Let me see if I understand this correctly...you throw out the backer board from ikea...and then throw away the glass front and what you are essentially left with is a very cheaply made picture frame that appears to be stapled together. So you essentially paid $19 pounds for a crappy picture frame?
FYI, I could be wrong but I believe the 20v, refers to a max voltage, they are more than likely 18v tools. American Dewalt tools are advertised as 20v but are the same as the uk 18v range. I believe this is the case here too. Great video though ❤
20 V is max voltage that the batterry is able to produce only for a very short time, like a second or two when charged to 100%. After that it drops to the nominal voltage, which is 18 V. Since regulation is more strict and consumer protections are stronger in Europe, companies are not allowed to advertise these tools/batteries as 20 V.
That's the angle, the foam is very firm around it and it's sat in there nice and solid! We've done similar projects with circular saws and not had any issues!
I wish i could own all these.. Fell in love with woodworking and the Skil brand. Afforfable but still great quality..i have the table saw orbital sander and circle saw. They all perform great.
Don't think any of my tools deserve such a lavish display, but I can't help but see the application going towards a damn good looking gun wall for my gun room. Slat walls have been done to death! Appreciate your time, product and the sharing of the videos helping to create organisational witchcraft.
I really enjoyed The Flash (2023)! I can understand why some people thought it was messy, but it had a number of strong emotional scenes and who doesn’t love seeing Michael Keaton back in the batcowl?
All the vertical wall that I have is either for cabinets or used already for existing tool storage. And my tools go all over the place, so I just grab their boxes or bags and and carry them to where I need them.
I am impressed that you use the metric system as I clearly hear you are British, cheers for that! Also, what a smart way of keeping tools, sorted and displayed, AND within perfect reach :)
The UK began changing over to metric in 1965. I was taught both systems at school in the 1980s as people were still using both at the time but by the time I'd left school it was pretty much metric 100% for everything.
Hi, agree a super nice layout … perfect for a show room. But I doubt this is practical for a workshop. But I can imagine this being very practical for many other purposes.
Frees up floor and work space, allows you to access your tools all at once and know where they are at all times to get the project done quickly and without wasting time searching for tools, this project was designed for workshop purposes 👍
I agree, it looks nice but not for my used dirty tools. Maybe it would work good for a stationary work space. I have my corded tools in one drawer, air tools in another and battery powered in a carry bag. Instead of the picture frames, i could see this in a wall mounted cabinet, so it wouldn't take up so much wall space.
The Skil tools look the business ,I also like the red & black colour goes together well , the wall hangers are awesome a good way of keeping your tools together 👍
Kinda jealous.... lol I just upgraded my Table saw and mitre saw with Skil after losing almost everything. And I love what @Skil is doing... really great stuff! And love the look of your setup... one of the nicest i've seen in awhile. Great job man...
Interesting, your video came on my feed. I like the idea, I built a standard French cleat tool shelf, small area...but this is next level. I have all my drill drivers in mine and drill bits, but not sure you can do this with a picture frame. I have mine on a shelf with the diameter drilled out to place each small bit in.
First time on your channel. This is a great idea for my Ryobi tools. Just a quick question where would I be able to find the foam I live in the states.
@@ShadowFoam happy to trail it for you,😎 , got a wall that I would like to fill with my daily tools so would be a mixture of power tools and hand tools ,

This type of solution only makes sense if you sell the foam ;-)... I'm certainly not about building trophy cases for my tools... bought some Ryobi Link rails + hooks just to get them off the floor, that solution was much faster, cheaper, easier to reconfigure and will endure better than this.
That is fantastic! I truly enjoyed your video… the entire production was first rate, (I even enjoyed the music)! I am so jealous of that setup. Not sure it would be worth it but could you not offer some stencils or templates for the large brand tool sets, card templates lasercut or whateva, even digital that you can print off
I love the idea but I cant seem to find the frames (and certainly not for that price) I think I might try to find some thin angle iron at my local hardware store that I can chop 45s on and glue in place.
Thanks for a great informative video. What is the width of your French Cleats in mm? It looks like 60mm. And the spacing between the wall mounted cleats?
That looks quite nice, I give you that. But how long will the foam last, if you use your tools on a daily basis? Might be ok for the very light stuff. But I wouldn't trust the system to hold a circular saw tight.
Hi Moses, we have a Makita Wall that I made 3 years ago that is used very regularly and has still retained all it's strength, the foam is dense and made for projects like this!
Ok, I have to say the Shadowfoam product looks pretty good. I wasn't aware of it before stumbling over this. I've been doing a lot of 3D printing of "Gridfinity" storage boxes and they have their place but printing holders for tools might be a bit too large. May have to get me some of this foam. I'm very over everything just laying around in piles making it impossible to find anything, a constant low level irritant, not just in the workshop but also just in day to day life. Great end result here as well. I can more see myself using it in tool drawers and the like but you never know. Now all I need is a CNC machine slash laser... 😬
Hi@@ShadowFoam - i just want to use one frame. If i use the Sannahed frame for my project, which depth of foam will be best? I want it to be flush as possible?
Just FYI, 18 and 20v are just difference in marketing. they generally use the same cell configurations in the batteries giving the same voltage (20v max, 18v nominal)
Looking awesome. How about integrate the charger for the batteries into the French Cleat Poer Tool Wall. That would be a nice addon since your power outlet is nearby. Nice Work..
Wow, that looks so clean. It would look clean in a music studio too, effect pedals, wires, spare mics, and all the other bits and bobs. The 3 frames together almost look big enough for an expensive guitar to display too.
Got an old original chorded Skilsaw with a wobbly blade. Need a spacer or washer or something but just can't find spare parts for it. Is it the same make as Skil?
If you keep the top frames I would insert slim batons sprayed black on either side of the Shadow Foam logo to get the top frames to have the same overall width as the bottom frames. Personally I would have a charger unit mounted into one of the empty frames with power wired in. This way you can keep batteries charged, as you check a battery and see its LED is not green you could then just pull it out and slot it into the charger on the wall without needing to pull out a charger or have a charger taking up valuable bench space. You have a power cable lower so wiring up power for a semi permanent charger location would simple and not aesthetically unpleasing Given you have multiple chargers having one wall mounted would not take away from your flexibility as you would still have chargers left to take with you on jobs as necessary.
Got to be careful that you do not restrict air flow around batteries and chargers as they will quickly overheat. I suspect this is a very bad idea in practice despite being a temptingly desirable aesthetic solution.
It seems like an amazing product for things like drawers and toolboxes, where the items are either laying down, or contained by a lid, but straight up and down against a wall? What's to stop the tools from eventually leaning over and tipping out one by one? Yes, I do see the foam is grippy, but wouldn't a couple of years in a non-climate-controlled garage going through multiple hot and cold cycles eventually cause them to shrink and lose its grippiness? Wouldn't repeatedly removing and replacing a tool do the same even in a climate-controlled garage? If I were to do something similar, I would want the panels given a slight tilt with the bottom further out from the wall than the top-- maybe that was done here, and I missed it?
I know I have a habit of putting LED on everything, but it'd be cool to see a LED panel setup behind the foam panels, shining through the outline. It would depend on the foam type/color/transparency to make sure it doesn't just bleed light everywhere, though.
I've been using your foam for years and I absolutely love all the accessories that you have concocted to make beautiful foam more achievable. Another fantastic watch.
Like a true voyeur, I haven't bought any 🤣 but I'd say my favourite is your branded hole and corner templates. Would be alot quicker than running round the hanger looking for a perfect sized washer to cut round
While I don't have a tool collection worth a display like this, I do have a fossils and minerals collection I could see this idea working with. Thank you for giving me some ideas.
This is the first video I've watched from your channel. I was totally blown away. Very masterfully done. I just subscribed to your channel and will watch your videos more.
Love the idea. It'd be great if there was a way to store the batteries but have them on charge at the same time. Or at least have one slot with a charger and just move them into it as and when they need charging.
I could see it working from view of the fit, and it sitting off the wall would even allow for the cable. But my concern about charging would be the heat. I would not feel happy leaving so little ventilation room around a battery and charger in use. Best I can think of is smaller empty frames perhaps, just to hang alongside, into which you can place a charger and battery on their own, no foam. Maybe a logo or some other aesthetic filler to put in place when the charger is not in use, to at least stop them looking out of place when empty. Could even have foam a cutout for the charger only, cable routed through the back. Tidy when not in use, and just remove the foam when it is.
I did wonder if the Circular Saw would hold in place, because it's a rather deep item. How well did the dust collection work on that item. With That many batteries to manage. Do Skill sell a wall mounted multi-battery charger?
Dust collection worked well once I had got it on, and the foam holds it nice and firmly. I am not sure if SKIL sell a wall-mounted charger but we could be persuaded to make one...
Great start to the layout. You could put some accessories for the tools in one of the end frames such as screwdriver bits, drill bits, saw blades etc. You should put one of your cutting kits into a wall box somewhere as well.
Been thinking of a power tool storage of some kind but never thought of this. 👍 First thing I thought of for the side panels was a dedicated battery panel, of course charger right next to it.
Im looking at replicating this and just checked the sheets on your site. When you measured the internals of the frame readying the CNC I think you said 505mm, which is bigger than your medium sheets @ 500mm (which I would hope to get 2 out of), what can you recommend?
A very unique idea in tool organization. I never would have thought of it. My tools are divided into many categories as they range from gunsmithing, RC cars, wood working, power tools, guitar luthier, automotive etc. So my main worry is what is the life of shadow foam? I have seen some foams from my father's equipment and over a decade it just disintegrated and turned powdery due to mould or age. So for me this could be a big investment and my main worry is it's life. I would be grateful if you could guide me with your opinion on this matter. Superb content by the way and have a great day.
That foam is pick and pluck, famous for disintergrating and that inspired me to create Shadow Foam as a hard wearing, long lasting alternative! I’ve had installations up for 3-4 years in my unit so far and they show no sign of wear or tear.

Correct, 18V is the so called "nominal voltage" of the cells (5 x 3,6). 20V is the maximum voltage of the cells (5 x 4).

Would love to see that if you give it a go!
This is the first video I've watched from your channel. I was totally blown away. Very masterfully done. I just subscribed to your channel and will watch your videos more.
Thanks mate, welcome to the channel! 👍
Love it what a great idea
Thanks Martin! Appreciate that mate!
The layout portion of the video gave me backflashes to the Resident Evil weapons inventory management.
Haha gamer at heart!
Tidy when not in use, and just remove the foam when it is.
might just be what we are working on 👀
Good one. 👍

Couldn’t agree more!
this is a pretty good ad
Thanks! We’ll use it as one in our future advertising campaigns 👍
We were talking about doing that with a cutting kit some day! What a coincidence!
Make a cutout for a tourniquet. If you keep cutting towards yourself with the Skilsaw, you'll need it eventually.
Could do with a first aid kit in the workshop! 👍
Ikea also do a cleat style system for their kitchen units
Definitely going to check that out! 👀
They are amazing. I'm trying to convince my workplace to let me organise our tools in Shadow Foam
Fingers crossed this tips them over the edge 😅

Been thinking of a power tool storage of some kind but never thought of this. 👍
First thing I thought of for the side panels was a dedicated battery panel, of course charger right next to it.
Good call!
Idea for the end blocks a bottle of whisky and some glasses, for finishing a job well done.
Haha thanks Ian appreciate that mate, what’s your tipple?
What are the dimensions of the large and small frames?
70x70cm and 50x50cm
the power tools themselves .. good milwaukee copy?
Shall have to do a side-by-side comparison some day! 👍
It would be cool if you could mount the chargers in a panel next to the outlets, so you can charge with them mounted.
May just do this in an upcoming video!

Very motivational. Makes me wanna organize my tools like that.
Go for it! You won’t regret it! What tools do you have to organise?
@@ShadowFoamMilwaukee tools and Dewalt in some packout we don't have IKEA so I'll have to make the boxes
@@go-toolzreviews with those tools it shouldn’t be a problem!
@@ShadowFoam thanks
Even if the bumpy road, the wheels also advance; Even choppy rivers, the ships navigation.
Great video thank you
Thinking of making your own French cleat?
I hope the portable table saws come here. Great project
Same here buddy!
*I would put Milwaukee tools in the right field and Einhell tools in the left field to match the colour theme* 😂
I like where you're going with this!
Where u put that foam what you cut off? Is what material? Recycle purpose.
We send it to a recycling plant 👌
