Fun fun...just got finished fiddling with a draggy Barnett clutch...ended up taking the clutch basket off checking the key and re torqing the nut and cleaning the plates with brake clean, refilling with ATF-F instead...waiting on a rain free day to tester out.
Ain’t no one tech at any Harley shop can do what you do. They might have a certificate from a tech school but you have a masters degree from time and experience university. Well done Biker!!
Man I just got a ‘81 FXWG Wide Glide and am obsessed with this channel. All your explaining is helpful. You’re awesome my man and glad you have this channel.
I have the same bike 81 FXWG and can't get into 4th gear. It had been sitting for years and just got it on the road. Ran fine for a couple of rides and now won't go into 4th. From 3rd to 4th it doesn't engage and feels like neutral. Also it bucks when you drive it until you open it up. Great videos !!
The rotary chops are known for that shifter plate, weld, breaking loose in the top of the transmission. Good place to check! Thanks for watching appreciate it.
Noticed the rubber bump pad for kickstand is gone. That happened alot, I think they still make those. However, I have cut a 1/2 wide piece of a 3/4 heater hose and put it around the end of the kickstand and it works fine.
Awesome good job I started mine back together and yup inner primary had crack , at welder . I have a question I got James gasket set with 4 rubber but hard like a washer? Do I put them behind washers that hold trans in to seal inner primary?? You know the studs that go threw primary with 4 nylon nuts . Again love the channel!! My favorite and ride free🇺🇸
I love watching the technique of your work on the old bikes ......the continuity of your video needs some fine tuning . Like i was watching the clutch pack install , then the starter didn't engage .....so how did you get the bike to fire ? what was the fix?
Sometimes we lose some footage in edit, I’m a hillbilly with wrenches and don’t do any editing,if I remember correctly on this bike it was a faulty starter selonoid
Nice job, I work on other people's junk all the time so I know what you are up against. I'm ok with the ratchet top & tank shifter tops so I was very curious to see what you found on the cow pie. Did you bother replacing the main seal ? Im a true believer in the Red Line high shock synthetic gear oil.
The cow pie, shifter shaft, weld failed, just had to re-weld it, and yes, replace the seal, Bike ended up running good, this video is actually about four months old
@@HobsonsChoiceHarleys I just happened to have it pop up & watched all 4 parts. I enjoy the real life videos, that's the way I operate so, that's the way I want to see it done.
Great tip on marking with a sharpie when you can’t see the woodruff key. Genius! 👍

I used a drop of super glue on the drift key to keep it from movin around.
I have an '83 FXWG, so I REALLY enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing...

Oh, he whipped it really good !
Sharpen a lead pencil. Jam the sharpened point of the lead (graphite) down in the groove beside the key. It helps keep the key in place.
You are doing a fine job with these videos. Keep 'em comin'!
Thank you sir !!
