11:15 I especially machined a brass acorn nut for the case bolt between the cilinders. My 83 FXDG was leaking from the original bolt, so I put a copper washer and an acorn nut. I have two Sturgis’s as well, those have acorn nuts everywhere, which I believe was done from the factory… here in Europe standard hardware is impossible to find, when I need something I machine it from brass and use a tap and die set.
Just wondering why you are stripping and not finishing? Was fun to watch, starting to reassemble my 1980 transmission back in bike tomorrow to cold today-6 degrees in Pennsylvania! Thanks for video ride free🇺🇸
Guy had to have the motor and frame! Tried to help him out and then he flaked on the deal !! After I tore the bike apart !!!🤬! Not sue what I’m gonna do now
That bike has enough stuff it wouldn’t be THAT hard to put back to stock. FYI the early 1972’s were boat tails (how do I know? My oldest brother had one brand new and I restored a ‘72 that way back in 1992). You’d need a 33.4 mm drum brake front end. 3-1/2 gallon tanks and rear fender with the small taillight probably the hardest things to find. You are right about that paint job. Not my cup of tea but it’s very well done and somebody worked their butt off. NICE BIKE!
Yeah, the Boattail was an option and 71 and 72, I actually have a complete Boattail rear fender for a sportster that I’m trying to sell, and I have enough 33 mm front ends I could build this back to stock, might actually end up going that direction! Thanks for watching and commenting!! Much appreciated
Awesome Vid! I am trying to talk myself out of looking at a 1980 FLH this coming week. If I do end up going to see it and buying it, I might be wanting to pick your brain. I was a certified H-D wrench 30 years ago and worked on a lot of shovels but haven't touched one since 92 and don't remember shit nowadays.
I still might finish it, the guy who was going to buy the motor off me, backed out at the last minute kind of left me hanging! So it might go back together, hard to say I’ve got so many projects are on right now, just picked up another shovel head yesterday as a matter fact

It’ll all come back to you, but I’d be happy to give you any advice or help as needed, I’d say pull the trigger on that 1980 the only live once!
This is a sick bike! I kinda wish you would finish it how it is!

That's a very cool style. I didn't realize, until watching the video, that the sissy bar is going through the fender. How strong is that?
Extremely strong ! Custom fender , struts and sissy bar supports built into underside of fender !! Very cool and rare piece
Shame to go to all that trouble without taking it for a ride. Sounds and looks like you scored a pretty good deal.
Wanted to keep motor prestine for resale , but now illl probably run it !!
You're right; every man(or woman) is going to build a bike that suits their wants and needs. The hell with them armchair quarterbacks...
Well said sir !!!👊
