    i wear my smooth ostrich boots everyday from work to desserts to mountains , in rain, snow, sand, dirt , mud .. ive worn them everyday for going on 3 years and ive been surprised how tough the type of leather is. they look almost brand new. i do condition them a lot more than i probably should but with all the water, dirt and changes to temperature i go through they dry out real fast. for hiking in areas with lots of rocks, i would recommend going to a cobbler and getting a rubber sole vs the leather because you can literally feel like every single rock you step on

      Ostrich has the strongest tactile strength , I had a pair of Tony Lama smooth ostrich.. that had been soaking wet many times, through mud, snow, dirt, dragged one concrete, gravel , through brush … and after 6 years got a little tear .. ostrich by far the best skin and extremely comfortable

    I love the country style (mainly for the durability of it). I have never worked on a ranch or a farm, and my parents were from the East Coast, so no one I knew really wore stuff like it. I've been relying on tips from people I work with and the interwebs, so finding a video like this is great.

    I bought my Double H 5400s in Amarillo a couple years ago. Was going to have them re-soled the next summer(last summer) but didn't need to. Planned on doing it this summer but I might be in for another year. These soles are indestructible. Worn every day besides winter and the Bison leather smell has me hooked.

    • @jbsimmons54
      @jbsimmons54 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to YT "Rose Anvil" who has sawed $85K of boots in half to show us all how they're made, pros and cons, Lucchese boots are way overpriced and not worth the money. That belongs to newcomer Texas Chisos boots. ~$600. Of course there are other not well known custom boot makers who charge a lot more, depending on design specs and materials. The toughest cowboy boot out there is Olathe. I have mid-range Tecovas in addition to many other brands in an earlier post. Look up Rose Anvil if you haven't. ☺️

    • @travr6
      @travr6 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jbsimmons54 Yeah I saw that. They are still my favorite. I don;t buy them for work boots. I have 2 pair of Chisos and they are the most uncomfortable things I have ever put on my feet.
      They are probably tougher but that's also why they are less comfortable.
      Lucchese are my every day boots. I don't use them for work. My work boots are Redwing or Thorogood.

    Had to sell my first stingray after I got them because I realized “these fuggers ain’t ever gonna stretch!” I worked at Western Warehouse in Dallas around 2006 when they were trying to rebrand. They did some great work doing our store on Interstate 75, but it didn’t work unfortunately. Miss working there for the discount. I just bought a pair of plum rough out cutter toes because I miss having something fancy and flashy. Not an every day boot, but something fun for events.

      @therealshaft9768 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TEXASLOYAL some hold up but many are not built the best. The imports we got in from Mexico was better made than the ones made in the usa and both had made in usa tags. Just like the Carolinas we made where also made in China and sent to our warehouse. The company keeps going cheaper and cheaper with materials and 90% of the staff are drug addicts that are paid on piece rate so the faster they do the job the more they make so quality goes out the window. We use to get so many returns due to all sorts of problems from heal tacks poking through soles to having bumps inside from things like rubber bands being in the cork cement under the sole. Wrong or poor stitching. I'm sure some are great but most are garbage except the ones that where being imported they always seemed better made.

      HH brown makes double H, Corcoran, Matterhorn, Carolina, Walkovers, fireman, but a majority of them are made in other places mainly Mexico and China. We would get 500 cases a day of from each and the factory in the usa produced under 200 cases a day.

    Bick 4 is good anything? Even regular or distressed leather? And do you use saddle soap to clean?

    • @Lance_Dale

      Yessir- on all leathers. And yes I do use saddle soap especially for the stitching of the sole. Light on the tops

    • @Tlos88
      @Tlos88 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you have oil tanned leather boots, I would recommend not using bick 4, as it is a water based conditioner. It can actually dry your boots out in the long run. Use an oil based conditioner like saphir greasey leather or oiled leather. If you have reptile boots, I would use saphir reptan, then bick exotic as a second option. Bick 4 is best for smooth, non oil tanned leathers.

    I only started wearing Cowboy boots due to Maverick in original Topgun. My question is. How do you buy a pair if havnt worn in some years and if your feet have gotten bigger from the gym? Normally a size 11 or 11 1/2. Do i need a wide? Or a even bigger size?

    • @straycat62
      @straycat62 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simple suggestion- go somewhere that sells boots. Or stop at one on a road tip or traveling. You can try on various sizes and brands. Each brand fits a little different. The sales help usually knows their stuff. I went in a real boot shop on a trip to Kansas City and went in NIGRO's Western wear. Dang they know there stuff. But there are many others in the States.
