I wonder how many times Aimee Mann and Flea have sat at the same table, or even occupied the same space. Also, I love how the wife was finding so much sheer glee in The Dude’s misfortune. A great reaction to one of my all time favorite films.
@BossMovieReactions I saw this film in the theater on it's opening night [it was a big deal because it was the Coen's follow-up to _Fargo_ . . . ], and the whole audience laughed heartily when Marty was doing his Dance Quintet [you know, his cycle?] . . . there was some initial confusion, but then the whole audience collectively got it at the same time, and laughed very hard. I also love how Walter refers to Marty's Dance Quintet [you know, his cycle] as "the whathaveya"!
G. Bush made his "this aggression will not stand" statement on August 5th, 1991. The dude wrote the cheque to September 11 1991. He probably was not doing very well. Mind you, his landlord told him, only a couple of days later, that "tomorrow is already the 10th" (of August 1991).

When they cast Sam Elliott as "The Stranger", Sam came to them and said something to the tune of "thanks for the part, but who in the hell is this guy anyways?" The Cohen brothers had to tell him they had no idea themselves.
Ah, interesting. Jessica also asked during our reaction "who this guy was" and many of our audience thought we didn't know who Elliott was "as an actor", but we were wondering "who" he was regarding the "story." Well, as I've said in the video, he was the "narrator." Lol. Thanks for watching! (:

Grüezi Maik, yes, both my parents are from Bern as well. I grew up in Baselland. Ich kenne den "Spiegel", den "Bäregrabe" und den "Gurten" etc. Welcome to Boss Movie Reactions! ((:
I don't think the dude got anything in the end. He never got paid by Lebowski, he never recovered the funds so he never got his 10%, the rug he stole from Lebowski got stolen from him. So in the end, I don't think the dude got any money or a rug, and he lost his car.
In addition to there being at least half a dozen echoes of FARGO in this film, I also confess that having basically started out as Norm myself, I've spent the last four years slipping decidedly toward being The Dude.
The blonde henchman is your acting teacher?! Cool =) I've actually met Peter Stormare (Uli the Nihilist leader and the porno/techno star) in person and he was a really down to earth person, a nice guy. When I went up to him, I was nervous and starstrucked. And while I was trying to say that I love his work and that the best role he did was in Fargo, I think he could tell I was nervous and out of nowhere he gave me a hug! Didn't expect that at all! =D =)
Oh, that's cool. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, Mark was my acting teacher for a while at Playhouse West in LA. I also had Jeff Goldblum for a session (he was substituting). (:
Wait, what? Mark Pellegrino was your acting teacher? that is so cool. I loved him in Mulholland Drive, great actor, should be mainstream for his talent. Thank you, guys. Fun fact, the other Lebowski's mansion is the same one used in 'There will be blood' which you should definitely watch, it's one of the best films of this century, and that's not just me talking.
The deeper message was: no matter what weird circumstance, along with weird characters, the Dude was always nonchalant, always the Dude! Therefore, no story plot could ever stick! Movie has to be watched more than once - maybe even while drinking a couple of white russians!
Happy to hear that. Yep, 28 Days is still on our list, but our list has about 12 years of watch-time... But keep mentioning it, so it stays fresh on our minds. (:
The narrator guy used to do a bunch of Ford or Chevy commercials, i cant remember which. Hes been on some recent Family Guy episodes too. The Dude: Buddhism Walter: Jingoism The Big Lebowski: Capitalism Maude: Feminism Jackie Treehorn / Bunny: Hedonism Police Chief: Fascism The Nihilists: (obvious) You're not watching characters so much as avatars of various ideologies, but that somehow makes it even more fun. 😎
@@BossMovieReactions Walter says that line in the scene where they are all sitting at the bar in the alley, comparing it to Nihilism. The line is absolute gold, because it is one of the most absurd things Walter says. :)

This is one of those movies that gets better every time you watch it. also, if your not familiar with the Coen Brothers you should look into their catalog. The have a range of movies with different genres but one thing in common with all of them is the quirky characters. My favorite comedy by them is Raising Arizona and it has a very young Nicolas Cage. I really enjoy this channel, keep up the good work!
Awesome. We just went there yesterday for Memorial Day. Shortest line ever! Waited only 9 minutes. As you might know, usually you wait 20-40 minutes in line.
@@BossMovieReactions Wow, would have expected a longer line on a holiday! I rarely go to that one because of the line situation and when I do, I tend to park and walk up to the window. The fact that the line goes out into the street makes it less efficient than other locations.
If you do not recognize Sam Elliot, With “ the distinct voice “ then, apparently you need to watch Toumbstone 😂 I don’t comment very often anywhere but I just wanted to say hi. Enjoy your reactions very much.
A Coen Bros classic. This was (very) loosely based on a 40s mystery novel by Raymond Chandler called The Big Sleep, later a movie with Bogie and Bacall. Both book and movie had an intricate plot that was almost incomprehensible, kind of like this. But it certainly wasn't as funny.

@@BossMovieReactions Raymond Chandler Wrote the novel "The Big Sleep," in 1939. Chandler was a genius with the written word of Detective and Noir. His genius was that as you read you don't actually think you are reading "Just," a detective story.
The Coen Brothers movies are so unique. I really love Burn After Reading. Has an incredible cast and full of comedy with a couple of holy crap moments. They were writing it while making No Country For Old Men. 7:56 Another wild movie but way more serious. Donny shut the fuck up, classic.
Great catch on the mic patch cord! I’ve seen this movie a hundred times and never caught that. And all this time I thought you were just slow in your process. I have truly been humbled madam.😎😶
Maybe this is the American cinematic version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, at least in terms of quotability. I would say this and Raising Arizona are the Coen Bros. most quotable. "The royal we" "They got us working in shifts!" "He's a good man, and thorough." "You want a toe? I'll get you a toe by 3 o'clock." "He fixes the cable?" "You're killing your father, Larry." "You're being very un-dude." "I will not abide another toe." "I guess we can close the file on that one!" "I'm a brother Seamus. . . . . Like an Irish monk??" "Over the line!!" "You mean coitus?" "He's a nihilist. . . . . Oh that must be exhausting." "3,000 years of beautiful tradition from Moses to Sandy Koufax" "Careful man, there's a beverage here!"
Thanks for doing one of the funniest movies of all time. But, if you’re going to do the goldmine that is the Coen’s filmography, you have to do their best: No Country for Old Men.
The shortest German nihilist is played by FLEA, the famous bass guitarist from L.A.'s very own, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS! 🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️🌴🌶️ ..and, FUN FACT: This film is WIDELY known to make the top ten of every (hetero) man's favorite film list!

Just wondering if you replaced some of the music soundtrack for this reaction, or if you watched a version of the movie that had been altered for some reason, as some of the songs in the background are not the songs in the original version. As someone who has seen this many times, it was very jarring to hear the wrong music in the background.
Have to admit, I didn't really "get" this film when I first saw it. The story seemed to be all over the place, with no real cohesive structure to it. Over the years though, it eventually clicked for me. The story is pretty much irrelevant. It's just a film to be experienced, a chance to spend time with some of the most eccentric characters ever to appear on screen. Once I got my head around that, I quickly fell in love with it!
Let me teach you a little something about acting... when you're pretending something is there... when it really isn't... pretend that it's actually there and stuff.

(I'm Swiss German, from Bern)
Grüezi Maik, yes, both my parents are from Bern as well. I grew up in Baselland. Ich kenne den "Spiegel", den "Bäregrabe" und den "Gurten" etc. Welcome to Boss Movie Reactions! ((:
The only disappointing part of this movie is we never find out if the dude ever actually got his rug back
Haha, yeah, that would be nice to know! (:
So sad…
It really tied the room together...
I don't think the dude got anything in the end. He never got paid by Lebowski, he never recovered the funds so he never got his 10%, the rug he stole from Lebowski got stolen from him. So in the end, I don't think the dude got any money or a rug, and he lost his car.
The rug never got taken. He threw it away after Wu peed on it
In addition to there being at least half a dozen echoes of FARGO in this film, I also confess that having basically started out as Norm myself, I've spent the last four years slipping decidedly toward being The Dude.
Haha, funny! ((:
The blonde henchman is your acting teacher?! Cool =)
I've actually met Peter Stormare (Uli the Nihilist leader and the porno/techno star) in person and he was a really down to earth person, a nice guy.
@@BossMovieReactions Awesome 😃🙂

Many people think that they have found the deep meaning -that is always mentioned- in this strange comedy. It is worth pondering why this is so.
Yes, lots of thoughts and opinions on that one. Thanks for watching! (:
that narrator guy is now mayor wild west in family guy
Ah, thanks for sharing that. (:
Yeah, Pellegrino was super cool. I talk a bit more about the class in my "Afterthoughts" video. "There Will Be Blood" is on our list! Thx! (:
Philipp Seymour Hoffman (Brandt) was fucking acting genius. Real pity he died so early.
Agreed! (:
My favorite role of his was the agent in Charlie Wilson's War.
That office scene. Man he was good.
The deeper message was: no matter what weird circumstance, along with weird characters, the Dude was always nonchalant, always the Dude! Therefore, no story plot could ever stick! Movie has to be watched more than once - maybe even while drinking a couple of white russians!
Haha, yeah, staying nonchalant is good advice! Thanks for watching! (:
I haven’t seen this one in a long time. I’m glad I got to rediscover it with you. Now, as always…I can’t wait for 28 Days Later
Happy to hear that. Yep, 28 Days is still on our list, but our list has about 12 years of watch-time... But keep mentioning it, so it stays fresh on our minds. (:
Can’t help it😂😂, love this off the wall flick😂😂😂, thanks for sharing with us 😊👍✌️🇺🇸
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!! ((:
The narrator guy used to do a bunch of Ford or Chevy commercials, i cant remember which. Hes been on some recent Family Guy episodes too. If you ever heard the Beef campaign commercials from a long time ago i think that was him too. "BEEF, it's what's for dinner". Just my worthless input to add a comment to hopefully help your awesome channel lol. Cheers guys
Yeah, I think I've seen him in commercials before. Thanks for the input and the encouragement! Cheers!! (:
That was AFTER he became famous for his ACTING!!
It was all about the rug and thay pissed on it 😅😂😂😂
Funny writing for sure! ((:

Hope to see the day you guys react to Joe Dirt. Keep on keeping on.
Hi there, thanks for your kind words and thanks for subscribing. I checked and "Joe Dirt" was not on our list, so I added it. Thanks! (:
Love the film and gets better the more you watch it.
Ah, I see, "rx7dude" -- Love it! (:
The Dude: Buddhism
Walter: Jingoism
The Big Lebowski: Capitalism
Maude: Feminism
Jackie Treehorn / Bunny: Hedonism
Police Chief: Fascism
The Nihilists: (obvious)
You're not watching characters so much as avatars of various ideologies, but that somehow makes it even more fun. 😎
Very insightful. Thanks for that! (:
Say what you will about National Socialism. At least it's an ethos.
@@1stCainite I had to look it up = The characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations. (:
@@BossMovieReactions Walter says that line in the scene where they are all sitting at the bar in the alley, comparing it to Nihilism. The line is absolute gold, because it is one of the most absurd things Walter says. :)
@@1stCainite Yes, I remember the scene and I remember Walter saying that, I just didn't know what the word "ethos" meant. Now I know, thanks to you! (:
The sheriff reminds me of what's his name Ernie Nelson or Harney something he was in that one military movie and in the remake and prequel to Texas chainsaw massacre obviously the character is more like him in the military movie sounds like him lol
Thanks for sharing, Chris, we appreciate it! (:
Kinda surprised you guys didn't recognize Sam Elliott as the narrator.
Misunderstanding. When my wife said "Who is he", she meant who is he in "regard to the story." Thanks for watching! (:
Greatest story ever told!
Thanks for watching! ((:
33:21 where's that guys Academy Award?
Yes, his performance was epic!! (:
This is one of those movies that gets better every time you watch it. also, if your not familiar with the Coen Brothers you should look into their catalog. The have a range of movies with different genres but one thing in common with all of them is the quirky characters. My favorite comedy by them is Raising Arizona and it has a very young Nicolas Cage. I really enjoy this channel, keep up the good work!
Hi Allister, thanks for your kind words. Yes, Raising Arizona is on our list. Thank you! 😃👍🥇
YES!! The Dude is an irreplaceable cultural icon. It’s hard to come up with a movie that has more quotable lines.

Yo, that's my In-N-Out Burger also!
@@sevilnatas Yeah, I hear you. The lines are crazy, but the burgers are sooo good! Have a great week! (:
You guys keep the room together
Haha, yes, we do! (:
The dude abides. Sam Elliot had trouble keeping a straight face talking with the dude
Yes, I can't blame him, the dude IS a funny character... ((:
If you do not recognize Sam Elliot, With “ the distinct voice “

A Coen Bros classic. This was (very) loosely based on a 40s mystery novel by Raymond Chandler called The Big Sleep, later a movie with Bogie and Bacall. Both book and movie had an intricate plot that was almost incomprehensible, kind of like this. But it certainly wasn't as funny.
Yep, someone pointed that out, I didn't know. Thanks for sharing! (:

@@BossMovieReactions Raymond Chandler Wrote the novel "The Big Sleep," in 1939. Chandler was a genius with the written word of Detective and Noir. His genius was that as you read you don't actually think you are reading "Just," a detective story.
@@BossMovieReactions Watch The Big Sleep. It's a very confusing and satisfying movie. It has Hawkes overlapping dialogue.

The Coen Brothers movies are so unique. I really love Burn After Reading. Has an incredible cast and full of comedy with a couple of holy crap moments. They were writing it while making No Country For Old Men. 7:56 Another wild movie but way more serious. Donny shut the fuck up, classic.

Sam Elliot is the narrator. Great actor.
Hi Barry, yeah, I realized that there was a misunderstanding when Jessica asked "Who is he." She meant who he was "regarding the story" (Filmmaker’s perspective), not who he was as an actor. We do know him. But thanks so much for sharing and thanks for watching! (:

WTF is this opening music?? I have seen this film easily over 100 times....never ever ever heard that music playing during the credit sequence
Yeah, I know... The song got flagged by TH-cam's Copyright bots. There are a LOT of restrictions... Sometimes a few seconds of a song will flag your video and you're not allowed to upload it. So, I could either completely MUTE the sound or invest some time to find a song with no copyright restrictions. Just wondering if you replaced some of the music soundtrack for this reaction, or if you watched a version of the movie that had been altered for some reason, as some of the songs in the background are not the songs in the original version. As someone who has seen this many times, it was very jarring to hear the wrong music in the background.
Yeah, unfortunately, I had to change two songs. The YT Copyright bots flagged it and I wasn't allowed to use it... Sorry about that. (:
Have to admit, I didn't really "get" this film when I first saw it. The story seemed to be all over the place, with no real cohesive structure to it. Over the years though, it eventually clicked for me. The story is pretty much irrelevant. It's just a film to be experienced, a chance to spend time with some of the most eccentric characters ever to appear on screen. Once I got my head around that, I quickly fell in love with it!
Yes, I agree... Just good entertainment! (:
