Christopher Judge, a black man, is the voice and actor of Kratos. Personally, I think the right person should be chosen for the job, and it should not be always based on race
I completely agree with you as we know they don’t always replace actors. For instance, the voice actor for samurai Jack, Phil Lamar is a black voice actor, but he’s playing an Asian man and nobody has a problem with that and I think he’s actually said it best their voices as long as you can portray the voice convincingly without being some sort of racial stereotype then it should be a problem and the reason a lot of these people did these castings wasn’t because they were racist or anything but becauseit saves money to just use people that you already have on the payroll instead of trying to hire more talent and spend more money. That’s where a lot of these shows come from when they are selecting voices. Now, if it’s a new character that hasn’t been voiced then sure try to get somebody who matches the ethnicity of of that character if you can but if the better person for the job happens to be of another race, then select the person that’s the best for the job.
Yeah lmao, most yakuza fans have been relatively chill about it. Though if YongYea voiced in a much more popular franchise like Persona he’d be cooked 💀
The whole voice actor needs to match the race of the character thing is so stupid. Who the fuck cares if the actor voicing a black character isn't black? The focus should be on if the actor can actually do the voice. You're absolutely on point with that whole thing. Like you said. What good did switching actors for Cleveland do? All the new actor did was copy the old actor. Bunch of bullshit. And Phil LaMarr is a phenomenal voice actor. He's done voices for SO many non black characters. Hell, he's voiced characters that aren't even human! I don't see anyone bitching about that. Because he has TALENT and RANGE. Don't get me wrong. Sometimes the actor being the same race as the character they're voicing is great and all, but when does it stop being about talent and just about pandering??
The logic of always needing the voice actor to match the race or any other trait of the character and only be limited to characters that look like them is basically segregation and another form of discrimination. These people advocating for this narrative forget that this standard would also apply to not just them as voice actors, but to the minorities that they are trying to protect and help. Minorities won’t be able to have the freedom to voice any character they want so as long as their voice fits the character because they’ll also be restricted to voicing characters that just so happened to have the same ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or skin color as them. ProZD learned that the hard way. This flawed and harmful standard for voice acting will only come with a bunch of horrible, horrible consequences. They are trying so hard to push inclusivity that they loop back into being the opposite of inclusivity and fairness. They’re just becoming their worst enemies. I don’t see how their mentality is supposed to help anyone.
I'll never trust YoungYea ever again after the "Cyberpunk 2077 lives up to hype" fiasco. The dude gave a glowing review of the game on release, ignoring all of the game's glaring issues because he didn't want to be shouted down by CDPR's fanbase like one other early reviewer did. 48 hours later and people were starting to realize what a broken mess Cyberpunk actually was and Yong was happy to capitalize on this with videos calling out all the bugs and issues others were having. Yet, he never once went back to comment on or amend his original video, which at that point clearly did not reflect the product until several months later. He left the video up to milk every last drop of add revenue, only to try to excuse the video months later that he was simply "in denial over the game's quality." The dude exposed himself to be apart of the same hypocrisy as the rest of the video game media. Why people still bother to listen to this guy when there are so many other alternatives now boggles my mind.
@@unknownlogicman9399He still has an audience because at the end of the day he's nothing more than a shill ragebaiter who is usually very careful to never have actual opinions.
Yeah he swiftly hid that video and also remember the fallout 76 duffel bag video where before Reddit were complaining he did an unboxing of it saying things like it would be a useful bag I can see myself using it etc then Reddit got mad it was nylon then he did a 180 and did a “call out” style video. Seriously Yong is just fake. He just comments on whatever the current popular opinion is.
I remember lol. It’s funny how he tore Bethesda and Fallout 76, but praised Cyberpunk and CDPR at launch. At least Bethesda had the spine to put out that open beta so people knew Fallout 76 was gonna be awful at launch. But CDPR? No, they tried to cover everything up until the last minute.
The irony of him criticizing so many voice actors in games, thinking he can do better, and then blocking all criticism. Sega got themselves in a messy situation, the voice acting is really bad.
Dude couldn’t stop crying about Chris Prat being Mario. And now he is crying about him being the bad VA. Karma is a b*. “He f*led around and found out”.
Get the right person to do the right job. Ethnicity does not matter to me the character does...wish these studios and companies would keep it it simple.
If VA's have to match the race of the character, this means no more fantasy movies or animes cause unless I've been living under a rock, dragons, elves, gnomes, fairies, golems, cat ladies and so on can't really be casted cause they don't exist right ? RIGHT ?
well being voiced by the "right race" might be the reason, i think its more to do with pay. less seasoned VAs get less money, and thats how it is in that industry IIRC. so forgoing a veteran that wouldve no doubt cost atleast 1.5-2.0x what likely went to Yong for the role.
That was exactly what I thought too. He just screams Diversity Hire, because it certainly cannot be his “talent.” Dude sounds like he’s just reading aloud. No acting.
As you mentioned LaMarr is an absolute legend, really love his work as well. Another one of my personal top tier voice actors Kevin Michael Richardson who has voiced a plethora of different characters throughout the years, one of which is most notably is for his role as Shredder in the later Nickelodeon TMNT episodes. He was so perfect in that role and was one of the few VA's to stand up when the entire Apu and Cleveland incident happened to say how much he was against them having to retire the characters and have them replaced purely due to race and not due to talent. Also the absolute legends that was James Avery had already defined that role from back in the 80's with the very first TMNT episode. Kevin had to pick up the mantle and bring life to the role due to James Avery sadly passing away over a decade ago now. James was also an extremely talented Black voice actor who was playing an Asian man. Both of these man have great history of voice work, to think that there would be people out there wanting them to drop these roles due to race is disgusting. they earned their roles through sheer determination and talent and will forever be iconic in them. With all of that said, isn't it a tad funny that Yong Yea isn't even Japanese, he's Korean. Those two countries couldn't be further apart which makes it all even more ridiculous with all of their sad attempts at virtue signaling. I should I know I actually used to live in Japan and spent some time in Korea as well.
Right on the money. Funny enough Kevin ended up replicating James' voice to a T when they brought back the 86 Shredder in the 2012 TMNT series. It was almost like James Avery had been reincarnated.
The ONLY times I believe race/ethnicity should play a major role in a character if the time/setting, or predetermined characters is already existing.l is live action. Avoiding "blackface" and "yellowface". Having a bunch of Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese take roles of Japanese men/women and say clearly American accents when speaking Japanese is a "the audience can't tell the difference" when they can instead hire fluent Japanese actors and not follow the "Asians all look the same". But voice acting(especially when it comes to languages) has NOTHING to do with ethnicities, it is a vocal approach, not a visual approach.
Another honorable mention who I think is a phenomenal voice actor: Noshir Dalal. He voices Sekiro, Charles Smith in Red Dead Redemption 2, and Rain in Mortal Kombat.
You know what, just a quick search on top of my memory, "Richard Armitage" could easily be a better VA for Kiryu. He is the actor that voiced Trevor Belmont in Netflix Castlevania.
One of my personal favorite examples of Phil Lamar’s range is that he plays both Sig and Vegar in the game Jak 3. Sounding like multiple people it’s always necessary for a great performance. But that man has an actual gift.
This might sound crazy, but I think Keith David might be a fit. Man can also sing, so there's the karaoke fix. Btw, Darryl Kurylo isn't in the VA industry anymore, so that might also be another reason why he didn't reprise his role as Kiryu.
@@undyne1Well, I was mainly referring to the Darryl quote that guy used in his comment, which is a response he gave to a fan on twitter. So instead of Darryl *only* saying that he supports that ideology and nothing more, he could've said something like "While I appreciate your kind words, me reprising the role of Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza: Like a Dragon was unfortunately a one-off gig, as I retired from voice acting period shortly after it released. However, (insert what deviantknight7009 quoted here verbatim)". Oh, and just in case something happens to his comment, this is the tweet that dk7009 quoted: 'I am just as happy to have discovered that the role will be portrayed by a dedicated actor who more closely matches Kiryu's culture. I strongly approve.'.
@@yvarGL Ah. In that case, I have no idea. I just heard he doesn't do voice acting anymore, or at least actively. Would be the first time an actor retires without saying anything.
I think it's unprofessional how YongYea responded by blocking people. Honestly, this does make him look bad and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get any major jobs. I 100% agree that ethnicity based casting is racists in itself is and it's creating a lot of missed opportunities.
The whole VA should play the color of that characters skin is dumb because they can apply to any character of gender, age etc. For example Tara strong would be sexist and agist because she voices tons kid characters and young male kid characters like Ben 10 Raven and Timmy turner
You said a lot of what of what i wanted to say. It was very obvious to me why they casted him. Sega america has been doing things like this in their games for a few years.
Even if it was a race casting thing, there are still well established Asian voice actors besides Yong like Andrew Kishino and Eric Bauza or if we wanna keep within the the youtube sphere Sung Won Cho aka ProZd are better VA choice for Kiryu than Yong. Honestly if they wanted a person of color to voice Kiryu it should've been Noshir Dalal, he has that base and timber that suits Kiryu.
Can I just say that I'm glad you covered this because a lot of TH-camrs that were doing this are right-wing grifters and I didn't want to hear what they had to say. You were professional, sensible and unbiased, unlike those clowns.
It can work tho. Like saying Dante's Japanese dub is not cringe. You're the same mentality as this companies trying to cast race to fit the character if you say something like that but Yong didn't do a good job as Kiryu not gonna lie.
I like how you present your opinions and info. I watched a different video about Youg doing the voice for Kiryu. The other video was full of venom and sass, basically a rage baiting video. I didn't really judge Yong's acting. From the examples I heard, I don't think his voice fits the character. When he is talking kinda monotone, it almost works, but any other tone it just sounds like a young person... and Yong Yea. No hate towards Yong, but I'm gonna play the game with the Japanese dub.
Yongyea just blocked me on Twitter for no reasons haven’t said a word to him or anything when I just deleted my Twitter came back and the next he blocked me even though his voice of kiryu sounds awful and trash and doesn’t fit the role of kiryu when kiryu is in his 50s and plus his voice of kiryu sounds like he’s in his 20s definitely going to switch Japanese when the game comes out next year in 2024 I’m sorry but his voice of kiryu sounds awful and horrible like why did they freaking replace darryel with yongyea when Darryel is the perfect voice of kiryu and sounds older and mature
Honestly when you get into these spaces, you open yourself up to criticism. Especially if you criticize other companies. You can take it one of two ways: You can ignore it, or you can see it and take it to make yourself better.
I Believe that Nowadays you have to possess an open mind, more so if you work as a Voice-actor, The Role of Kiryu Kazuma is one of a strong, brave, kind-hearted man who always finds himself in troubles of the ones he cares about and always manages to solve them, he's an altruist and some of these qualities have to be matched by the voice we listen, Kuroda does this flawlessly, Yong not so much, for now
It's turning into another RE4R issue where, for some reason, voice actors are hired for their race rather than their talent. I can't grasp why RGG did not just bring back Darryl Kurylo....Y7 proved Darryl has the talent! Why....
The major dismissal of this I've seen is that no one play the game in English, but 7/LAK and the Judgment games have really reset the standard for the English dubs of the games. I absolutely loved that Kiryu's original VA and he sounded so epic. I absolutely can't believe Sega ignored the original VA and went with a TH-cam influencer... whose not even ProZD (only saying this because ProZD is a VA who has a TH-cam channel for fun; I REMEMBER when YongYea posted about starting Voice Actor lessons).
Troy Baker imo is one if not the most talented voice actor of all time. I honestly thought Mark Hamill voiced the Joker in Origins since he did all the others and I thought no one else could do it as well as him But nope Troy did it in origins. Completely shocked me when I found that out. You could literally just hire Troy to voice all the characters for your show or game and no one would ever notice they were all voiced by one guy he's just that good.
Ikr? Sega should've hired him to play Majima's English voice in Yakuza 7 instead of Matt Mercer. Y'know, considering that Mark Hamill was English Majima in PS2 Yakuza 1, and how spot on Troy's M.H. Joker voice was in that game.
@@stevenbishop1782 Well tbf, I haven't played Batman: Arkham Origins in years. And when I last did, I was doing so with my Dad on the PS3 we shared, but not before we played the Arkhams that came before it. I also don’t own that PS3 or live with my parents anymore either, nor do I have a PC powerful enough to run it (don't ask about the 360 or Wii U, as I gave up on Microsoft consoles a year before A.O. released, and still haven’t looked back 11 years after I made that decision. And like most of the planet, I’ve never owned a Wii U). But from what I remember when I was playing B:AO with my old man, I don't THINK that was the case? Either way, if Sega went with Troy over Matt, they could've asked him to do his M.H. Joker impression throughout the whole game, but not go full force unless it's stuff like the Majima & Saejima boss fight that's in Chapter 12 of Yakuza 7.
This isn’t even his first time in the yakuza series. He was the final boss in the Kaito Files for Lost Judgment. He actually wasn’t bad there I think but yea he doesn’t fit Kiryu. I’d rather have him playing a minor character than just cutting him out
Yes! And elves, they can only be voiced by elves! And animorphic creatures need to be voiced by real animals Any handicapped character better be portrayed by an actor with the same handicap Errr specialty or handy capability
The only time I think race/ethnicity should play a role is if the fluency is needed. Having a fluent Japanese speaker would likely be a Japanese man. Having a fluent American english speaker likely will be from United States or maybe Canada. With some exceptions from UK and Australia and New Zealand. Picture this, if a game was made by Sega and it has Captain America, and they dub the voice into English. If you got the game and you hear Captain American speaking english with a clear Japanese accent, with Bruce, Tony, and everyone else. It will be off putting. Because they need fluent English speakers from the states for the characters. Same goes with Battlefront 2 2017. They hired people fluent in Japanese who are Japanese to dub the game to be more approachable for a Japanese audience. But guess what we also have voice actors meant to take a role to be approachable for an audience(Like a Dragon) and voice acting to protray a role written(Samurai Jack). Like a Dragon english would basically need fluent English speakers to make it approachable for those who want English. I don't hate or love YongYea, his VA doesn't make me think brilliance or shitty(because I have heard really shitting VA work) but I am not a professional, and I think he is taking a role like everyone else. It is the directors job to make sure they do well. If the director decides "yep this take works" it is also shared. But this is my take. Please don't kill me
Honestly, if you're criticizing other companies for your own gain, you'd better take criticism well in return. This is honestly a pathetic performance on YongYea's part. I don't care how popular you are, you are not above criticism in any way, shape or form.
Kaji will obviously be more likable in this situation because Ichiban is a new character, he's THE voice for Ichiban. Can you imagine if Kaji's the one who got the role of Kiryu?, sure he got better range than Yong but there will be a good amount of people who will hate it, because it's a recast, and recast sucks dude. Like 9 times out 10 recasting breaks immersion, and this is definitely one of em, recasting is a nigh impossible job no matter how good the new cast is. But all that being said, the least a studio could do is to hire a professional to do an important character.
You're the only person whos covering this who doesn't want to make me rip both my eyes and ears out. Personally I don't think Yong is that terrible as kiryu but Im the kind of person who would play with the Japanese dub anyway. that being said as someone who casually watches Yongs videos I was a bit taken aback hearing how he handled criticism of his voice work considering his past criticism of Chris Pratts role as mario. And the thing is I completely agree with Yong about that and I wouldn't have an issue with this if he was able to be fair and take the criticism of his role the same way he could dish it out. Like my guy have some self awareness.
this video is slightly better then the ones that alex did (the guy who covers fan boys) because you actually showed the tweet except the guy at 8:00 who you took at face value
I don’t know if it was already mentioned but regarding Robbie Daymond: he already voices Zhao in Yakuza like a dragon. But I’m with you on that one. Robbie has an insane range. I also want to point out his performance in Persona 5. He was brilliant as Akechi even though he’s not that age. His “young” voice sounds natural.
Unfortunately for us it looks like Darryl subscribes to the strange ideology that a VA needs to match the characters they play "I am just as happy to have discovered that the role will be portrayed by a dedicated actor who more closely matches Kiryu's culture. I strongly approve". I wonder what they would do to have someone play an Aztec or Alien
7:45-7:52 - Actually no, that Kiryu skin in Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is paid DLC. Nor is there a complete edition with said skin on the disc for the player to either equip right away, or equip after they've done something like beat the game's story mode for the first time. Besides that, I agree. Kaiji doing double duty as both English Ichiban and Kiryu, or having Robbie officially be the new English Kiryu would've been much better choices. And neither men are my top choice to replace Darryl. Who is? Well, despite being nine years older than both Takaya and Darryl, I think that somebody like Keith David would've been the perfect English Kiryu, and here's my reasons why: 1. Keith's normal voice sounds as cool as Takaya's one. 2. Keith is able to display emotion and range on par with Takaya, imo. 3. Keith has voiced at least one character who's had his own struggles and losses beforehand, that being Goliath from Disney's Gargoyles. Coincidentally, both Goliath and Kiryu have had female detectives that are much younger than they are as love interests, too. And finally, 4. Unlike a certain someone we know, the man can ACTUALLY sing, as demonstrated by The Princess and the Frog's villain song!
@@RandomBlackGamer What's besides the point, me correcting you on your mistake, or my own Darryl Kurylo replacement idea? Either way, my apologies if I offended you or anything. Especially since I found your vid through the algorithm, and have never heard of your channel till now, either. Heck, I wasn't expecting you to even GIVE me a response, given that I'm a total nobody compared to you.
@@Dragoncam13 Indeed he is. Oh, and if we lived in a reality where he was still with us, I was also gonna suggest Kevin Conroy, and list similar reasons as to why he would've been a better choice than Yong. However, my singing example would've been the "Am I Blue?" segment in the "This Little Piggy" episode of Justice League Unlimited season 1, as Kev had nothing to do with T.P.a.t.F. But alas, we don't live in that reality, so that golden opportunity shall remain forever lost 😥.
I think that yong does a good job, what we should be thinking about is that, the ones making the game are hiring people to play the wrong characters plus the voice direction they are giving him is another thing too like, this is probably what they wanted kiryu to sound like and yong is just doing his job, it isn't like they can't tell him how he should sound voicing kiryu, they say if he is doing the voice right or wrong. Yong Yea is just doing his job. but still i think he should of tried to deepen his voice though to give off that Kiryu vibe at least.
It might be race related. But I think it has more to do with YongYea's popularity. They were thinking that having a big name like his in the game would get people talking and boost sales.
The game was made in Japan and has Japanese characters in it so that's how I'd play it, same with most anime except those I grew up with as a kid, it's a bit of nostalgia trip there. I also feel like Japanese VA has better variations and range than English VA.
Well this game has a few exceptions when it comes to the preferred language. 1 of them being the character Dwight. He's based on Danny Trejo and its fitting to have him voice the character. So there are things to like about dubs and they can often enhance a Japanese game. Especially if the voice matches the background/ethnicity of the character.
Glad you pointed out that the Yakuza 7 dub is good. I still just use the Japanese dub but I also agree that it’s solid. These complaints aren’t just people hating, and him using auto tune was pretty disappointing. Something else I like about Yakuza is how all the actors do an amazing job on the Karaoke part of the game.
I agree there shouldn’t be race based voice acting. Unfortunately that’s apart of this new woke culture. 😔 If the person is good at doing the voice they should be hired, no matter what ethnicity they are. Good video just discovered your channel today. 👍
I don’t like YongYea, and that started for me even before Cyberpunk came out and ruined his credibility. Despite him parroting all the things consumers need game companies to hear, there was something really off about him. It didn’t take long for me to hate the sound of his voice, and now I know it’s because the voice he speaks with in his videos is put-upon and not natural. I especially hated how he said the word “content” because he would overemphasize both Ts and drive me crazy doing so. At least I can say the games he voices characters in (Yakuza and Persona 3 Reloaded) are better played with Japanese voices anyway. I’m a big Persona fan yet I never heard his voice ruining my experience
I know exactly how you feel. I don't want this race matching business to exist. Imagine if they recast Kratos? Well they did with another black man but he is doing a great job as well. They both really brought the character to life and if they were to replace em, they would have big shoes to fill.
Typical game critic on youtube cant handle criticism being thrown his way. He let it get to his head. Not only that, hes not a voice actor, he has no acting experience. He is too in love with his own voice. He thinks he did a good job voicing pucci, but pucci would have sounded the same no matter what generic guy they got, cause anime studios nowadays dont care about english dubs and arent gonna spend money on actual talent. Yakuza isnt anime, you gotta take it a little more seriously. Hire someone who can actually voice act.
Tbh i think yong did a lady job with kiryu with jojo bizzarre adventure's Pucci he did alter his voice to sound cooler in kiryu he is straight up just talking his normal voice
I love his commentary and videos , I've watched him for years. Not to say as if that qualifies my opinion to being any better or worse to any outside myself, but I still haven't looked into Stone Ocean clips even for novelty because it just seems improbable he could do the range that the character seemingly would need displayed, that's for a character who has largely been known purely through text with a comparable pool of prior voices which is pretty space or untapped. This new character is so well defined and has very specific tone/inflection. Whilst I acknowledge that I can't properly say I know how it will be until it's in front of me, drawing from the sources which I have long been afforded from being a long time viewer, I am remiss to say that I think it'd take a miracle and a disproportionate amount of editing to reach the point which seem appropriate. I would love to be proven wrong and I definitely am going to try to give it a chance but it just seems so out of left field. I thought so for jjba but this seems so drastically higher in the wild card deck which has been dealt. I am not going to fold, but I'm hesitant I guess. I know this sounds rude or harsh and I really don't intend for it to be so but I woke up to the news and it was very surprising so I'm still mulling it over. I have faith but I'm hoping to find more. I intend to finally listen to Pucci soon so i intend to return to apply my thoughts later. Bro Cyberpunk 2077 was such a massive flop people to this day meat riding CDPR knwoing very well the original script was thrown away for Keanu reeves. Making the game's story literally a 3rd of the length originally intended.
A lot of players are emotionally attached to Kiryu and the LaD franchise, and i get that. Yong's performance isn't top tier, at worst it sounds like a late 90s anime dub. Tho a lot of people are projecting at the guy and taking pot shots for reasons beyond just being the VA for Kiryu. Steve Blum may have been a better choice for the main character.
Wean I am watching emit i hear. Not crest brat i hear a happy person who loves life and rex danger vest who is rough and thoth i don't hear chist prat i hear a person who wants to be cool and hate life
For someone who live, breathe and eat being a critic on game companies and Chris Pratt’s Mario, he can’t handle that same taste of his own medicine, such hypocisy, he even more lost that credibility as a critic, I wonder if he’s gonna review Yakuza 8
My opinion is if you can find a township voice actor who is the same race as your character and then get them if you can just find a talented voice actor
I always said to myself when comes to people not everybody well be satisfied when it comes to a actor some well like the actor and some wont better to satisfied those that are greatful and not hating for no reason such race. Cause personally i dont look at race .

Christopher Judge, a black man, is the voice and actor of Kratos. Personally, I think the right person should be chosen for the job, and it should not be always based on race
Honestly Kratos probably got a little black in him
TC Carson did a great job too with the early God of War games. Great example of voice acting with a lot of emotion.
Best voice actor for kratos was 100% TC CARSON
Isn’t Kratos black? the last person who dubbed him is black too.
If he thought Yakuza fans are critical of his performance
Wait he til he crosses into Persona Territory
He's doomed. He might as well give up because he is not talented...at all. I heard fandubs better than him

Agreed. The fact that Yong still has an audience after all the BS he pulled during that disaster is nothing short of bizarre.
I stopped watching since the great Death Stranding shilling of '19, but i heard about his Cyberpunk fiasco, unlisted his review like a true bitch.
Diversity hire really is a pain in the ass for developers 🤭
That was exactly what I thought too. He just screams Diversity Hire, because it certainly cannot be his “talent.” Dude sounds like he’s just reading aloud. No acting.
This is Sega a Japanese company tho. Meaning Japanese companies are proven to be availing that ESG DEI investment system nowadays.
That doesn't really make sense. Hiring an Asian person from a Japanese company isn't diversity lol
@NormanReaddis but why would they get a south korean out of all people? Like the old saying goes, you don't get a Korean to do a Japanese man's job
Kevin also did a fantastic job as the Joker in the Batman.
@@RandomBlackGamerfuck yeah Kevin Michael Richardson is amazing B)
Oh quit lying
Another honorable mention who I think is a phenomenal voice actor: Noshir Dalal. He voices Sekiro, Charles Smith in Red Dead Redemption 2, and Rain in Mortal Kombat.
Charles is a standout in the phenomenal cast of characters from RDR2
You know what, just a quick search on top of my memory, "Richard Armitage" could easily be a better VA for Kiryu. He is the actor that voiced Trevor Belmont in Netflix Castlevania.
One of my personal favorite examples of Phil Lamar’s range is that he plays both Sig and Vegar in the game Jak 3. Sounding like multiple people it’s always necessary for a great performance. But that man has an actual gift.
You beat me to Phil Lamarr 😊 What a talented man! Heck, if he got Kiryu's English role, I'm pretty sure he'll nail it.
You have a point. Sometimes ethnicity and performance don't always mix well.
Thank you for making this video. You basically said what I was thinking.
This might sound crazy, but I think Keith David might be a fit. Man can also sing, so there's the karaoke fix.
Btw, Darryl Kurylo isn't in the VA industry anymore, so that might also be another reason why he didn't reprise his role as Kiryu.
Finally, I'm not alone in that regard!
And if that's the case, then why didn't he say that instead of what deviantknight7009 brought up?
@@yvarGL Probably didn't know.
I still find it insane that Troy baker played jazz in foc. It still blows me away
I’d love to see him play Jazz again!
Great video as always I hate that we live in a world where people can't take constructive criticism
4:35 - 5:40 Well said. Voice acting is embodied different characters and their role in the role.
Bro really just got to reading lol
Lol basically. Good to see you fam 😁
Can I just say that I'm glad you covered this because a lot of TH-camrs that were doing this are right-wing grifters and I didn't want to hear what they had to say. You were professional, sensible and unbiased, unlike those clowns.
He will never be Kiryu. Japanese dub all the way.
You really just said original language a “dub”🤣
Why....
@@terrancecloverfield6791Beyond one glaring omission re4r has an amazing voice cast.
@@terrancecloverfield6791
DEI snd ESG also cheap.
Somehow Yong will blame all this criticism on loot boxes.
8:00 how are you gonna show this tweet up of this guy crying he got blocked but not show what he had said and instead took what he said at face value?
And that is why Twitter affects your brain.
Huh what do you mean
Twitter and that Californian air are cognito-hazards. That shit will make you go crazy!
Yup. He's LEGIT. He went on to voice Batman and the Joker in Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His talent knows no bounds.
Ikr? Sega should've hired him to play Majima's English voice in Yakuza 7 instead of Matt Mercer. Y'know, considering that Mark Hamill was English Majima in PS2 Yakuza 1, and how spot on Troy's M.H. Joker voice was in that game.
Really?? Troy sounds like Hamill for a few lines but reverts back to a gruff Troy Baker voice in moments.
Hey that Yakuza ps2 dub is actually good! When will you ever have Mark Hamil play Goro Majima again? Not any time soon!
And animorphic creatures need to be voiced by real animals
Any handicapped character better be portrayed by an actor with the same handicap
Errr specialty or handy capability
that fake vape clip you added was hilarious he always sponsor the most weirdest and soy stuff lol
I’m not gonna judge his performance until I actually hear his performance not early stages
Like my guy have some self awareness.
of course not all dubs are bad, some are great, VAs like Christina Vee (who signed my miraculous ladybug funko pop
this video is slightly better then the ones that alex did (the guy who covers fan boys) because you actually showed the tweet except the guy at 8:00 who you took at face value
I learned not to presume race by voice at a very young age. Like elementary age.
I always gave Zell Dincht(FFVIII), Joey Wheeler's voice from Yugioh.
Its so strange when people argue that they match when a Korean guy is voicing a Japanese man. The cultures are nowhere near the same.
Yong Yea isn't even Japanese. Yikes.
aliens don't exist and as for the aztecs the closest you can get to getting one is probably the Nahua who are the descendants of the aztecs
Who is?
Well, despite being nine years older than both Takaya and Darryl, I think that somebody like Keith David would've been the perfect English Kiryu, and here's my reasons why:
And finally,
4. Unlike a certain someone we know, the man can ACTUALLY sing, as demonstrated by The Princess and the Frog's villain song!
That's besides the point.
Keith David is the goat
Hey you said it perfectly right here. And I’ve met the guy at a convention this September
"yong does a good job"
When fans want the *previous* English VA of Kiryu back, that shows that Yong's nowhere near good.
@@Ticketman99 I don't like the way he is acting and he is playing the wrong character he didn't even try to sound like kiryu.
4:39 Nah you got it wrong dude. Voice actor job is to bring life to a character to the point where you only see the character not the actor.
So basically what I said later in the video
Wonder if he'll talk about new game plus being dlc in Yakuza 8 or the day 1 DLC for P3R
Hell I would have loved to try for video game characters if given the shot.
Only semi-trucks or gorillas should voice Optimus Prime. 🙃
I used to love Yong for his MGS videos but now all he does is jump on the bandwagon and trash talk whatever company is popular to trash talk.
I hear you man but to be honest after listening to a few of yongs vids you get that he flip flops and panders when needed. Playing the game i assume
"youtube sensation" BRAH
Man, YongYea has always bothered me so much lol
Tbh i think yong did a lady job with kiryu with jojo bizzarre adventure's Pucci he did alter his voice to sound cooler in kiryu he is straight up just talking his normal voice
You guys play this game in Dub?
Great take.
4:40 Troy Baker and Nolan North didn't get this memo
Step out of that comfort zone?
Yeah I hope one day you do the same and cover Xbox ventures as well
I love his commentary and videos , I've watched him for years.

The right person should be getting the job. Yong is a good actor but he doesn’t fit.
I hope Yongyea ends up in jail, He deserves to rot in there.
Everything you say here is facts

Unpopular opinion. Death Stranding was actually a deep game. I enjoyed it a lot. But i didnt pay for it upfront.

For someone who live, breathe and eat being a critic on game companies and Chris Pratt’s Mario, he can’t handle that same taste of his own medicine, such hypocisy, he even more lost that credibility as a critic, I wonder if he’s gonna review Yakuza 8
This is worse than the change in Sonic’s voice actor
My opinion is if you can find a township voice actor who is the same race as your character and then get them if you can just find a talented voice actor

This sucks man because i wanna hear ichi and all the other characters in English but yongs voice just takes me out of the immersion.
