You can't anything to eat that has nutritional value in the states for $6.00. That diet coke and a bag of potato chips would cost you $6.00 here. I'm heading to Thailand next year. I still work full time now but im planning on retireing next year. I'll be 63 years old and I could live off my social security payments that are projected to be about $2000 a month. You give me hope of finally getting out of this rat race for survival in the states. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Safe travels my friend.
I hope the exchange rate stays strong for you. You need an income of 65,000 baht per month to justify your retirement visa in Thailand unless you have the ability to deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account and leave it there for 3 months prior to your renewal each year and 2 months after.
Your lifestyle is truly fabulous and I know many wealthy men who are overworked, too stressed, unhappy, and would love to do what you are doing. Life is to be enjoyed if you can unplug from the societal pressures and create your own path. Wonderful channel
I’ve just turned 29 and realised I could rent out my own home and live somewhere like Thailand! I wanna get £150k saved as well and have dividends pay around £500 per month (4% rule) would be around £1500 between the dividends and rent :)
This is a great and informative video. As a senior living in $1200 per month, it's good to know there are affordable options like Thailand. Thanks for posting.

Interesting I have spent at least 5 years in Thailand and was going to Hua Hin ona regular basis. this is a place I love and in my opinion one of the ebst place to retire in thailand. For the last 5 years I was not able to go to Thailand since I choose to set me up in south america. But thailand is my heart country and will go back there for sure in the next couple of years as soon as all my paperworks for permanent residency in SA is done One point that you could add is yearly cost of air travels, health insurance and so on
I really enjoy your positivity towards life.. Make the most of your time on this planet enjoying life.. I think u get it mate! Coming to Hua Hin Feb-March , Yippee!
Great Video ! I show my friends you can live like a westerner or a Thai in Hua Hin. You can eat at familiar places to the west, or live and eat extremely well on Thai offered food. I do not eat out at all in the USA due to cost, I love all food and Thai is a treat here for me, all that food you got at the vendors for $2.00 I'll take any day over a burger and fries !
Consider carrying about a ten- or 15- foot length of paracord, and 4 or 5 clothes pins for your laundry kit. Stuff dries faster when it's up in the air. I use a rubber sink stopper and wash clothes in the bathroom sink. Usually the shower hose will reach so hot water is available. I also use to travel with a mosquito net and some bankline for set-up over the bed. But that s for India, Sri Lanka and SE Asia in the old days.
Aloha my friend always enjoy your 30 days cost of living. $2 for all that food from the food cart, Hua Hin here I come!!!!! So far Chang Mai. Pattaya, Bangkok and Hua Hin are places I would stay for 30 days. Looking forward to your next location in Thailand. Mahalo
Just spent six weeks around the corner from the castaway, you didn't mention there canibis cafe next to reception 🤣 only discovered your channel when I got back to Bangkok last week , I use bolt and grab taxis, they could have saved you more money, bolt motorbike taxi is less than 1 dollar if you don't mind the danger. Can't wait to return Feb 25.
Who would have thought you could live like a king traveling the world to exotic destinations and even get spa treatments for half of what you could live on in your own country. My favorite is watching you do your laundry for 0.35 cents. I just watch with envy as my monthly bills are 7k before I buy a spoon full of food.
I usually do my laundry in the bathroom sink. The key is to let it soak for awhile. At least 30 minutes to an hour. There are youtube videos how to do it.
Hi Chris not sure if in your plans now you have more time, but as you are on the east coast you may want to travel further down into parachupkirikhan and further to songklha and Chumpon

62, end of mos .. "Soc Sec" and Savings / Interest .. I'm "heading back" to SE Asia, to live in "cheap hotels" and travel, for a cpl yrs .. I'm waiting for spring, for that "Poison Air" quality to improve .. Living off of Street & Restaurant Food will catch up to you, esp if your Older .. You need to find or buy and easily microwave a mix of fresh Veggies (steam in a bowl with a little water & a loose lid) .. If there is a "wonder food" it's Sweet Potato (eat it every day) and eat lots of healthy nuts .. Can't go wrong with a Jar of Peanut Butter (pound for pound its the healthiest protein) .. I work out a lot and Whey Protein Powder is a great source of (cheap) Protein (easy to carry) I'm sure you could find a heathy piece of fish or chicken in a restaurant .. No offense but Your Diet looks Very Unhealthy / Bad from the Vids I've watched .. I'm not a "fanatic but" diet is Huge ..
I just wondered whether you experienced loneliness? Maybe to see you chatting or interviewing a local native or expat now and then. I really do enjoy your vlogs! Thank you Paul in the UK
You're so thorough it's hard to think of new video ideas. How about a video on Visas? The best place to get Visas. The quickest, most efficient way. How to avoid visa problems. I'm sure your advice will be very helpful, as usual!!
Thank you Finally someone who Knows How to Pronounce Hua Hin ! : ) Many Vloggers Mis Pronounce Hua Hin , I Miss Hua Hin very much I could Live there forever ,I chose the Philippines over Thailand , But i am Now rethinking ?

Thanks for showing your costs! Big like! 👍 That's a neat cost saving trick doing your laundry like that. Probably makes clothes last longer as well. Do you have cotton or linen shirts? What about costs to keep your token footprint in the US? Do you use a mail service for an address that scans and shreds your mail?
Aloha, I love the monthly videos, on google maps the hotel comes up as Castaway's 420 hotel, I am a non smoker just wondering if it constantly smells like skunky herb? Thanks
To get there from Phuket it's best to just take a bus if you take bus and train the train only runs at night, It's more difficult making connections and timing so just take the bus.
Maybe I missed it but what s your average airfare costs from place to place and I imagine you try to keep the distances close between destinations for cheaper trips.
Hi Retire and Go have you heard of the Asean Travel Pass from AirAsia? i heard you can take unlimited flights all around Asia...do check it out and let us know!😄..if possible would love to see you do a video on that!
The disadvantages of Danang are There are often typhoons during the monsoon season. which can destroy buildings and trees and may cause an accident. and unable to go out.
perhaps i have missed it previously but a video with visa costs, visa run costs, etc.. anything and everything that money goes to as there could be things that those of us still living elsewhere may not even be thinking or accounting for and then showing it in spreadsheet form or something that shows line items and total cost would be great.. thanks for an overall good video though
Interesting insights into living in Hua HIn. One strange thing to note here are the comments around "running an investment business" buying and selling dividend stocks that requires a $100/month phone internet plan. Using a online broker to buy/sell equities is a simple browser based transaction. Dividends are paid periodically, usually annually or biannually and investing in dividend stocks is not a day trading activity. More common is selecting dividend paying companies as part of a buy and hold strategy. Those running a business trading equities are day traders or swing traders with large trading volumes. If your focus is collecting dividends for income, then earnings growth and dividend stability are important factors, not necessarily the stock price. In my case, my retirement earnings are primarily from corporate bond and private credit holdings that pay attractive rates of interest with a low risk profile. Trading equities is a higher risk option that creates undesirable stress for a retiree.
Another good one. Can't wait for where next. Laos maybe? As a single dude I don't see you posting much about 'entertainment' costs or such distractions. I know personally half my budget goes to keeping distracted 😅😊
Don't forget the new Thai tax laws (I'm sure you haven't), 180 days maximum stays (that would be 3 x 60 day visa for you) after that you'd become tax resident 😱
Yes Keen sandals are my go to. Saw imitations for 1000b not sure how durable those are to the real thing though. Also was hoping for the 30 day total summary of costs.
Watching this crying. My dream is dead here so much stress for what? I am miserable! Been to Thailand know how great it is. Making plans to sell my house and leave I am 45 and feel 70. Can’t take this pressure anymore. I can buy 3 homes in Asia with the money from my one house sale. I could literally sell my house, buy a condo and retire.

That's a neat cost saving trick doing your laundry like that. Probably makes clothes last longer as well.
Do you have cotton or linen shirts?
What about costs to keep your token footprint in the US?
Do you use a mail service for an address that scans and shreds your mail?
Great question

To get there from Phuket it's best to just take a bus if you take bus and train the train only runs at night, It's more difficult making connections and timing so just take the bus.

Some Online banks have ATM fee free overseas
Travel Visa cards have no overseas transaction fees
Maybe I missed it but what s your average airfare costs from place to place and I imagine you try to keep the distances close between destinations for cheaper trips.

perhaps i have missed it previously but a video with visa costs, visa run costs, etc.. anything and everything that money goes to as there could be things that those of us still living elsewhere may not even be thinking or accounting for and then showing it in spreadsheet form or something that shows line items and total cost would be great.. thanks for an overall good video though
Thailand will be starting a charge in 2025
I have not seen any this year
Interesting insights into living in Hua HIn.
Good points ! I like your investing ideas
Another good one. Can't wait for where next. Laos maybe? As a single dude I don't see you posting much about 'entertainment' costs or such distractions. I know personally half my budget goes to keeping distracted 😅😊
Good point
It’s all here haha
This is a travel and food channel though :-)
The 60-day visa will suit you , and it will reduce your flight cost . These videos are inspiring and real .
I agree with you !
He pays $2 for a meal and $15 for a hotel room, while I can’t even buy lunch for that back home. Someone tell me why I’m still here? 😂
I totally understand!
Please go spend a month in Southeast Asia ok? Just get a feel
Perfect! Ty
Thank you for your time
Don't forget the new Thai tax laws (I'm sure you haven't), 180 days maximum stays (that would be 3 x 60 day visa for you) after that you'd become tax resident 😱
Good point
Rotate out every six months
@ day of arrival and departure count as full days too
Yes Keen sandals are my go to. Saw imitations for 1000b not sure how durable those are to the real thing though.
Also was hoping for the 30 day total summary of costs.
And cheap fresh food at basement of bluport mall
Keens are very good quality for sure!
Living in Australia you need Deep Deep Pockets ....So over living here....Thanks for your Video..
I totally understand
My home country too

Watching this crying. My dream is dead here so much stress for what? I am miserable! Been to Thailand know how great it is. Making plans to sell my house and leave I am 45 and feel 70. Can’t take this pressure anymore. I can buy 3 homes in Asia with the money from my one house sale. I could literally sell my house, buy a condo and retire.
I totally understand
I was right there with you
Be at peace ok?
Plan, invest, prepare to change your life in 2025 !
I used to have banana bread at aloha stadium
