On this episode of the woodland kitchen i am cooking up some chilli con carne. This meal is for my brother and i, we spent a few hours out in the woods enjoying some blue sky's while relaxing in our hammocks.

Our weather here in Fl has been damp and cold. It's bad for my bronchitis so I've been laying low waiting on the sun to pop out. This coming week is supposed to be good. I have switched from coffee to tea (too much caffeine in coffee) and I use Stevia an creamer. The tea is amazing! I have several of the Swedish Army mess kits stainless which serve me well. I haven't mad a stew from scratch yet, but I'm thinking of it. I think it would be ok to get some stew meat, brown it and throw in some onion, potatoes and maybe some carrots. You have given me some great ideas Paul. Thankyou. Ken

I like your videos of one pot cooking. I motorcycle camp and have been limited to making coffee in the morning. I have a cook set something like the one in this video. Everything nests into one larger cooking pot including my MSR Micro Whisperlite, coffee pot and such. I'm planning on riding around Lake Superior this summer with my son. Rather than eating at restaurants and cafes I think I'd like to do some camp cooking like this. About your woods there, I notice some engine noise but the area seems to be pretty calm. It seems to be a very nice place. Thanks for the videos.

learning every day... never heard of potatoes and veggies in chili... only beans... looked delicious !!
Great video as always Paul. Everybody makes their own version of chili. When I make chili I brown the ground beef and the onions right in the big pot. Then when the meat and onions are almost done, I will add the chili seasoning to the ground beef and onions and brown it some more. That really enhances the seasoning. Then I'll add the veggies, some tomato sauce and water (or beer!) to almost cover. Pro Tip - If the chili is a little too soupy, paprika powder makes a great thickener. Cheers to you and your brother!
Another advantage of the windscreen is it increases the temperature of the burner which makes it burn more intense. These alcohol stoves love heat.

Here's an idea for you, do a video on what's in your backpack and completely dissecting go through everything as I'd like to find out exactly what you carry. I like that size backpack. I'm looking to get a 45 L of myself as the one I'm using now is the Molle 2, United States Army Military Surplus and it's way too big to take on an everyday outing. Let me know Paul God bless
That's a good idea, i change the kit around depending on what i'm planning on doing that day. That said i keep the majority of the kit in there.
,nice vid paul.food looked good as usual, peter is funny, swings in his hammock until its ready, cant fault him, ps. instead of buying the chilli mix, go to an Asian supermarket type shop (not the british mainstream places as they are too expensive)and buy a bag of ground cumin,a bag of cayenne pepper,a bag of chilli powder and a bag of oregano or mixed herbs,it will cost about a fiver,then make up a mix of half a teaspoon of each and you've got youre chilli mix, and it will make about 30 chilli con carne altogether,cheers.......johny
I have those spices mate. To be honest i bought the chilli packet for my dad but it didn't make it into the box i sent him. I think i will make an Indian soon from scratch. Thanks Johny.
Maybe you could have fried off the meat and onions in the bottom of the big pot, added the spice powder and then the water and veges on top to use up those lovely bits stuck to the bottom!

Are the woods around your place privately owned, city parks, national parks, etc.? Amazing you find so many nice spots with so few people around.
Most of the woodland in the UK is privately owned. They have paths going through them which are public byways that allow you to cross through. You are not allowed to leave the path in many of them, the same goes for fields with paths. The byways are marked on OS Maps. There are a lot of unofficial paths in the woods though. I go to woodland where it's popular with people and where it's not so popular.
Paul what kind of hammock do you use to sleep in. I am a big guy and just wanted to see what your setup was in the summer and in the winter
I use the same hammock all year round. It's a DD Frontline XL Multicam. In summer i don't use the underblanket or heavy sleeping bag. The bug net is used all the time. In winter i don't use the net. th-cam.com/video/idyhfkWSymU/w-d-xo.html

EyUp Paul, I’m not sure if I heard you correctly in one of your other videos. I think you said that you had put some water in with the methylated spirt to make it burn cleaner is this correct? If so what ratio do you use and dose it work. Cheers
