suits as soon as we hit the big time 🤣
I wish you all the speed and luck in the world, get her back together!
Another great episode Josh! Was great to see Bobby back and you’ll thank him for the persuasion to shave off the hair. I did it 8 years ago and have loved every minute of it 🤛
The worst combo is being both of those people in one 😢 I'm the "I wanna get it done ASAP ADD guy, but I also wanna be extremely particular and follow every procedure to a T"
HELP
Honestly I feel that way too. Bobby lets me focus on one role since he has the other one covered.
Bobby caught a stray there
Time capsule indeed! We can only hope that our children look back at these videos and understand how much it meant to us to have their little hands help out in something we are so passionate about, if only for one click of the torque wrench.
I run polyurethane mounts on my Escalade. Love them!
i dont usually comment on youtube but i like your videos. its cool to watch you build the engine step by step in a fun way.
Fantastic work. Working on a car never goes to plan ( and unfortunately gotta plan bonus time for that). But progress is progress nonetheless!
That’s the way it goes, but glad to see you are making some progress.
Loving your videos, great work 👍🏼
Lmfao i laughed soo hard towards the end ... I can't wait to see more vids of you guys working on this beast of a car
The final comments bleeped out had me laughing. Thanks again for bringing us along for the ride. :)
Love this dude. Thanks for putting out this content. Broke my heart to see the motor let go that day but what a great example of turning a nightmare into something positive. Well done sir!
You don't have to drop the rear sub frame on install, Just have to angle it a bit down and go slow.
Good luck Josh!
I just found this channel and love it even though I'm a Ford guy. I like your tone and demeanor, etc. Cool channel, my brother. Rock on, brother
I'm loving this build. It's way cool to see your trials and tribulations along the way.
Josh, I've been Subbed for awhile but I like watching your videos in the garage on the TV
Highly recommend using HNBR o-rings where possible, they tend to last longer, and swell rather than contract like traditional NBR o-rings. They're often green, but come in different colors.
I see the mount install, but I use factory rubber mounts with polyeurethane inserts inside them. They work wonderfully, with no shake at idle, and no movement of the shifter while moving (FWD transaxle mount included).
Keep it going!!!
nice job with these videos. get the remote bleeder clutch line while you have it all out.
Freakin awesome video! Great seeing you and Dr. Bobby doing the work.
lol “isn’t it some bullsh1t that…” Direct quote from LOTR, and so applicable to working on cars 😂🤦🏻♂️🏎️
wish you good luck when your guys put the engine in the car tomorrow.
love the progress Josh :) meanwhile my whole drive train is dissassembled, ill be ordering a short block in june :)
Keep it up!!!
It sounds like great things are coming your way, Josh! Keep hustling and you'll be celebrating your successes in no time :)
I love watching your videos. I’m glad you’re not as good at building engines as you are making videos, otherwise we wouldn’t have these awesome videos. Keep up the great work, and thank you for the content! Best of luck
Great videos. Nice clutch. I think I need one for my project. $$$.
Seems like Monster makes a good product. We also called them a couple times with questions and they were very responsive and helpful.
Love the build and the contra reference was good
With its torque tube drivetrain, the stock C6 motor mounts are fine. The engine is not forced to resist rotating about its crankshaft (or trans output shaft) since the engine is directly coupled to the differential. The twisting forces on the motor mounts in a front engine vehicle with a conventional driveshaft are orders of magnitude greather than those on C5-C7 Corvette motor mounts.
Good job I am really enjoying this David
I was like, "Oh awesome, Helen is one of my 6 female viewers!" And then I realized you're using you're wife's account 😅 Thanks David!
I watch a LOT of TH-cam and your channel is my favorite
Yeah but dude you have a yellow corvette as your profile picture. Your bias is obvious 🤣🤣🤣 But seriously I appreciate that! 🤜🤛
@@JoshVanVeld the yellow Z06’s are the fastest ones. Our cars share almost the exact same mods
Another great video. Dr. Bobby is a star!
Please be careful about inflating his ego or he's going to start asking for a dressing room with a dish of green peanut M&Ms. 🤣 (But I agree, he's absolutely a star!)
Hey….my name is Trent and i have a cts-v in my fleet as well…….i really need to meet this Trent dude!!!
Heck yeah!!! :-D!!! Keep it up!!!! You're doing a fantastic job and these are the roadblocks we all encounter!
@@JoshVanVeld My name is in reference to a children's book (google Stinky Cheese Man) I had when I was a little kid! lol it always made me laugh.
Love the way you’ve portrayed everything with the build so far. One thing I would like to pass onto you from my build with my 416 stroker LS3 is the crank position sensor. I’ve had issues with them going out as I’m on my third one within 6,000 miles of my build. Long story short, put a new AC Delco crank position sensor so you don’t get any codes after you get the car put together.
Like always… 11/10!
I dont understand why you do not have more subs. Love your channel..
It’s entirely possible that you and I and everyone else watching are just total weirdos. I’m ok with that.
one of my favorite series on youtube. im going through the same thing for my c6z. dart shp pro 427 and a gforce 4 speed and a new torque tube. lots of work and florida is too hot lol
I grew up in FL, would not want to be doing this job there without AC! Hope it goes smoothly 🤝
Imagine if you bought a tall-deck block....
It hurts me so badly watching you use an impact to tighten bolts into an aluminum block. Literal chills down my spine. lol
Keep up the good work. I’m really interested in those motor mounts. I’ve got a rather large cam in my LS7 that makes the entire car shake. I wonder how much dampening it would provide me.
Bobby made me do it! Yeah I’d be curious how the mounts would do against a rowdy cam. Probably not any better than factory mounts would be my guess.
I’m gathering parts for a high HP motor for my Solstice. Really enjoy watching the build. Giving me the push to tackle mine
@@JoshVanVeld mine is a GXP with 27k. Will be used mostly for autocross. Not the best car for it but fun nonetheless
ADD and pervert is a wild combination.
Love you bobby
I can’t wait once it’s done.
Also you inspired me to go with a c7 grand sport lol. 😂
Why not just get a built LS3? Because... LS7. No further explanation necessary. I ended up with a Monster triple S for half price (fall 2023 Carlisle) so I installed that when I did my Maggie Heartbeat blower install. It's a very nice clutch, stock pedal effort, yery good street manners, and allows for 3rd gear burnouts if desired. The double S would have been plenty for my build, but the universe had different plans for me. That clutch will serve you well Josh.
You got me at Contra! Take my Sub! 😂
You should check lifter preload anyways with an adjustable pushrod, most hydraulic lifters live/perform best at mid
Travel in my experience. So oil soaking its here not there. But cosmoline has iron in it, and won’t provide any lubrication to the lifter bores it’s simply to prevent rust.
At the 15 min mark and thought the line about subscribing on ur tv was so funny tht i subscribed then subsequently grabbed my phone to leave this comment 😂
Here I am looking at a C6 Z, and reading all the BaT sellers saying the valve issue is overhyped. I plan to track my future Z06 3-4 times, so I figure I’m going to proactively take care of the heads before putting any abusive miles on it.
Yeah if I had it to do over again I would obviously take it more seriously and do the head fix first instead of putting it off.
Also keep in mind that the motor was completely stock with 56K miles. And even though I took it to the track several times, I probably did a grand total of maybe 20 laps. So the car isn’t the stereotypical dropped valve case where it’s been ridden hard and put away wet 😁
@@JoshVanVeld I have a 2023 GR86 I’ve tracked about 30 times and it’s wonderful, so the future Z would be a “once every now and then” track car. The running costs on any high hp car are too rich for my blood and I definitely don’t want to drop a valve! FYI, I’ve subbed and whenever I get my Z, I’ll add it to my channel.
also a good story has a LS7 in it esp. one with lighter internals and fixed heads and KATECH oil pump /wink /wink
Alright alright you guilted me into subscribing. But in all seriousness it’s great content that I really appreciate 👍
Been wanting to buy a c5 z06 for some time, and learn my way around it. Coming from never even having changed a tire. 😅 hopefully next summer. We'll see. My budget is too small to blow up a c6 z06 and live to see another day lol
I loved my C5Z and only sold it because I knew I wasn't a good enough driver to keep up with it so I went to a Miata for a while. I think it's smart to be realistic about your budget.
I installed that same clutch in my LS3 powered C5. The lightened flywheel caused some issues with the idle, that were caused by the flywheel, requiring some programming changes. Other than that is was much nicer than the stock ZO6 clutch.
I mean have you ever seen Dr Bobby and Dr Doom in the same place at the same time...?
Where can I find a Bobby? I need a trusty sidekick that can guide me through the perils of my next dozen projects.
Yeah I had a shop put in a clutch for me and they didn’t put lock tight on and I found this out down the road from the bolts backing their way out
You don't know how bad I was anticipating a new episode 😅
I hope it was a satisfactory entry in the series! The next couple are going to be a lot of fun.
Respect ur gangster
Welcome to the bald club Josh. 😅
Happy to be here! Although several bald people were quick to point out that a buzz cut isn’t bald.
You are going to scream like a kid when she starts up.....gonna be awesome.
You might be able to lay/bungie your headers in place before lowering in the engine, instead of threading them in later. I did that before putting my heads back in place, but the whole engine placement is probably less forgiving.
Time to cut an access panel under your console, because track car?
That's a great tip! Honestly I don't want Goldie to go full track car. Part of the budget GT3 mentality is it needs to be a great street car that can also turn in fast laps on the track. I don't want to ruin for the street, which is a fine line to walk.
Dang your fast 😢😅
One thing you'd probably want to do with that slave cylinder is upgrade the release bearing support to a monster or tick billet one! While everything is out of course. They're knownto melt/get torn up leading to you losing your clutch pedal and needing a flatbed to get the car around 😂
Love the humility and willingness to tackle this project. Wish more folks would be more open and vulnerable while on TH-cam. Keeping it real. Enjoy the journey. Thanks for sharing.
