  • Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping adventure as we tackle the Powerline tracks in the breathtaking Buller region on New Zealand's West Coast.
First up, we're hitting the Manuka Flat track, a 10km off-road extravaganza that's as thrilling as it is scenic. This 4X4 track is a rollercoaster ride of fun and excitement, with a challenging grade 4 side track for those who love to live on the edge.
But it's not all about the thrill - the track is nestled amidst some of the most stunning landscapes you'll ever see, including a flat area carpeted with Manuka trees, and if that's not enough, part of our journey will take us alongside the Dublin Creek, a charming waterway that adds a touch of tranquillity to our adventure.
But hold onto your hats, because we're not done yet! Next, we're taking on the Little Deep Creek track, also known as the Wilkins Track. This old powerline maintenance route is now a playground for off-road enthusiasts like us.
    And the best part?
There are no public restrictions, as long as we stick to the track. This grade 3 side track is a hidden gem just off SH6. Despite the presence of pylons, it offers some fantastic driving experiences and jaw-dropping views. At about 5km, it's half the length of the Manuka Flat Track, but it packs a punch with its unique terrain and scenery.
So, are you ready to join me on this off-road extravaganza?
Let's hit the tracks and make some unforgettable memories!
I've created posts with more information on the tracks (including downloadable gpx files), general information (permission, history and any interesting facts) to help you with planning your next adventure.

Marcus. I was raised 12 miles from the Lyell and never realized how far Hyrdo Road/tracks had gone. Where do you access this track from? Bluey.

Hey Bluey, Deep creek track entrance is at -41.774579, 172.142891 and Manuka Flat entrance is at -41.810322, 172.102288. Manuka flat entrance is a lot easier to see and find. Deep creek is quite a narrow and steepish entrance. Also you have to be careful as the entrance is kind of on a blind corner on the Upper Buller Gorge road. There are numerous side tracks and dead ends. Quite good fun exploring the area. Deep creek is more technical and Manuka is more picturesque.
Don't let the length of the tracks put you off. You can easily spend the day there exploring side tracks and interesting views. Then go stay at Lyell campground and the next day tackle the Iron Bridge to Denniston route. One of my favourite 4wd tracks.
