It took me years to realize that "808 State" was named after the TR-808 drum machine. The name of this particular song, "Pacific State", always made me think the band name referred to the State of Hawaii, whose area code is 808....and "808 State" was like a Hawaii state of mind (i.e. sun, ocean, surfing, chilling, etc.). I over-analyzed like I always do!

One Saturday night when I was 11 years old, I was skateboarding for hours and somehow drifted into a warehouse in Houston's old downtown Chinatown. All of these hipster types were dancing. Witnessing that event changed my outlook on dancing. They danced like no one was watching. It was amazing. This song was playing.

Even people who weren't into rave music felt this song. It's one of those songs which emotionally makes you feel like your visiting different worlds. If you were in the rave scene back then, it was truly surreal, I mean gigantic. Forget the likes of Glastonbury, that is nothing compared to the rave scene back in the day. RIP Andy Barker, Pacific State soars for eternity.

I still can feel the chill that ran down my spine when I first heard this in 1989, when I was 21. It was a bar in Maidstone, Kent called Gabriel’s. This being the original is the best version. A really good era for House music and in all honesty, it never has been truly repeated since. The vibe, the people and of course the atmosphere was so good. So glad I bought a copy of this, along with all the other hundreds of vinyl I bought!

I studied classical music at a professional level and went to raves in the mid 1980's. This is a timeless classic and takes me back to the vibe in the mid 1980's. Wow! great track!

I first heard this at a warehouse party in Accy in 89. Was tripping that night, so many great dance tunes about but this was something else! I can remember the sound of people's feet sliding on the concrete floor dancing to it. Whenever I hear this track it takes me right back to that night.

This was originally released in 1989, it truly was ahead of it's time.
Back in the day if you were fortunate enough to be old enough to hear this it was pure house music class and still to this day to those in the know its pure class from a old house music lover in 1988 still till this day , respect and love .

@@PROTEK123 Very true! To be honest I find it scary to go out these days with all the knife crime/acid attacks going on. Not to mention young people my age are constantly worried about what they look like and posing. My mum tells me at raves no one cared about the way another person was dancing/what they looked like - it was about having a good time without judgement. It's a shame I couldn't experience it for myself but at least my mum, yourself and many others had a great time

1989 to us was like 1969 to the hippies.. we reached a cultural peak and the powers didn't like it. By the mid 90s Draconian laws were passed that effectively made it ILLEGAL for a movement like this to happen again, notably the Criminal Justice Bill, after this you couldn't play music loud in public.

It was 2009 and my mom had a CD of old house music that she’d play in the car and this was one of the tracks in the CD and my personal favorite out of all of them, I used to always beg her to put it on and I’d do a little dance to it. I am currently 15 now and this is kinda nostalgic for me

My Dad introduced me to this on one of the old 'Creamfields Anthems' Cd's about 15 years ago or so (back when I was like 5). He says I used to beg him to play the 'bird song' wherever we went in the car. Still to this day I can't think of a more relaxing house tune

This song is absurd, especially when you find out it's from the 80's, due to the level of synthesizers and mixes used. This is explicit in the part from 3:05 to 3:29, in the highlight in the last three seconds of this part that the effect of the music in reverse fits perfectly.

Heard this tune for the first time in a bus when i was about 11 years old heading home from amusement park back in summer 1995, it was such a cool feeling hearing a beat with nature sounds and that base in the backround while just looking out the window passing through central Gothenburg,Sweden.
