Why your Ubuntu doesn't look like mine? It is certainly not the default theme? What theme you're using?

There are a couple of things that might make it look different. First, if you're on Ubuntu version 20.04 you probably have the Gnome desktop that comes default. I switched this out for Unity which I show how to do here: th-cam.com/video/PJTD68gl5e0/w-d-xo.html. The other thing is I've installed a new theme and icons which I show how to do here: th-cam.com/video/KeByvIuFwX0/w-d-xo.html. Hope that helps!

So I was looking at SVGator, but having to pay a monthly fee has put me off. I am looking to animate SVGs for web development. Synfig is perfect for this right?

It should work for that! Depending on what exactly you're looking to do, for web you might be able to get away with creating SVGs in free software called Inkscape (our channel has video tutorials for this if you're interested) and then just using CSS to do animations on them if the movements are simple enough.

I just downloaded synfig and on the lower left side of the homework screen there is no section for borders and outlines. I saw how you can add and subtract windows so I may have done that accidentally upon installation....
You may have saved my computer's life.

You need to be careful with your tutorials. You go to fast for beginners and due to you being use to using your software you miss or assume important parts. For example you choose a rectangle to animate but you choose rectangle - region not rectangle - rectangle. The difference is the region rectangle can be moved using one selection where was rectangle has to have all sides selected to be moved. How this saves a lot of beginners from this pain.
We miss fireworks and flash as the tools were much easier and were easier to update. Can’t complain too much as synfig and gimp are free but make easy things to complex sometimes.
To be fair you clarify afterwards but this should have been clear before you created the the rectangle. Other than that it was a great tutorial.
