Soi 18 has The Maison Hotel and that is really a 5 star hotel, a little more expensive at around $80 a night bit I found it was worth it for all the other amenities they offered, it was really a first class experience from top to bottom, I plan on staying there a few nights next month (at least)
No problem. We may stop by tonight after Thanksgiving dinner. Friday, Boon and I are taking off for the weekend. I should be back Sunday evening. Have a smooth flight
I am thinking about moving there. I am a pro singer guitarist from acoustic beach material to classic rock and more. I am wondering what opportunities are there?
It's somewhat tricky to work here. They won't let you take a job from a Thai singer. You can set up a company and try. You'll need a Thai lawyer to help with that. I'm sorry I can't be more help.
Ya man for sure. I'm thinking about organizing a meetup every other week. I'm sure we'll have one around the holidays. Hopefully you are subscribed. I'll put out a community notice when we figure out some dates.
@@donpdonp Cool man. Let me go talk to the bar manager. I'll put something together soon. Maybe middle of December. Are you here then? I'm thinking I'll start a twice a month thing. Maybe hop around and see new bars and rooftop spots. It will be fun for me. Even if no one shows up. Ha ha.
Went back to cowboy in November 23 to have a look and took the wife for a drink very different from the 80s when I lived there and my regular bar where I used to drink was gone shame.
off topic question: I take it you shoot your videos in 1080p? Not 4K. How is the upload speed/internet in Bangkok - whether in your condo, coffee shop....? Thanks man!
Internet is great in Bangkok. Very fast. I pay $27 a month for really fast fiber optic. I upload a video everyday or every other day. 4k takes forever to edit. Even with fast internet. I put out 4 videos a week. 4k is fine for one video a week.
Those are fun bars once in a while. Great people watching in a wild city. I used to love going to Vegas. Not for the gambling, just for the energy of the city.
What is overcharged? There isn't a meter. The tuk tuk is the most expensive way to get around. But, I know roughly what the fee "should" be. Is it raining? Is it 2am? Are there 1000 tourist trying to get home waiving 1000b notes? If a Grab car is 125b, with a 15 minute wait, I'll offer a taxi driving by, or a tuk tuk 200b, to get moving. I'm fine with paying for convenience. Especially at the biggest tourist spot in town. If the driver wants twice the normal rate, I just walk two feet to the other 5 guys standing by. A person can always stand in the rain and wait for the bus. 18b is the price. If that's too much, a non-A/C bus will be along in 10 minutes for 12b. Myself, I'm fine with 200b
@@vgshwkThe local charge thing has become a myth. My Thai girlfriend calls it the "Sukhumvit price" Trust me, she can't jump in a cab near Terminal 21 and get the meter either. It's just supply and demand. 90% of the time we just order a Grab car and wait as we finish paying the check, etc.. People like to call it a taxi scam. But at the end of the day, it's a $5 taxi ride. Gas still costs about the same as the US. Again, paying $125 in the US for a 10 mile ride is a scam to me. Not paying $5 instead of a metered $4 ride. Who cares about a dollar. If we want to jump in a car, you need to negotiate a price these days. Local's too. If the cab is slow, he can just log onto Grab and make a run. Otherwise he is waiting for a tourist to pay 500b. I would do the same thing as a driver.
Very informative. Thanks
Thank you so much
I miss going to Stellas a lot, hopefully I will be back mid January, it will be one of the first places I go Cheers'

Thanks for the tip Dan. I love Soi 18. A nice tree-lined street
👍🏻
Have a good one
Joe I probably won't make Stella's tonight. Delayed flight if I do would be late

I'll bet things have changed. Still, it's a great city

LOVE the Cowboy Shark Bar.....

I would rather have the tuk tuk driver being unhappy about not overcharging me rather than me being unhappy about being overcharged.

@ all I meant is you had to haggle the charge because he was trying to charge you more than what a local would pay.
