    I was diagnosed with PD 3 years ago. I found it quite interesting and will pursue this for myself. However, I have a major concern about making it available in this way to the general public. A positive result for PD without the face-to-face counsel of a neurologist could be more harmful than not knowing at all. What in the world is the person supposed to do with this diagnosis? I suspect that for many people, it would be emotionally devastating to get this diagnosis in isolation.

    I guess this never went anywhere since this is 8 years ago and I've never heard of it.

    One suggestion... make an smart phone App that records the voice, interface for questions and then uploads everything to your server where things gets analyzed/processed. That way, a lot more people can contribute/test themselves.
    There need to be more science Apps like that, for us that want to support Scientific research.

    This is wonderful! My grandfather had it, so I've always wondered if I would get it. Now my cousin has it. It's getting closer than I'd like! Good work.

    Update: There is now a reliable biomarker test available for Alpha-Synuclein where you can detect the disease before the symptoms appear (Symptoms appear late, after about 60% of dopaminergic cells in the Substantia nigra are dead)

    Its is of great importance for the statistical purposes. It can help doctors get a lot of patients with early diagnosis of the disease and treatment that slow or even slow the progress of the disease may develop. It might also become more clear what is causing it in the first place. Whenever diagnosing something becomes easier it can greatly benefit battling the disease. Research cost will drastically decrease.

    This is for scientific research only. It is not a service that serves any diagnostic purposes.

  • @kurtilein3
    @kurtilein3 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    right now we cannot cure or prevent the disease.
    but treatments appear to be getting better and better, with that i mean slowing down the progression of the disease, ideally to a standstill, once diagnosed.

    He really does. Amazing what people will say when they don't have to say it to a person's face. For all the wonderfulness of the internet, it does allow assholes to spout their crap anonymously. That's something that needs to be fixed.

      I presume you live in the USA, I feel really sorry that your health care system is so appaling. I live in the UK and have total health care that is completely free and therefore have no worries regarding my treatment, I wish I could offer you some advice but unfortunately I can't. Best of luck n getting treatment

    It's already been done, being done, and for decades, now. Parkinson's can be triggered by head trauma, too.

    There are known risk factors for developing Parkinson's, so this is and has been studied. There may even be different brain issues causing similar symptoms lumped into Parkinson's, which is and has been studied. Different types may have different causes or risks.
    I think canned soda has enough problems with just unnecessary sugars to limit drinking them.

    • @lindboknifeandtool
      @lindboknifeandtool 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sugar plays a role? How about artificial sweetener? I’ve heard artificial sweaters can degenerate vision, and I’ve heard a correlation with aluminum and neurological disorders.
      How does one live a life to avoid these hellish illnesses?

    Also he can't argue that about PD because the diagnosis and recording of diseases was of a lower standard a century ago.

    My Dad initially had a hand tremor, but few years before knew was Parkinson's. Yes, voice alters too. The disease doesn't just destroy the body, but also the mind. It can be similar to Lewy Body disease. Drugs to help have side effects with their own problems. When my Dad couldn't make to doctor anymore, then they put him in hospice care & he did die in a few months.
    I'm dubious about them saying this will lower need to see a doctor in person, as lowers other contact that is so important.

    I don't know if the public can necessarily access the results. Also, I think that for screening tests, it's not that important to minimize false positives. I think one wants a highly sensitive test so that the patient can be referred to services. Of course, it's best that a test is sensitive and specific, but I think as a screener, the false positive rate matters less.

    It'll never stay cheap or free. Anything that can be harnessed with money or regulations will fall victim to the Greedy, no matter how virtuous its intentions or beginnings. I'm so very sorry to say this. What ever little it costs will be exploited by those with power to exploit. If you're not for them they will decisively be against you. They take what they did not work for and live as pirates off the backs of others in obscene luxury.

    Guys so
    I'm worried about my mom idk what's wrong with her. Please help
    Today she was feeling wierd (this happens a lot and had happened the day before too) she was tired but couldn't sleep because she says there things inside her that make her need to move. Earlier she tried cooking and completely lost her mind. She was cooking totally wrong and didn't realize what she was doin/saying. She even started talking to a random guy named Alex (from the TV show she watched the night before) then started randomly talking about things. I tried to keep her calm and make her relax but she couldn't. She needed sleep but couldn't get it cause of some kind of nerves she says. I've been trying to find out what she has all day so please if you know anything please tell me

    What is the goal? PD cannot be cured, yet! Medicine helps control symptoms, nothing else. So, now we have all these people that suddenly know they have PD. So what? Early diagnosis of PD has no advantage, that I can see.

    if he never watched it... how would he know its boring? lol. You actually asking him why did he comment. In that case you're essentially saying GTFO you're not wanted here, but then again this is a public domain and you can't speak for everyone who visits TH-cam. Lastly, the dude probably has pornhub or redtube open in a second tab just to make up for the boring-ness of this vid. I like TED talks. but haven't watched this one yet when I wrote this comment. Don't know if it is boring, yet.
