Hmm I know y’all should throw back a couple of the longer videos and more experience and interactions during Matt’s last 8 weeks. Maybe find a stranger again to do something crazy.
Gonna miss Matt. One of the originals that started my traveling journey. Because of this channel, I solo traveled to Africa for 6 weeks and now have best friends from countries all over the world from people I met there
I admire that so much. I’ve always yearned to go explore what the world has to offer and meet people from all around. How did you finally just jump and do it??
Only found your channel 3 weeks ago but it's so uplifting with the generosity and friendlies from the strangers you meet, it reminds you to forget what the news and media try and tell you and to realise we are all the same under the skin. Love it. 👍
I did a similar thing in 2015 in China, but went out to a remote village on the border of mongolia with no hotels or anything, and the taxi was so confused why he was dropping us in this super remote village. We knocked on doors to find a place to stay. We had one of the best nights of our lives hanging out with the locals and sleeping on their floor. I love China so much and feel it's misrepresented in so many ways.
@@wonderwall135 In fact, these outstanding people were educated by the Chinese government, and Chinese people have a very high level of support for the government.
I lived in China for almost 3 years and 95% of what I found online about it beforehand was a lie. I LOVED living there due to the people, the amazing food, the adventure of a new place and the beauty of where I lived. It’s such a huge beautiful country that if you traveled non-stop for a year in it, you’d never see it all.
@werisetoshine beautifully said. I sadly only went for two weeks with my music department but it was such an amazing experience and two weeks is not nearly enough time. I’ll always remember Beijing and Shizaouzwong (sorry I have no idea how it’s spelled anymore)
I'm an American who has lived in China for 11 years, and I want to thank you guys for coming to China with an open mind. So many people who talk about China online and in the media do so with an agenda, and most don't understand the country at all. The reality is that China is not a perfect country (no country is), but it is incredible in many ways. People in the US are constantly bombarded with negative information about China to the point that they imagine it as a scary, dystopian nightmare. I highly recommend that more Americans and Europeans visit China to see it for themselves. People-to-people exchanges are vital, and if more people understand China better, it will help ease the insane geopolitical tensions.
funniest thing ever. Someone asked me if they took a taxi from the airport in New York would the taxi take them to the middle of nowhere and leave them there unless they paid them money. Another time someone asked me if America was more racist against Chinese people than black people. Yes people in China really believed both of these.
@@0xEden. "Social credit scores" are another one of those myths, my friend. They do not exist. Like I said, come to China and see it for yourself. Most importantly, come with an open mind.
I lived in Shanghai near Jing'an temple in 2010-2011 and it was one of the best years of my life… the food, culture, nightlife, and people were incredible. Such a shame that there are many, especially in certain subsections the US, that think negatively of China… but I think that’s slowly starting to turn around.
How does it feel to be brainwashed by Western media growing up? When you went to China, did you feel the tyranny and dictatorship of the Western media?😂
Dancing in the streets is generally not allowed. Chinese people should go to parks or squares to dance. You can dance to your heart's content as long as it doesn't disturb traffic or other people, and there are usually no police there.
As an American living in China for the past 5 years… the majority of the people here are so incredibly warm-hearted and welcoming. There’s so much that people outside of China would never or could never understand or see about life here. I’m so happy that this series is bringing new light into y’all’s eyes, but also the people that watch this video. The minds and souls of the regular Chinese people aren’t broadcasted through news and other propaganda we’re subject to. I hope you’re entire trip is incredible and something to remember! If you have time, come visit Hebei Province Baoding City - I’d love to show y’all around! 😁
Chinese here. But I feel sad when seeing the public opinions shifting towards anti-foreigners on China's Internet due to the economic dropping and political tension. I really hope people from all over the world could live in peace. But, I feel like it's getting worse. I am pessimistic about the relationship between China and America. I hope I am wrong.
As a British person who has lived in China for the past ten years I was confident that their experience would be great and their preconceptions would be quickly dissipated, their eyes have been slightly opened but to really realise how propagandised you are in the west it takes a long time living outside. The irony is that the US advises against travel to China when in reality you are at far more danger travelling to the US. I hope more people visit China and open their eyes, its really one of the best countries in the world to travel, its cheap (or at least it can be), transportation is cheap and convenient, it has unrivalled history and culture and its probably one of the safest countries in the world.
This channel has helped me in so many ways the past few years. From starting to learn how to snowboard all the way through my next adventure of climbing mountains in europa and South America..Covid brought me down in a deep dark depression that I only shared with myself and I was just starting to follow and watch this channel right before hand 2018. I still struggle with depression and such, but with the tools that I've been shown and how to use them, I've managed to want to continue on living and move outward in life with exploration of different countries on a budget, meet new people. I love what this group of people! Thank you for the courage!
As a "Laowai" (foreigner) living in China for 7 years, I can tell ive met some of the most heartwelcoming people. Even with a huge language barrier, body language, a smile and a bit empathy and compasion will be the only communication you need to connect with this beautiful people. Glad this is shown in this series. Love the content guys, keep it up!
Hii! I'm a 19 years old from a small island in the Indian Ocean and i really want to thank you for your time taken in making those videos. I really enjoy your concept. You've change my perspective on many different countries and i have learn a lot from you guys. You give hope to humanity. Thank you very much for that. Peace and love.
I agree with you. I visited Shanghai prior to COVID with my family and two kids. The people are so friendly and willing to help. I have been to over 35 countries and I would say this is my favorite by far. Selfie s with everyone. Specially our kids everyone wanted one with the little ones. Love what you all do.
Great video. But I have to point out: 1. The men in navy blue uniforms with whom you took selfie are actully security guards hired by property management companies. There are not many policemen patrolling the streets as foreigners might think. 2. The tiny car you were given a ride in is designed for grandpas' or grandmas' trip to grocery stores or for them to pick up their grandchildren from kindergartens. That's why there's not much room for adults. 3. People with whom you danced together were wearing traditional clothing of the Uygurs.
I actually cannot express how genuinely criminaly underated this comment actually is and this world actually genuinely needs more people actually like you in this world and you actually couldn't have said that actually any better than me lol.
@@RADICALFLOAT_95 I actually can not express how unperturbed I am to read a comment like yours. I knew there're people like you in this world who always assume the worst about those things they know nothing about. Fortunately, there are also good and wise people who are willing to open their minds to new things and are eagar to explore the world themselves rather than accept whatever MSM has been telling them.
It is not probably one of the safest country in the world, but IT IS one of the safest country in the world period no if , but , or what!!! I'm an American who has been living in China for over 15 years. Post covid it seems like there is a lot more youtubers coming to china and challenging the narrative they see on the media, and discovering this unique and interesting country for themselves! And as you experienced, China isn't nearly or scary or depraved as many westerners worry about (I mean, you got free starbucks! lol) I moved here in my 30's originally for 6 months and I haven't left since because of how much I like it here (especially in comparison to living in the US.) looking forward to your next videos!
Ikr. I also studied in China for a few yrs and life was so fun back then. Parties everyday, I always got back home alone super drunk with taxi after midnight and also walking as a woman it was super safe! For me it was just like any other country. 100% safer than most countries I've ever been to.
Thank you 👍🙏 we have a saying in China that roughly translate to "It's better to walk ten thousand miles than reading the thousand scroll". Certainly 💯 for your case 😊
As a woman in my 40s, I’m sure I’m not the demographic you’re aiming at but I haven’t missed one Yes Theory video over the years. My favourite TH-cam channel. Truly inspirational, eye opening, informative and some really beautiful cinematic storytelling over the years.
You're still young .What's meant for you will never pass you by . Get put and make it happen ❤🎉❤ .Less watching more action 🎬. You'll never be this age again. Embrace it and do what makes your heart sing ♥️.
As a South African that has lived in China for over 12 years I was in tears when I saw the positive experience you guys had. I hate how the western media and what they make China out to be. I will not leave China any time soon, I love China and for the most part its people, this is one or maybe the safest country to live in.
as a second gen chinese immigrant growing up in the states, i can't express how appreciative i am of ya'll for helping the world see beyond the stereotypes. yes china has its problems (doesn't every country?) but it's also full of life and love. can't wait for the rest of this series!
As someone who currently lives in China and has done for 6 years, this makes me so happy. I love my life here, the people are so friendly and life is so comfortable. Of course, when it comes to visas and permits it can get a little stressful, but that's nothing new. I had just as much trouble visiting the US from the UK as I did when I first travelled to China from the UK. Glad you guys finally made it out and are able to educate more people about what life is really like here!
I agree, I also moved from the UK to China around 10 years ago. It shouldn't be easy to obtain the right to live in someone else's country. The UK gives out passports like candy at a sweetshop and this means a lot people moving to the UK are less than desirable. In China, sure you can come study for a short time but if you want to live here long term , you aren't going to get a free ride. That's how it should be.
You have no idea seeing comments like yours means so much for me ! It always makes me said that a lot of westerners picture my country as this “land of taboo” 😅 but in reality they’re just missing out a beautiful place to visit because of stupid politics … I’ve lived in China and US and honestly all have their pros and cons
@@xueshang1035that’s because most ppl.in the West are brainwashed, if you turn on tv the level of propaganda is such that becomes impossible not to get stereotypes and not only about China, I traveled all over the world and had many surprises .
Thanks, guys, for a very inspiring and fun video. I have been struggling with chronic depression and getting out of my comfort zone, for most of my life, and your videos are a source of inspiration and motivation for me and I'm sure countless others. Warm greetings and much love from Namibia and good luck with all your future endeavours! 🙏💖🎉
Chinese? The reality is that most of Chinese are Little Pink (if you don’t know the mood Little Pink, you can look up the definition on Wikipedia). Chinese people are irrationally outraged towards Chef Wang Gang right now on Weibo. The time those guys posted this video is near the unofficial China’s egg fired rice day which is popular among Chinese dissidents! Everybody let’s go to your nearby Chinese restaurant to order a plate of egg fired rice or cook it by yourself to celebrate the special day and support Chef Wang Gang because Chef Wang is about getting cancelled just for uploading a video about how to make egg fried rice on Weibo yesterday because Mao Zedong’s son, Mao AnYing, “was killed in action by an air strike during the Korean War.” (according to wiki) Little Pink think egg fired rice is an insult to Mao AnYing and saw egg fried rice as a taboo. Ridiculous and insane😂
You're so braindead bruh, I'm Chinese and we're definitely not like that, Chinese people knows more than just politics, infact young people in China are somewhat embracing western memes. Our lives don't consist of worshipping winnie the pooh like how you imagined
@@ryana5435😂😂😂 They were not Little Pink before, but after they knew how much Western MSMs lied about their government they turned into the so-called Little Pink. So you guys are actually the creator of lil' Pinkies 😂😂😂
You guys make the most lively travelling videos I've seen, the energy that I wish I had around different people/culture, they are pure gold I tell you!
I haven't been this excited to watch a TH-cam series in a long time! I'm really looking forward to seeing more videos from China, as it's such a contrast from what the media usually shows and it's beautiful in every sense. Matt, you are a blessing to the community as a whole. We love you and thank you so much for creating this platform for us dreamers, and allowing us to connect and make the unimaginable manageable. One last thing, Matt - even if you say you're leaving for good, you'll always be a part of Yes Theory.
Media portrays all people and countries like that when in reality ALL OF US on the planet just want to live in happiness and peace amongst one another. It's the power greedy people that normally set the divide among the human race with color and religion.
I love that your time in China went so great! I visited this beautiful country a few years ago and was amazed by absolutely everything! Most people are quite sceptical when I tell them, but I had the most wonderful time there as well and would love to go back some day!
Man I miss seeing Matt! Just a good dude. He always showed the most discomfort, so it was heartwarming and rewarding watching him pull through. Felt like I resonated with him the most
I love how Matt hasn’t done this challenge in so long and went into it having his doubts but came out the other side happily surprised and childlike glee! Love this series and what you are doing to help during these difficult times around the world. Such a powerful and meaningful cause to support! Keep doing what you’re doing boys! I’d also love to find a way to support Matt in whatever he does next if it’s possible! Also, I’d like to see more video from this challenge if possible like how they woke up the next day and what happened next! Can’t wait for the next video!
I really adore this video because I'm currently on exchange in China and I am overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers here and how easy it is to become instant friends with anyone. I have had so many fascinating conversations with strangers on the train, with taxi drivers and even people on the elevator. I wanted to add though that the people Matt took photos with were not police - it's funny here but security officers wear practically the same uniforms as police officers so it is very hard to tell them apart even for locals, but there are hardly any actual police on the street so don't worry!
As someone who lives in China, I found it funny how you guys thought it would one of the hardest places to go 24 hours with needing help from strangers. Say what you will about the Chinese government, Chinese people are some of the friendliest and most helpful people on the planet. I'm glad you got to experience that, and that people got to see it. Great video guys.
This'll probably be buried under thousands of other comments saying exactly the same thing, but I can't watch another one of you videos without telling you how incredible they are. The genuine love you all have is something that the world needs more of! You're all an inspiration to me, and I can't wait to share this channel with my entire family!
I'm so sad that Matt is leaving but I am beyond proud of him and respect his decision wholeheartedly. This episode is so wholesome. Much love! Also, Save the Children!!
As an expat living in Shanghai, you are way too worried about the police. They are really not that bad 😂 it’s not a scary place to go and people are generally very friendly and generous
But most of the cops in this video r actually security guards, I didn’t see that many real cops on the street. Maybe people from the west r too sensitive and watched too much anti China propaganda
The air polllution is really bad though, right? I would love to visit China someday but I have yet to find a city that is both easy to get around but still has an okay air at least because my asthma would otherwise just destroy me. Hope you have some recommendations.
@@Shirumoon the air pollution is actually not too bad. It is currently a good AQI rating. We have a few days where it is bad but not very often. It’s definitely not as bad as places like India. China moved a lot of the industrial factories away from the city’s to reduce the pollution. My wife has asthma as has very rarely been effected by the air quality. It definitely recommended Shanghai. It’s very foreigner friendly. Metro systems and taxis are very cheap and most signs are in English which helps. I don’t speak a word of Chinese and I’ve managed here easily for 3 1/2 years
@@billydennis899 Oh then maybe I have confused it with another place? I read about people - sorry if this is too graphic - coughing up blood and stuff which sounds... intense. But from what you are saying, it really seems like an amazing place to visit. Thanks for the reply!
@@Shirumoon I mean that may have been the case in the past. But I have not known anybody to do that at all since I’ve been here. And there are definitely people with asthma living here and are fine. Just the odd day where they might have to wear a mask to protect themselves. But I’d say that has happened maybe 2-3 times in the years I’ve lived here. I think even cities like Bangkok generally get worse air quality than the big cities in China now. I would say not to worry about the air quality if you was to visit here.
I'm so sad that Matt is leaving! His personality is so charismatic and fun, bringing so much life to the videos. I wish him the best in his future endeavors!
I'm from china and i stated watching yes theory since 2019 when i was in china when covid started in china. You guy's video have given me so much energy during the dark times during lock downs. I was quire suprised that yest theory haven't traveled to china over the years yall've been traveling the world and seeking discomfort and i've bee wating for yall to show this beautiful country to the world. The media doesn't even have to tell peope what to think for people to think a certain way. what i mean by that is if u keep on showing only one side of the story to someone, it wouldn't take long for people to form a styriotipical view of a counry (and this is tru for china and the US). I'm so greatful for what you guys are doing for this world, to show the truth, to set aside our differences as individuals and to connect with strangers and learn about eachother. I was actually in shanghai during the time you guys were there and when to the same places, i really hoped i could have met yall in person in my own country. Love yes theory! love Matt! all the best guys! keep it up!
As a Chinese American, I love this video so much.. Just teaching the world our culture and showing a another side as opposed China's portrayal on social media
I'm sure ppl are great but the fact that all people are constantly monitored made me decide never to visit even I have always wanted to since I was a kid, but I don't like feeling like I'm on a leash.
Mainland Chinese culture is a lot more privatized in the sense that while there is public surveillance for safety purposes, civilians filming in public is a lot less of a common thing, especially if it's foreigners. Definitely a cultural thing since people are a lot more reserved in general in public. Despite this, there are many mainland Chinese and foreign TH-cam channels that do actively film in many Chinese cities, so I wouldn't say this is a widespread thing. Could just be a cop seeing a foreigner group filming with professional cameras and asking them to take it somewhere else. This cop could be an isolated incident too because I don't think this happens too often given the number of videos you can find online of people filming their experience in China. Also had a friend travel to Henan Province back in March who took a lot of videos and pictures for me and received no trouble from the police.
they dont actually track what u do all the time. i would say its similar to the surveillance system in the US, where by suspicious activity online would be raised to the system, and actually many countries do so to counter terrorism. so as long as u dont break any serious laws is fine. using vpn for personal use to surf youtube etc is fine as well @@nenadpopov3601
Help me understand, I'm American 51 years old been taught that China is a communist country and a very scary place to visit. What I see in this video is everyone is so happy and loving to everyone even the police are nice. Help me understand. My personality is just like Stephan. I love these videos I love you all. God Bless
This channel is the best place where we can see the world from the lense of some optimistic people. You guys never failed to show us the bright side of life, to show us that hamans are great and kind creators, y'all know how to spread love instead of hatred.
As soon as they met Zhiyong and Emma I literally said to myself “they’re the ones”. It’s crazy how easy it can be to read a person’s energy even just in a video
I’m a high school science teacher in the US, and most of my days are filled with people who have become so jaded, and have such a pessimistic view on life in the US and the world in general. These videos help keep my spirits up because it really shows that there is so much good in the world despite what we see in the news, and that people are (I think) inherently good and kind. Thank you for these videos ❤
This video is ridiculously important right now with the current political tensions, and its blown my mind at how kind and friendly the Chinese people are. Indoctrination works from all sides so there's obviously some people with preconceived ideas about the East and the West, but Yes! Theory are smashing down those preconceptions and bringing us all together as human beings. Thank you from the bottom of my full heart. ❤
Chinese people are very friendly. But some foreigners will take advantage of this friendliness, so it causes a lot of resentment. And some public institutions in China tend to treat foreigners too favourably. This also caused a lot of resentment
Oh so it is not a totalitarian communist dictatorship… of course the Chinese people are great, the 1.3 million in Australia are amazing people, but the country itself is a communist shit den.
The video is obviously edited. Sabbatical was in China recently and several (older) people just became awkward and stopped talking to him when he said he was American.
Love all of the work you guys do. I'm a Chinese-American and it's been painful to see the way my ancestral home country has been portrayed in the media and the rising tensions between there and the country I was born and raised in. I have attachments to both and just wish for peace wherever we can achieve it. Thank you guys for portraying a hidden side of China that many don't get to see. Super sad Matt is leaving but also super glad that Staffan has come so far from meeting you guys randomly for a video in Sweden and now going on all of these adventures with the team. Keep up the good work, 为人民服务!
As an American living in China with my wife for over 5 years now. I can tell you that this is 100 percent real with the reactions of the strangers. They are extremely kind here. Don't always listen to the propaganda here guys. It's really not that bad! 谢谢yes theory欢迎来到中国!
I absolutely loved this episode which I just happened to stumble upon. Subscribed and awaiting further postings. Brilliant work and a worthy cause to boot!
This video is literally gold. What I especially admire about Yes Theory is the fact the you guys continue to prove stereotypes wrong, and your videos have literally inspired me so much to go out of my comfort zone and learn more about people. Thanks so much for all you do!!
Chinese people are very friendly. But some foreigners will take advantage of this friendliness, so it causes a lot of resentment. And some public institutions in China tend to treat foreigners too favourably. This also caused a lot of resentment
I believe that the type of government in a country has a profound impact on its people, shaping the society, values, and behavior. A fair and accountable government tends to foster a more civilized, united, and actively engaged citizenry. On the other hand, a corrupt or irresponsible government may lead to social instability and discontent among the people. Therefore, the nature of the government directly influences the overall character of a country, as well as the qualities and behaviors of its citizens.
I have a sneaky feeling that Matt will be coming back in moments once in a good while just like Derin. It'll be interesting to see what he's up to say a year down the line. Whatever it'll be though, we know it'll be full of love and passion and wonder
What a brave and amazing video 😊..I lived in South China in 2015 and taught English there. I absolutely loved the experience and the chinese people were so welcoming and helpful to me x
Wow, I smiled all through the video, with a little drip of tears in my eyes, it's just overwhelming. Thank you guys for believing in humanity, we're one people.
aww matt 🥺🥺 even though ive grown to love the rest of the gang, matt has always been my favorite member of yes theory so of course its so incredible seeing him back for these last few videos! i hope he knows how much we love him and wish him nothing but the best
I love the healthy masculinity being displayed but the yes theory members. Authentic emotions, bromance and so much more that many men are afraid to show! So important to have role models like that as adolescent boys who watch this channel. One of the things I like most about you guys.
@@rasmusjensen588 Yeah maybe, They thought to themselves that people might think they are couples with the weird kiss like act. But in asia, it's disrespectful to do such disgusting acts of Homosexuality.
What a great duo Stefan and Matt make for the no Money challenge in China! It brings back faith in humanity to see so much warmth they received from Chinese people ! ❤. As a solo F traveler i know we can meet amazing person if you do take the chance to initiate contact. A smile can overcome all language and cultural differences !
Adore you guys, and what ya'll do! I've lived in china before and am not surprised you were met with openness, fun, and generosity. Sad china is seen the opposite way, but glad you guys are getting there and sharing the message in a beautiful and insightful way and sharing it with the world 🌎❤
I started the video laughing so hard and I ended up crying like a child. I have so much love and respect for Matt. I have so much love and respect for this community, the team behind the screens, the hosts and everyone involved in this family. Thanks for being there for us. Thanks for lifting us up. Thanks for saving me. Thanks for every single video.
Keep going! As a Chinese, I would say most Chinese people are just a little shy but if you show your passion directly, I'm sure that you will be welcomed more strongly. As the Chinese saying goes:"It’s such a delight to have a friend coming from afar." By the way, Chinese police would be 99.99% reliable so don't be afraid haha. But if you guys really want to see the reality of China, I don't think it is a good idea to seek for parks or some restaurants cause those places are for entertainment and thus the people there are for entertainment too. So why not just go to some villages in China?
I absolutely wish that I could have hosted Matt and Stefan while in Shanghai. I feel like there was a whole other world that they didn't get to see. Shanghai is such a beautiful and vibrant city with so much nuance. But I am so glad that they got to experience it the way they did!!!! We definitely need a Yes Fam Shanghai meet up. Give this a like if you think so too.
Aww this video warmed my heart so much! I haven't been back to China in 6+ years and watching this video makes me want to go back to visit even more. I'm glad you all enjoyed your time there and were able to meet some wonderful people :)
I'm from China and the video is so nice. Most of the cops that you've encountered are security from either the mall, or so called "traffic police" who only deals with traffic problems, including controlling crowd flow. There are just so many people from China that every crowd gathering means a potential stampede or other security risks, plus we really do like gather around and look at stuff lol. In those cases just follow their orders and walk away and you are all good. I think the only real cop that you have encountered in this video is at 8:45.
I lived in Shanghai, China as an American for 7 years! Love that y’all went to Shanghai and got to experience some of the culture. Shanghai is one of my favorite places and will always be dear in my heart. Stoked to see more of y’all’s adventures!
When living in China, I found that people were always so willing to make exceptions for you. There is a lot of 人情…. I’m not sure how that translates in English, human kinship? 😅
That's not even a car, it's actually a modified moto tricycle 🤭. In Chengdu those elderlies drive them and pixxing off so many other cars because they get in your way out of nowhere when you are in a hurry...and you can't do nothing bc they are ELDERs.
Guys, in some of your videos we think 'No way that is possible'. This was one of them! But somehow, you always manage to do it. Thank you for such inspiration! In such troubling times we're living nowadays, a kind word and a smile is exactly what is needed. Peace and Love y'all!
@@dR1923 It's not that bad. China enjoyed majority of three years without any infection cases. There are a few places with multiple breakouts but overall it is not bad.
@dR1923 You are lying. During the epidemic, China produced masks, medical supplies and other daily necessities for the world. How did they produce products if China had been in lockdown? China did lockdown certain areas in order to keep 0 Covid , from time to time and the rest of the country is still productive and people lived in a normal life. We (the USA) never had a real lockdown. That’s the reason we lost about 1.2 million lives.
I visited Shanghai in 2019. China truly was an amazing place. The culture shock definitely hit me at first but after being there for a week I had such an amazing time. Hope to visit again 🙏🏻
OF COURSE they gave you a lot of food at the restaurant. 😄 They take food and eating so seriously there, it's amazing. "Have you eaten?" can be the same as asking "How are you?". It was SO much fun watching this. Great job guys!
This is due to China's history of poverty. It used to be so bad everywhere, that having something to eat was never guaranteed. Asking someone if that had eaten that day is a more sincere way of ask "How are you?" to the Chinese, and they actually cared if you ate of not.
I love this video. I moved to China 1 year ago after watching your videos I was inspired to do something ive always wanted to do. I did it, I'm here, I live in China, and it's been the place where I've seeked the most discomfort and found the most joy. I love China it is the most happy I've ever been. So, a special video for me. Thank you! ❤🎉
Hello! I'm an American who has lived in China for about 7yrs now, and seeing this video after growing up watching y'all has been really great. When I first moved here, I was abt 11, and over time, I found your videos, they have really helped me express my international mindset and were always a good break.
I had a teacher in high school who taught and lived for a few years in China and said it was her favorite place she's ever lived. I asked her why and she told me that it was really just because of the people, that most everyone there is just warm and happy and friendly and there's just a feeling of joy of living that is contagious. Yes, the government is strict, the political climate is icy and tense, but when you cut that away we are all just people looking for connection with other people.
As Chinese I assure you we’re mostly nice and easy going😊 no need to worry about cops they’re most likely not there for spying on tourists and take as many pic you want 😂
China has many cultural differences, but for the most part, they are generous, the food is amazing and you're treating as a laowai mostly with curiosity and respect. The pollution up North isn't great though.
Only when you see it with your own eyes will you have a different understanding. China is an inclusive, open, friendly country. My friend, you are welcome to visit China.😁
I am delighted that you experienced the China I know and love. I lived in Shenzhen for 7 years and truly love the people and culture. Thank you for showing the hospitality and openness of those you met.
“Is there a lot of police? Yes.” LOL, the guys you thought were police were just security guards. It's a commercial district. It's like going to a shopping mall in the United States and feeling intimidated because there are mall rent-a-cops walking around. It goes to show that when you visit foreign countries, you should leave your preconceptions behind.
Staffan is the living definition of just being open and accepting of where life puts you and being joyful of the experience. I can see it often but the sparkle in his eye when he says that he doesn’t know exactly but is loving the local dance tradition in the park and then seeing the smile and sparkle in his dancing. It truly makes that quote “a head full of fears has no space for dreams” expand from dreams to opportunities ❤️
Never could've Imagined this sort of welcoming in China. Thankyou for showing the beauty of the people of a country so little people truely get to know
I will be moving from Germany to Shanghai in a month, can‘t wait to see for myself what the country - at its core - is all about! This was such an awesome glimpse into the hospitality and warmth of the Chinese.
They chose the easiest and most westernized city to film this in…I wouldn’t say Shanghai is at the core of the country, but yes there are friendly people everywhere in China.
Always wanted to travel to China, but never had the ‘comfort’ to fully consider it. But having this inside perspective definitely convinced me to do it
Went to China for three weeks back in 2018. Loved every minute of it. Such an interesting culture, and a great and challenging adventure when you have absolutely zero knowledge of the local language and the customs. 😅 Greetings from Sweden, guys. You're truly incredible.

I love China so much and feel it's misrepresented in so many ways.
as with most countries, the problem is the government, not most of the people

I lived in China for almost 3 years and 95% of what I found online about it beforehand was a lie. I LOVED living there due to the people, the amazing food, the adventure of a new place and the beauty of where I lived. It’s such a huge beautiful country that if you traveled non-stop for a year in it, you’d never see it all.
So real. I wouldn’t say everything is a lie, they are indeed strict, but people have so much more freedom compared to what media portrays

Yeah. I am now not daring go to the US as a tourist given so many hostile comments about Chinese online

funniest thing ever. Someone asked me if they took a taxi from the airport in New York would the taxi take them to the middle of nowhere and leave them there unless they paid them money. Another time someone asked me if America was more racist against Chinese people than black people. Yes people in China really believed both of these.

Actually they sometimes exaggerate the "fear" of police to feed the bies of western perception of China - a police state.
But at 8:43, this one is a true policeman😄
the last one is policemen actually

But I have to point out:

I agree, I also moved from the UK to China around 10 years ago. It shouldn't be easy to obtain the right to live in someone else's country. The UK gives out passports like candy at a sweetshop and this means a lot people moving to the UK are less than desirable.
It's a wonderful culture, and I'm curious why are the police so strict? I was confused why they were waved out of the park, no filming and chatting?
Also had a friend travel to Henan Province back in March who took a lot of videos and pictures for me and received no trouble from the police.
they dont actually track what u do all the time. i would say its similar to the surveillance system in the US, where by suspicious activity online would be raised to the system, and actually many countries do so to counter terrorism. so as long as u dont break any serious laws is fine. using vpn for personal use to surf youtube etc is fine as well

Sometimes it's really shocked that the outside world knew very little about China ....
@@aaga721both ways
Why do Americans always put their ethnicity before. Shouldn't it be American Chinese
I lived in China for 4.5 years, the best 4.5 years of my life……..seriously considering going back in the next 5-10 years forever
我和没在那里和不会,当然。
Its your sgin to do so.
As an American living in China with my wife for over 5 years now. I can tell you that this is 100 percent real with the reactions of the strangers. They are extremely kind here. Don't always listen to the propaganda here guys. It's really not that bad! 谢谢yes theory欢迎来到中国!
The government isn't their people..
I absolutely loved this episode which I just happened to stumble upon. Subscribed and awaiting further postings. Brilliant work and a worthy cause to boot!
This series is just what the world needs right now. I'm so grateful for you guys. Thank you so much!

This video is literally gold. What I especially admire about Yes Theory is the fact the you guys continue to prove stereotypes wrong, and your videos have literally inspired me so much to go out of my comfort zone and learn more about people. Thanks so much for all you do!!
I worked with Chinese people on a project for several months, and my experience was that they are very humbled and kind. Thank you for the video🤗

Whatever it'll be though, we know it'll be full of love and passion and wonder
they did specifically say they plan on doing this on the podcast episode with thomas and matt :)
This was so heartwarming seeing everyone together at the end of the video
I’m crying with you Matt can’t wait to read your book
Man Chinese people are so kind .. you really changed the perspective of China for me
I love the healthy masculinity being displayed but the yes theory members. Authentic emotions, bromance and so much more that many men are afraid to show!
So important to have role models like that as adolescent boys who watch this channel. One of the things I like most about you guys.
Yes absolutely!!!
Sitting on a cafe drinking a matcha together is not really healthy masculinity, it's just very weird.

Sad china is seen the opposite way, but glad you guys are getting there and sharing the message in a beautiful and insightful way and sharing it with the world 🌎❤
This was really such a wholesome episode, my whole perception of china has changed , its such a wonderful place
This channel offers so so much value, thank you so much Yes Theory Team!
I realize that this is a 4 part series so I'm gonna guess that they did a great job seeing the entire city. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos.
I love how all these comments from ‘foreigners’ living in CCP land are copied from the same CCP script
The tiny car you're in is not a taxi, it's just a friendly Chinese man driving his own car to give you a ride
Yes, this tiny car is for the elderly and the disabled. It's forbidden to earn money by that especially in big cities like Shanghai
😭😭 thats so cute
When living in China, I found that people were always so willing to make exceptions for you. There is a lot of 人情…. I’m not sure how that translates in English, human kinship? 😅
That's not even a car, it's actually a modified moto tricycle 🤭. In Chengdu those elderlies drive them and pixxing off so many other cars because they get in your way out of nowhere when you are in a hurry...and you can't do nothing bc they are ELDERs.
but i have to say,in china's town pople will ride it@@ghoststreet7301
Guys, in some of your videos we think 'No way that is possible'. This was one of them!
But somehow, you always manage to do it. Thank you for such inspiration!

Been living in China for four years and I need to tell that I’m extremely happy you had such a good time and met so many warm-hearted people ❤️
Have you lived there also during the pandemic? Was the lockdown there so bad as the western media presented it?
@@dR1923living in beijing during that entire time i can confirm that it was worse
@@dR1923 It's not that bad. China enjoyed majority of three years without any infection cases. There are a few places with multiple breakouts but overall it is not bad.
@@robbrand922 "enjoyed"? If 3 years of your life living in lockdown means "enjoying", then ok.
@dR1923 You are lying.
Guys you make me tears. i hope we could all have a better world
I visited Shanghai in 2019.
中国政府为了能让14亿中国人吃饱,在任何时候想吃什么就吃什么。付出了很大的努力!中国成语,民以食为天。
Awesome video. My Aunt is from China. Chinese people are truly wonderful. My Aunt is the sweetest person ever. They're kindness is infectious ❤

Thank you! ❤🎉
Feels like Steffan has been here from the very beginning, can't state enough how much I love this channel, you guys and the content!❤
The govt. should be strict in every country.

This is truly so beautiful! I never imagined China to be like this. The amount of disinformation fed on a daily basis in the US is genuinely insane.
It's not the people it's the government.

Thank you for showing the hospitality and openness of those you met.
They are minor. Can you judge westerners by Reddit or Twitter comments? Offline is a totally diffident world man.
