35 years later and this tune still rocks. I remember its release very well as a 18 year old raver. Loved this tune then and still love it now. Big up to all old skool crew, peace and love xx
This masterpiece was made by Phil and Paul Hartnol, two brothers from Sevenoaks in Kent. They made it in their bedroom when they were attending Wilderness School for Boys. We all used to go to a Youth Club called Raileys in Sevenoaks. Lovely guys. Banging tune when it came out and still not lost its touch. Amazing work.
I'm 23 and I love all forms of electronica. From old school house, techno, trance, acid, jungle, etc to newer drum and bass, dubstep, electro, etc. Music evolves. But there is no need to forget the classics. Either way age is irrelevant, all that matter is the tune gets you off your feet and moving your body. Rave is in the soul!

I came here to listen to this great tune and found all the sort of amazing people I used to rave to this with. The nights where you'd be out raving in some field in the middles of nowhere completely off your face, lost your friends and end up being adopted by some people you've just met sharing ciggies and water. You'd then see your friends stumbling around and you'd make a massive group, dancing, sweating happy and, just for that night, totally FREE. I wish I could go back just for one night to feel that feeling and hear these tunes and meet you ravers again. Thanks for the good vibes :)

London Astoria, 1990. DJ slows the last track to a stop and plays this from the start. A wide green laser slowly pans up and down through the dry ice across a sea of raised hands. The bass kicks in, my neurons are exploding cos I'm tripping balls. The track starts proper at 1:39 and I'm blasted into space, dancing with eyes closed, all worries forgotten. I take a peak around me and all I see is smiles and flashing lights. I didn't know then that it would be one of the best memories of my life.

Being 17 and allowed to stay out all night, finding a decent rave via some shady bloke standing on a corner in Camden (Biology/Back to the Future/Sunrise), getting past the bouncers with my speed and e's. Then spending 8 hours dancing fucked out of my face, the come down was brutal, but I never felt that alive ever again. I'm just so glad I was lucky enough to be there. this tune and Belfast are two of the best dance tunes ever produced, I remember being 17 in Manchester when this originally came out and me and two older dj mates from my sound engineering / music production course used to skip our college course on a wednesday afternoon to go and dj on a pirate radio station in Moss Side (Frontline Radio Soul) this was always our opening track every week, Wednesday afternoon was always really quiet in the college cos most people were tuning into our show someone smoking a big riff somewhere! great times & quality tune.
One of the best anthems of90's.Best decade not only for my life but the whole dance music.Love it!It also brings me goosebumps a mix of dance, ambient and both chill out music!✌️🇬🇷😁
Just clicked on this for the first time in a long while - and got the BIGGEST shiver down my spine I can ever recall. The memory - New Years Eve @ Alexandra Palace, happily chatting & buzzing away with friends, and then this track just cuts through the air. We all run into the main hall and, well, you can guess the rest!! Happy times.
After a mashed up crazy night, chilling in the local country park, sun shining, smoke rising, car stereo on, orbital chime taking you away.... What a time. X
The lyrics “Don’t believe the lies, trouble, noise or fuss. That ain’t the way for the most of us” (in an American accent) with this epic mix. Can never find. ❤
Epic tune! Takes me back to them days of going house to house picking up your mates knowing you and them are going on a journey of sound with a few 🕊. So many memories of this track. ❤️

I met them 4 years ago as had backstage passes for a festival they were headlining. They signed my copy of the Yellow Album (or Green Album if you prefer ) and we chatted for a good while as I work for radio. Phil told me they got into electronica through hearing bands, being fascinated by the sounds the machines made and then going out and trying to procure something similar. He was evidently pleased when I told him Chime had exactly that same effect on me at 15 years old and began my lifelong love for electronic music and especially Orbital (I'm now 43). True pioneers as well as being very personable chaps. I love them and their music and feel lucky to have grown up when I did. One love!
Rin Tin Tin : Back in 1980s I produced Solaris, a radio series featured new music and electrical produced pieces, this would have fit perfectly into programming.
Remember hearing this when it came out, I was 19, it literally stopped me in my tracks...I had to find it and buy! Also got hold of chime 2 later, hypnotic and simply brilliant 👏
i remember having an outer body experience at one of Orbitals gigs.the sound and light blended like no -other show ,sublime.one of the best nights of my life.EVER!!!!!!
How does a vacuum exists containing a pressure system without any solid physical separation between the two? The vacuum itself must also require containment. The claim that opposing pressure systems can maintain their respective properties without solid separation is idiotic. It defies applied, observable objective reality and yet it is professed to impressionable children to be truth of their origin and existence. It's child abuse to rob children of their psychological and emotional foundation by imbuing beliefs into them that contradict their common sense. Gas pressure requires containment, yet in the case of Earth, cult priests of pseudo science are preaching a belief in something that defies reality. I can't find any practical demonstrations for this claim, just dishonest illogical and zealous muppets that push it.

Music-The knowledge of life. Its all related in someway or another. 60s Motown,70s Disco,80s Electronic age, Electro Hip Hop,House the use of samples,90s Drum n Bass until shite today.
This is crazy. I’m a big music fan and dj on a semi regular basis, in my late 20’s. I’ve just started my new job at an art school(which I went too) and in the first year hall there are these big drawers full of records which have been there over a decade so I have been told. I kid you not first 10 or 20 records I pull out I found this I couldn’t believe it.Big up orbital!
Lawrence I'm 62 today......seem to remember jumpin about to to this at the Brixton academy-I think- we were definitely in Brixton. Stopped all the nonsense about dace music not being music once and for all in one track....listen to that samplig, quite brilliant. Loves xx
All a can remember was tripping on acid and hearing this blasting out the speakers a couldnt see anyone for smoke and strobes all you could hear was shouts of go on!!!! Brilliant tune just sums up our generation. 😁😁😁.

A field in Surrey, a club in L.A., a beach party in Goa, late at a mates place, 3am after a session or anytime over the last 30 years just 'cos you want to. Play it baby.
Ah! I remember getting this on vinyl in the months coming up to my Leaving Cert, was 17. Loved it! This kind of music was so new, never heard anything like it!
This tune was made with a cassette recorder and cost something like 80p to make. By far one the best tunes to ever roam this planet and galaxies far far away.
I was a Indie/alternative music fan in the 80s and 90s, yet always had a soft spot for good electronic/dance tunes. Loved Orbital, Leftfield, The Orb, Autechre etc......
What a great comment about just discovering Orbital. So excited more people know about them. I’m grateful I’ve known about this band since the early 90’s. Wish I could see them live!
Fuck, 25 years old this month (Dec 14). Hearing this is like speedily flicking through a massive photo album of the past and of the good times. Many memories. :)

I am 62 and I,m never too old to appreciate Orbital. The "yellow" album is sublime.
Its hard to describe what this record meant when it was released. It changed everything, changed the mood, upped the ante. From one set of styles, this came out and re-set the compass. It was inspiring. It sounds absurd today, but the feeling was that nothing was impossible in terms of new music being released and spreading everywhere. All the rules and artificial boxes seemed to be dissolving. Artists all over were making strange music and releasing it and selling it. Did you know that the original release of "Chime" was mastered from a cassette? Even the means of making music was changing; all the rules were being thrown out, and not to the detriment of the music, but to its improvement, an increase in the number of voices, releases and people with ideas being heard. This was finally "it". The music industry was finished, and nothing would ever stop people from hearing what was out there ever again. And then... it stopped.

Donimusic For sure; its an absurd idea that anything is possible in terms of new pop music. Popular music is absolutely awful today, and its getting worse.
and now there is fookin dubstep.
ya it stopped because they bullied all our people.
It stopped because TPTB cant stand to see people happy.
It stopped because of greedy people eating all the pie and people becoming soo pretentious. They dont like the mantra of freedom!
I agree in general pop music is terrible today. It's because they are trying to nail a profitable sound rather than an original and potentially game changing one.

this tune and Belfast are two of the best dance tunes ever produced, I remember being 17 in Manchester when this originally came out and me and two older dj mates from my sound engineering / music production course used to skip our college course on a wednesday afternoon to go and dj on a pirate radio station in Moss Side (Frontline Radio Soul) this was always our opening track every week, Wednesday afternoon was always really quiet in the college cos most people were tuning into our show someone smoking a big riff somewhere! great times & quality tune.
nice one mate

omg can't believe I came across this. Listening 20 November 2024 thank you so much 💖
Just clicked on this for the first time in a long while - and got the BIGGEST shiver down my spine I can ever recall. The memory - New Years Eve @ Alexandra Palace, happily chatting & buzzing away with friends, and then this track just cuts through the air. We all run into the main hall and, well, you can guess the rest!! Happy times.
Totally ✌
After a mashed up crazy night, chilling in the local country park, sun shining, smoke rising, car stereo on, orbital chime taking you away.... What a time. X

The lyrics “Don’t believe the lies, trouble, noise or fuss. That ain’t the way for the most of us” (in an American accent) with this epic mix.

This track still gives me tingly rushes, and I'm nearly 40 and haven't done E for years!!
Three and a bit decades later and it never fails to put a smile on my face as I reminisce, all those memories!
It's like,taking a walk down memorylane..45 and still goosebumps🙊🙊🙏🙏😙🙏
Nádherná vzpomínka na mladí 😊🇨🇿
I had the same with Paul, really personable and spent valuable time talking. Top fella :)

I remember this song. Came out when I was in school. Absolutely loved it back then still do now. Pure classic
If you were going to stick a tune on a rocket to a far off galaxy somewhere to tell them we are here, this is the one.
You are a poet my friend.
Jogo Lock instead we sent them "Johnny B Goode" "Melancholy Blues" and "Dark Was The Night" 😆
Hahaha perfect !!!
Yaaaaa...... Boom boom boom
I’ve waited 29 years to see Orbital and today is the day at Seismic words cant describe how excited I am
Driving around DC /Nova searching for the place with the promise of sick beats and intella beams. Looking out across the floor and seeing nothing but joy, sweat and unity. Was a magical time full of hope for what we could be
Omg timeless classic 🎉❤
why...have I lived on this earth so long.....and haven't listened to Orbital..............
I wish I was hearing them for the first time again! lol ,Recommend Portishead if you've not discovered them yet.
This is one of the first records I ever learnt to mix with. What a classic!
me too! :)
Yeeeeew!
Mix this with krawerk radio activity
Even 27 years has gone and still a BANGING TRACK!
Even almost 34 years (it's NYE) 😉

Odd way to look at time - as it going. I prefer to view it as accumulating.
Absolute banger! Early 20s when this arrived. Takes me back to better times. Music of today can't LOOK at this, let alone touch it! Rave on...
Fell in love with this band when I heard this for the first time in the Astoria one saturday night. Such a top uplifting tune.
I was just in the most wonderful place for the last 10mins listening to this song while my teenage years flashed before my eyes.. Couldn't move, hands frozen, mouth open, eyes glazed. Words can't do justice to the emotions
Absolutely one the best songs to play when the sun rises after an all night dance party!
FLAVOUR cliffingham❤
Music-The knowledge of life. Its all related in someway or another. 60s Motown,70s Disco,80s Electronic age, Electro Hip Hop,House the use of samples,90s Drum n Bass until shite today.
This is crazy. I’m a big music fan and dj on a semi regular basis, in my late 20’s. I’ve just started my new job at an art school(which I went too) and in the first year hall there are these big drawers full of records which have been there over a decade so I have been told. I kid you not first 10 or 20 records I pull out I found this I couldn’t believe it.Big up orbital!
@Marcus Murison Would you consider mixing in a bit of Dellia Darbyshire ?
Lawrence I'm 62 today......seem to remember jumpin about to to this at the Brixton academy-I think- we were definitely in Brixton. Stopped all the nonsense about dace music not being music once and for all in one track....listen to that samplig, quite brilliant. Loves xx
All a can remember was tripping on acid and hearing this blasting out the speakers a couldnt see anyone for smoke and strobes all you could hear was shouts of go on!!!! Brilliant tune just sums up our generation. 😁😁😁.
I remember listening to this song from my big brother’s cd collection but that was over 25 years ago now! This techno electronicia song still sticks with me today!
Im 51 and still love it
A field in Surrey, a club in L.A., a beach party in Goa, late at a mates place, 3am after a session or anytime over the last 30 years just 'cos you want to. Play it baby.
I remember buying this version when it was released. This track is as good as it gets. One of the greatest dance anthems of all time.
Probably the best track ever. An absolute masterpiece. ❤❤
.... still sounds amazing 31 years later
PROPA OLDSKOOL, big respect to the E, S, P, Crew thanks for the world dance, nikki blackmarket, dreamscapes helterskelter's all of it, bless
Timeless and Groundbreaking.... we all know where we were, and what we were on when we heard this for the first time...
Ha ha.
Craig i remember those doves too...)))
And it plays at the wrong speed to what they wanted as their dads tape deck was out of whack
I was a Indie/alternative music fan in the 80s and 90s, yet always had a soft spot for good electronic/dance tunes. Loved Orbital, Leftfield, The Orb, Autechre etc......
This is what introduced me to the new century at midnight back in 2000, what a tune to see in the millennium!!!! A timeless classic for all ravers!
37 years later I still get goosebumps listening to all the Frankie Kmuckes tunes. Give me Telepathy or Elevation right now please! Or Legends on a Saturday night when we all thought we was above that after because of the shovel....then it all went shitty.
I wish I could hit dance floor at that time! Simply fantastic!
Listening and reading your comment I'm crying for a lost youth. Man, we had it good. ❤️
12 years since my last post.... still listening to this masterpiece. No track takes me back to that halcyon era more than Chime. Possibly the greatest dance tune ever!!
this tune will never die. the reason so so so many people fell in love with electronic music. an absolute classic.
Seen the guys again recently perform in Glasgow. Absolute magic. Remember hearing there set on radios for Norwich sound city. Was hooked after that.
