Does run nicely, and has more power than I thought it would. Can't imagine why they would offer both models, must have been a big price difference. This must have been the entry level 7.5hp model...

This and the 5HP '71 Eska I ran on the last outing are the best running air cooled Eskas I have for sure. I was pleased to see how well it actually did perform. I'm guessing the same thing about this one being the low cost entry level 7.5. The Chrysler must have been significantly more costly. It definitely is a much stronger runner than this. I would not want to run this one for very long at a time either. The Chrysler I could run for hours without a problem. I would be interested to see the literature from back in the early '80s from Wards showing these two motors. Thanks for watching!

This thing would keep right up with a 50s OMC 7.5hp

Well den! That brings back memories. My pop and then I totally wore out a 1971 Eska 7hp. It finally went kaput in about 2001. As luck would have it, and not looking for another one, a low hour Ted Williams Eska 7.5hp landed in my possession for $35. I ran it for several years until a major back surgery put me down for a while. When I got back into boating, I acquired these Johnson and Evinrude motors of 1970s and one 1980 vintage that I love to run. That ol Eska was a tough motor though.

Glad to bring back some memories. Agreed that the Eskas are pretty resilient motors. Definitely agree that the OMCs are much more pleasant to run. Thanks for watching!

I was doing quite a but of motor swapping on this outing again. Next time out probably not as many. My opportunities for longer outings tend to diminish as we get closer to summer. It is about time to get the Aerocraft back on the water though. Thanks for watching!

I just bought this same motor. Can you tell me what connector I need for the external gas tank? I want to bypass the internal as you did. Thanks for the video !!

You could use about any connector you wanted to as long as it matches your fuel line. The best choice is to find one that will secure to the existing hole in the side of the lower cowl. The correct fitting is the Chrysler/Eska fitting. It is a shirt metal fitting. Round with a locking groove for the tank side of the fitting and a ball check in the center that contacts an O-ring to stop fuel from flowing out when the hose is disconnected. The rear of the fitting is threaded and secured in the mounting hole with a hex nut. Thanks for watching!

Is that your qualifier for Ron’s dream of an Eska/Clinton cruise at Tomahawk this summer?

Well, it could be, but I think it's only fitting that I run one of the Eskas that Ben gifted me even if this is the best one I own. That 5hp from last year is a good one too. I also got the 7hp from a couple of years ago at Constantine nunning now too. One of them will be in the cruise. I should try them on my Aerocraft and see what works the best since that is the boat I will have. Thanks for watching, Ed!

I have this exact motor I'm new to boat motors how do you get oil into the lower unit? And are you just running marine two stroke and pump gas? I was told not to run high alcohol fuel.

Congratulations on your motor. New gear oil is pumped into the lower unit through the drain hole with the vent screw removed. Pump marine lower unit lube into the gearcase through the bottom drain hole until it starts to run out of the upper vent hole. Plug the vent hole with the vent screw, remove the gear oil pump hose from the drain hole and replace the plug screw quickly to avoid too much oil loss. A cheap quart bottle gear oil pump from Walmart or Amazon will work.
I run my outboards on ethanol free recreational gasoline and 2-stroke outboard oil. I try to avoid ethanol blended fuels in my outboards. If you must use ethanol blended gasoline, a treatment like Startron is recommended to help avoid phase separation and the corrosive effects of it if it sits in the fuel system. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
