I’m in southern Ontario which is inbetween the Great Lakes. During the winter a snow squall can come off from any direction. Particularly Lake Huron with the winds from the west and northwest. When the water is warmer or colder then the air a snow squall can form.
I remember these well when visiting my parents in the Adirondacks of New York. I was happy with the ambient sounds. No commentary or music. It just sounds like it looks.
Vancouver, Washington State here, last good Snow storm we had here was January 2016. The Weather dude lied to us and said, "Na, it ain't gonna come." well it did. We got a whoppin 8 inches of snow in about 4 hours which is crazy for us. I swear if we get lucky just to get a 1 inch of Snow the News goes crazy and half the city shuts down. It cracks me up laughing.
Lived in Rochester NY for 6 years this was our typical first lake effect snow in October, i miss those first squals the wind kicking up going from green to white in minutes.
Yes..its a narrow squall front..they are relatively rare, but produce a lot of snow in just a few mins..they generally don't last more than 30 mins. they sometimes are accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Growing up in West Texas, we had freak winter storms like this occasionally but they literally lasted one day. Mostly they were freak dust storms, and if you were outside you would most likely suffocate.
Really? I have been down south for 30 years and forgot all about it, but my boy is convinced that we should move to where dad grew up in northern MI. Kinda scared, but ya, it's time to escape the hurricanes.
Tell you what, I'll fly you up here in December, January and you can enjoy it! I'll even let you use this new newfangled tool we have called a snow shovel.
Nothing scary about it squalls move quickly and are small in size and combined with the fact that they happen well below freezing means it wont cut power or get u stuck in ur house
@@arya_shm 2 inch an hour is nothing out of the ordinary in the snowbelts we can easily get 6 inches per hour rates early when the lakes are still warm
Where I live , that would be considered a dusting of snow. Buffalo, ny. But we also get a ton of false reports of bad weather because it happens in the south towns and no where near Buffalo. For the most part , over the years our winters have become quite mild over time. Nothing stays the same.
Here in Denver, Colorado. It can be a nice 75 degrees, you go inside for a nice tall glass of cold lemonade and when you come out you come out to 2:30 🤦♂️😂
Here in Russia we get about 10-14 inches an hour and get about -50 to - 55°C. I especially live in a cold city called Verhoyansk and it is Nov 12th and it is - 36°C.
I was outside when blizzard of 78 ripped through ohio in short sleeve shirt before I got home from other side of block there was allready 5"snow on ground next morn door wouldn't even open from snow.
The fact it looks like Spring at the beginning of this video is the reason why this Awesome Squall developed. It looks like Spring because it had been unseasonably warm throughout the entire region before this event, for a period of time. Perhaps, a 'January Thaw' type of event had happened. Lake Erie was 'hot' as heck compared to the air mass that quickly came down from Canada and then wham!
Dang, I'm in Ohio as well, but I'm in Southern Ohio, we hardly get any snow down here, I'm hoping tho this year we do get some good Snow bc we need it 😁, I just looked and Newton Falls, OH is 4.5 Hours or 277 miles away from me Lol
Back in the ‘50’s & early ‘60’s we kids were always very happy on days like this. It meant school were closed that day. We’re in Ontario Canada.
It still means it in Indiana
Vince Scheller , and anywhere that’s prone to snow storms. 😁
I thought in the 50's and 60's you had to walk 5 miles through 3 feet of snow through a corn field to go to school.
@@fritzsmith3296 lol
Squalls dont close shit the last at most an hour or two but usually only few minutes

Its just a pleasure to watch how ferocious these storms can be; thanks for sharing

Dammit that was intense. Sometimes, with a snow squall, lightning and thunder are present.
Great video. We used to have ice storms and occasional snow here in north Texas when I was a kid in the late 60s and 70s. Now it’s very rare.
Why is this snow so perfect?
8 inch an hour snowfall rate.... very impressive!!
That's absolutely incredible!! Great video!!
We had the same snow squall come thru Black Ash Pennsylvania. It was very similar to conditions in your video.
Where I live (in the southern US) if we get 2 inches our schools may close for a week.
Growing up in West Texas, we had freak winter storms like this occasionally but they literally lasted one day. Mostly they were freak dust storms, and if you were outside you would most likely suffocate.
was that lake effect or arctic cold front?
I miss this weather. Will be moving back to it within a couple of years. Stoked!

I love snow and I love rain. I don' care much for sunlight.
Dang that seems so awesome! Being from Texas I would love to experience snow like that someday

I live in Ohio too. I miss winter's like this, we just don't get it like this anymore. 😢
Where i live it rarely snows so i enjoyed a lot this video! Of course so much snow in just fifteen minutes a little bit scaring but still beautiful!

A good day to stay in and watch a movie.

We just had one tonight. Weirdest thing, only lasted about 10 minutes.
I never saw Snow falling in my life I wish I was there. ❤❤❤
Was this lake effect or are you too far south?
It was a lake enhanced squall along an Arctic cold front. We do see lake effect snow frequently during the winter.
@@WeatherOhio most squalls in the midwest are very brief and melt right away, normally minimal accumulation. Neat video, thanks.

I have family who live in Buffalo NY and sometimes get 10 inches in 3 hours while people 10 miles away get 0. It's pretty interesting.
TJusnow Exactly what I thought. Holy hell that's heavy snowfall.
That's quite the snow squall!
