    My doctor was thrilled that I had lost 20 some pounds since the last visit. She asked what I was doing and I told her Keto & IF. She was THRILLED! She said to keep it up. It's so nice to have a doctor who's supportive.

      Mine was the same after I lost 45 pounds in 5 months. But why did I have to find out about fasting by some wonderful person who recommended it to me in a TH-cam comment? I needed to lose weight for years and no professional ever said a word. It’s gotta change.

      @@juliakay6204 We are sadly to the point where deliberate misinformation and carefully scripted jargon is the norm. So is medication to keep us going. It seems that as long as the cash register keeps ringing there is no incentive to change the norm. Anecdotal is a favorite jargon word. The norm is that those most in need of help seek advice and consolation from those who are part of the problem. Denial is the norm as is obesity. My wife was a teacher and those who were undeniably obese adamantly insisted that 'this is my normal weight and I am as i should be.' The food in the lounge for staff appreciation day would leave a keto person with literally no choice but to begin intermittent fasting.

      @@keen2461 thus the incentive to avoid advice that actually would help. When asked about keto a local doctor said that is shows 'promise but it needs more study.' This was as they were prescribing insulin.

    When I was a kid growing up in the 60s and 70s we did IF and the keto diet every day, back then it was called being dirt poor. We ate mostly off the land and didn't have access or the money to get junk food. Eating once a day and sometimes nothing a day was common. We only saw a doctor if we were injured and never had one cavity even though our water came from a well and was not fluorinated. We wanted to get the measles or mumps because it meant a few days out of school. The chicken pox not so much but only because it itched too badly. The idea of someone dying from these what at the time for us was slightly annoying childhood illnesses was unheard of and never happened in my area. Who knew there was an up side to being poor 🤔

      Yup! Ukrainian immigrant grandparents. Grew a ton of cabbage. It's still not really dinner unless it's a small portion of potatoes n meat served on a relatively large bed of cabbage n onions. Anyone else feel deprived w/o cabbage every day? Now, I only have a little potato on holidays. Cauliflower is better.

    Fasting and keto is reversing my Parkinson's symptoms. I think this is causing neurogenesis and the removal of defective mitochondria. My tremors are almost gone as well as another motor and none -motor symptoms. It has eliminated my bladder issues.

      There is only one disease and its mucus. Fasting allows the body to repair and get rid of mucus allowing the cells to regenerate. All cooked food is acidic and causes mucus which stagnates the lymphatic system leading to disease. To increase health switch to a 100% raw fruit diet. I cured psoriasis and arthritis

      Bob K. I have a familiar tremor that gets better when I am in ketosis. I am so glad to hear that it helps your Parkinson’s tremors. I have looked for research around the keto diet and tremors but have yet to find much. Only anecdotal examples from people like us. I would love to see some research around this idea that a state of ketosis can reduce tremors. All the best to you. I hope you continue to see reduction in your Parkinson’s symptoms.

    Thank you Dr!! Because of you, I started fasting June 10th weighing 412 ibs and just a few days ago, I weighed 367 ibs.!! Understanding insulin resistance now makes me very conscious about what I eat. And it's not just about weight loss for me , it's a change for life!! Another coworker joined me after watching your video and now her mother, a week ago. I am fasting with results and without weight loss surgeries.       @@PaulCarterJr you should try do carnivore to keep the scale coming down. Do research on the carnivore diet and give it a try. If you combine fasting with carnivore diet, am sure you will see great results. If you can't do the carnivore diet, you can opt for keto. Am sure the combination of a very low carb diet and fasting will get you within the weight range you desire within a year or so. Wishing you all the best

    I've been an RN for 23 years now. I do diabetes management and 100% plan on implementing this for my patients including my diabetics. I just started doing this IF/TRF over 6 weeks ago myself and it WORKS. I feel so much better. I have lost 25 lbs now by doing that and exercising. You're right: More of us in the medical professions need to have our overweight patients start doing this.

    I started intermittent fasting, 18/6, at 58 years old. It was the best thing I’ve ever done for my body and my health. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been eating three meals a day, you can change your habits and it’s so worth it!

      I just dropped breakfast and went with 2 MAD. 18-6 Intermittent fasting. Very easy to do. And if I'm not hungry I occasionally go to 1 MAD

      Sir Bob I find that 3 meals a day is too much for me. My stomach can’t really handle. A piece of fruit for breakfast. A large meal for lunch but a very light dinner low on carbs at night is best for me.

    I’m 66. I quit alcohol and began intermittent fasting in January (not a NY resolution). I’ve been on blood pressure medication for several years. My weight has had me in the obese category. My weight is down from 235-240 to 207, and falling. Not only am I no longer in the obese group, my energy, cognition, and appearance is much improved. My BP is usually normal or sometimes slightly elevated. I do one 24-hour fast per week, combined with an 18/6 routine, with few carbs, zero sugar, and lots of leafy greens. I seldom feel hungry, and never lack energy. Can’t wait to see my doctor in June.

    I was so resistant to doing IF when my husband first suggested it. I TOTALLY poo pooed it. I’ve done it for 2 years now.     As an MD. I have to tell you that this presentation is probably the best one I ever heard. I been doing IF and Now I am on OMAD, I feel lot better, I loose weight, I will keep listening to you, and also other voices, like Dr Berg. There will be a lot of resistance in the General Public and also in Doctors.

    i had Arthritis on both of my knees with pain . after just two days of IF ( OMAD on day one and 20:4 in day two) . at the end of day two my pain was totally gone. it is really a magic ....and i would request others to believe me it does work on arthritis at least ....

    Thank you Dr. Ekberg, i am 71 and my weight has been 225 to 240 for most of my life. I began the inttermittent fasting in mid July and now down to 188 lbs. and want to make in to 180 as my target. I have basically gotten off of everything. I have had type 2 diabetes for 25 years and was on 1000 mg of Metformin, Glipzide and Jardiance and finally realized this was killing me if I did not make a major change. My blood sugars have not totally normalized but are now running around 125- 135 and dropping each week so slowing but surely overcoming the insulin resistance of 60 years or more

      Add iodine supplement and selenium, and stop using fluoride toothpaste. 12.5 mg of iodine daily. You won’t be sorry. Don’t stop this. Daily

      Try semi carnivore with no carbs, cream and cheese. Then it is easier to go in and out of fasting. Water fast with KCl, NaCl bicarbonate, 2 tsp, 1 tsp, 1 tsp electrolytes to 2 liter of water everyday. Potassium keep your hunger away. Good job!

    I started doing keto almost 3 years ago and I've been doing intermittent fasting for almost two years. I fast 20-22 hours each day and I do a 48 hour fast once a month. I'm 54 years old and I am healthier than I've ever been.

      I started keto and if a month ago. I fast 20-24 hours 5 days a week. I take a break on weekends with the fasting but remain on keto. Lost 10 pounds so far. I am 53. I feel great! I also bought a rebounder. The piece of exercise equipment is amazing. I was hoping to continue As you have. Was concerned about trying to get 2 many calories in a short window. Glad to know you are healthy

    I eat once per day and fast for 23hrs. My body simply couldnt cope with 3 meals plus snax. I drink more water and black tea or coffee, pimple and perfect for me. It awsome watching my body changing. Im also more in touch with my emotions. Im also vegan. I will not change, i feel so good.

    I’ve been on keto for less than a year and I do IF (haven’t crossed the 48 hour barrier yet) and my migraines, IBS, arthritis, GERD, arrhythmia, all kinds of body pains, back problem, acne, fatigue etc were all gone. I sleep so much better and even if sleep just for a few hours, I still feel energetic. My mood improved and I’m happier than before apart from the 40kg I’ve lost.

      I've fasted twice for 14 days each and after you get past the third day you lose interest in eating and feel fine. You need to prepare for this by eliminating carbs and and eating twice a day. Then try one meal a day for a week or two then try short fasts of a couple days at a time. It helps to be in ketosis first. The first time I fasted for 14 days I was amazed that I could do this and feel fine, I realized that eating is a habit and you just have to resist temptation. I also drink water with sodium and potassium chloride (NoSalt) mixed in. (3 teaspoons/2 quarts water). My hemorrhoids are almost gone, skin tags have disappeared, my weights down to 190 and feel great at 65.
      BTW If you don't have excess body fat don't fast for more than a couple days if that.

      @@Crystalrosestream It took months, I guess around six months, for my body to finally absorb nutrients properly. I notice it was gone when shed off a lot of pounds around that time as well. Keep going and try to see what food triggers it and what doesn’t. Also in my case, I did keto-carnivore for a few months to eliminate plant based food that triggered so many illnesses. I reintroduced veggies after through trial and error and now I know which ones trigger acne or IBS.

    I have been doing high level sports all my life ,3y ago i was diagnosed with left hip arthritis,it was a massive shock for me ,i started IF and doing more mobility exercice,they said i was doomed (stop exercising,take pain killers..)but 3 y alter ,i feel much better,more power ,more resistance ,and my hip is better,i can sprint,jump and go hard.
    I do IF 3 times a week,8pm till 2pm next day,18 hours
    Healthier diet too

    I love the natural rythm of intermittent fasting. Fat is melting, brain fogg disappearing, more energy. Always was a healthy eater, but had to discipline myself with the 3 meals a day habit. Love the fasting.

    This was interesting to watch. I have been using intermittent fasting for a few years now. Although for the past 12 months I have used it more consistently. My body composition is much better. I exercise and lift weights, I am healthy but fasting has made my near 47 year old body look like a young man. My head does not suit my body!
    That is the little stuff. The big stuff is: I am a former smoker, I have struggled with asthma, emphysema and nasal polyps for the past decade. If anyone has ever had nasal polyps they would tell you that we would rather be deaf or blind. I have had surgery a few times because thus far their is no cure for nasal polyps. However, I have had zero polyps or symptoms of polyps since fasting! My Asthma and emphysema is under control with me still far from perfect but I am breathing better than most average people. I am also using half of my medication. Saving me thousands upon thousands on surgery's and medication. Yet fasting is free.

    This is big.....all my Hashimotos symptoms are completely gone. I have never felt better and am an extremely well, happy physical 70 year old. Will never go back to sad diets.

      Wonderful Donna! I have been searching for a post that relates a a thyroid. autoimmune disorder being healed. This is very good news. I stopped an NP Thyroid prescription a week ago - at the same I began IF 18-20 hrs daily. I sleep great, have good energy on waking, have WAY less cough & throat clearing, minimal body & joint aches, & my overall energy is much better. I feel a bit weak just before I break my fast, but I can push through. My weight loss is only 4 lbs so far, but I'm sure it will kick in if continue IF & choose carefully what I eat. It's exciting to have control over my health, & be able to do it naturally. Praying I will have no further need of any of the NP Thyroid, NSAIDS, allergy nose spray, or other western medicine.

      @@michelleduncan9965 my thyroid condition will always need my medicine to keep it under control, but my ketovore lifestyle keeps my symptoms at bay. If I stray and consume dairy, my body system will flare. Now, after 2 years, I know what foods will trigger my Hashimotos. My weight loss of 75# has maintained for the last year, which never has happened. Energy levels are supreme, but my sleep is still not regular. Keep up the good lifestyle and never go back to SAD eating habits.

      @@Goodnews99457 I do move every day. Manual labor in gardening, walking my dog and yoga stretches every night. I do not like to sit for very long even when I am painting in my studio. When layers of paint need to dry, I am walking outside in the sun. I turn 72 this month and my weight has only fluctuated 1 to 2 pounds plus or minus this past year. I call this a success.

    Losing weight recently bc of lack of appetite with covid has improved my health so much that I now understand about fasting. Dr Ekberg's videos on 'autophagy' and why the fasting body will consume anything it has to spare (viruses included) are so clear and encouraging.

    I agree. I’m diabetic. I practice IF for the last 4 months, and my system adjusts to one meal a day. It’s great. My sugar is managed. I lost weight and my visceral fat. I’m stronger. No more cravings for sweets. I should have known this 10 years ago. I was only given pills..... and more pills by the doctor. It’s not a cure. I’m hoping IF will finally reverse my insulin resistance.

    I've been doing 18-6 for about a year, worked my way into it slowly, I no longer have type 2 diabetes, my COPD flairs up less often and I have less joint pain and just over all enjoying life more This needs to be taught in schools along with mindful meditation. I first heard about fasting from DR. Ekbert, and I thank You Sir.

    I have been doing IF and EF for the past year along with a keto and carnivore (I alternate, now). The results have been amazing. No more arthritis, allergies, IBS, blood sugar is great, insulin sensitivity has improved, eye sight has improved, energy and strength are high, an old knee injury from 13 years ago has healed. 60 next year and am running, alternate days, 6 and 12 km plus working with my livestock every day. Life is better than ever.

      That is awesome! How do you alternate between carnivore and keto? I have been living without eating starches for quite some time now but I feel I should be “eating my greens”. The only fruit I eat rare berries.

      @Nadja Davidson I let my body tell me. It is hard to explain, but I will try. First, understand the difference between an addivtive craving (sugars and the like) and your body's cravings for something it may be lacking. For instance, when I have been doing strict carnivore, I will sometimes start craving a big salad or some other vegetables. So, I will eat them for days, weeks, or even months, thereby doing keto. I always keep fat high and carbs low.
      I am only guessing here, but I think that when we start craving certain foods, it may be because our bodies are lacking something, and it remembers from where we last got it. That may be hooey, but there you go. 😃

    As an RN I hate when dietitian are so quick to put pt on tube feedings, I asked one RD why not push organic greens ( kale, spinach chard) she laughed and said there is scientific research backing the tube feedings

      I hav slow iron levels so I don’t think that this would work for me. Every time I do this, I lose five pounds, but than gain it back shortly after. So. It may work for some and not work for others

    I was diagnosed with depression 17 years ago. Started IF a year ago, a few months later I started exercising, I Stopped eating sugar and limited my consumption of processed food. Of course I loss a lot of weight but the affects on my mental health was the biggest surprise. I no longer take anti-depressant and I feel great. Can you please do a video on IF, a low carb diet exercise and the mental health benefits.

      We were all there at one time, then we got sick and tired of being sick and tired and stepped out of our comfort zones to break the cycle. IF and keto has been a life saver for me, only regret is that i didn't start sooner.

      I want to agree but I can't. Folks don't "chose" in the context of a massive industrial food complex that constantly promotes 24/7 the consumption of simple carbs. My first step to IF and keto was throwing out my television. The brainwashing from supposed authorities dictated by lobbyists is incredibly intense. I'm 57 and I can still reflectively declare "saturated fat clogs arteries". It is nonsense but my brain has been warped to such a degree it is a struggle to overcome the learned stupidity. in that light I see those that struggle to understand there is a different way, as folks that just are not self aware enough. Let your own good health be their guide and they will follow when they are ready.

    Thanks for helping to get the word out about IF! I wrote up this wonderful study on my website. I've noticed that many people who would benefit from IF seem to always have a "reason" why they either question the validity or find a way to "can't" do it. So I made up a saying, "When your ship finally comes in, don't shoot it with a torpedo!"

    I ve been dry-fasting one month a year since the age of 16. I am now 64. After a month I feel great. Some members of my family fast 8 days every month around the year. They are very healthy and never sick.

      @@chasetrix2432 sorry for the misunderstanding. I don’t drink and eat from dawn till sunset for a month ( Ramadan) After sunset I drink a glass of warm water and have a soup and 5 dates after 3 hours I have a small meal. I also fast 2 days a week, Mondays and Thursdays from dawn till sunset.

    Fasting is amazing. As a doctor I have fasted hundreds of patients for various diseases. That is long time water fasting. There isn't a chronic non healing ulcer which will not heel with fasting.

      I disagree completely; I had a stoke that brought on Type 2 diabetes somewhere around 2005. I have not and will not change my religion, but with INFORMATION provided by the likes of Dr. Ekberg, I am CHOOSING to make the necessary changes to keep on living! Living with less and less medications and with more energy. And then, there's HOPE, no pill has ever given me hope, but INFORMATION HAS!

    I fast a lot. I workout at super high levels as well. Your body will get used to fasting. For me it helps inflammation, I look younger than what I am, and overall I have a ton of energy. When I’m fasting my body can focus on other areas to help recover. I feel clean and light. For anyone who wants to change there life fasting is it. I’ve always been into fasting for spiritual purposes but it’s been a life changer for me physically.

    When I hit 50 I started with brain fog, didn't know at the time why I was having all these symptoms... I started searching and I crossed intermittent fasting, it's the best thing you could do for yourself! I'm 52 now and never being better! Intermittent fasting, good diet and exercise!

    I am a muslim and I started fasting for ramadan when I was 12 years old. For years people criticized it and said fasting is so unhealthy and I shouldn’t do it. But I felt amazing after doing it for the whole month and I could see the change in my body. I knew that it was because of the rest that I gave my body especially my stomach, that way my body had the time to detox.
    Because we can’t even drink for those hours we give our stomach a full rest so I feel like it’s slightly more effective.
    Thanks to science it’s finally proven that fasting has a lot of benefits and it‘s not unhealthy at all.

      No. No food or drink from sunrise to sunset. Which makes it easier in the winter to fast. In the beginning the fast is very difficult. In a few days it is easy to go without food and drink.

    Intermittent fasting definitely works. Down 35 pounds and am not that hungry until about 2PM or 4PM or 16 or 18 hours fasting since dinner the previous evening. Started at 12 hour fast and gradually built it to 18 hours normlly. Once in a while I'll have a braekfast on a weekend which becomes like a reward. Also cut down dramatically on alcohol which has helped. It is the ony sustainable diet in my 40 plus years of being overweight that has worked.

    I started intermittent fasting about 5 months ago - 24lb weight loss so far and have found it extremely doable for me . I think North Americans have been raised to believe they should never feel hunger so keep shoving the food in . Starting fasting for 15-16 hrs a day made it easy and moving gradually to 19 hours which I am doing daily now has improved my energy levels and decreased the inflammation I was feeling . Trying to move to 20hrs daily a few weeks back caused a real blood sugar drop and a faintness that made me know that that time is too long for me at this point . The weight loss was my main goal but the other positive side effects of the fasting will keep me doing it .

    I have been an insulin dependent, type 2 diabetic for 15 years. I started having trouble getting Ozempic in January. I decided to try intermittent fastening. We are now in mid April. I am off of Tresiba, Metformin and Lisinopril. I have lost 19 lbs. my blood glucose is fantastic. I bought a keto meter. I try to get myself into ketosis at least 4 times a week. I do not eat before 1:00 Or after 7:00. The 1st week of fasting was tough. I had to be careful not to get my glucose level too low. The 2nd week was a little easier . However all I thought of all day was food. By the third week it was easy. My longest fast was 36 hours. I routinely fast for 16 to 18 hours a day. I feel great all sugar cravings are gone. If you have type 2. Make the commitment it is easier than you think. Lastly if you are on insulin be very careful. Taking your normal dose and fasting can be very dangerous. I slowly dropped from 20 units a night to zero. It took 3 months.

    16:15 It's weird to me that people would feel the need to convince their doctor of something that's completely in their own control. They don't need permission from their doctor to do something. If they're convinced of the wisdom of their course of action, they shouldn't care what their doctor says. The doctor is there to give advice. They're free to take it or leave it.

      @@drekberg yes. I'm only using long lasting insulin once a day! I take 25u of lantus. Before keto and fasting I used to inject up to 6 times a day. Or of course depending on how many carbs I ate. So I've finally found a way to keep my blood sugar levels around 80-95mg/dL being the highest.

    Before low carb i ate often and a lot. I was fat about 100 lb above ideal. Week i thought but I was carrying a 100 extra pounds all the time. Naps were up to 4 hrs long and involuntary, angry, so much stress and pre diabetic and high Bp. Now on low carb none of that is present including 60 lbs lost. My intermittent fasting is getting better maybe eat at noon and 6pm. Sometimes i feel like i don't need food. 74 and getting better all the time. Now i walk in my building with two 30lb weights to exercise. I watch and listen to all these videos Dr.

      The food industry will go nuts. They already managed rank unprofitable diets like keto and paleo at the bottom of the list. I'm curious how they will handle the 'fasting' problem. I love my 16/8 and it's easier than I could ever imagine.

    Thank you for the video. I've been doing IF(18:6 with low carbs) since I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in September 2019. I've lost more than 10kg (still gradually losing) and managed to reduce my waistline from 86cm to 79cm. As a result of this, my HbA1c has gone back to a normal range. I really appreciate how yours and Dr. Jason Fung's lectures have helped me. Thank you.

    NEJM acknowledging that the benefits of fasting come from more than just caloric restriction is significant and exciting; but it is a shame that it takes 10-12 years (on average) for research findings to enter standard medical practice.

    I started to do a 1 day fast. I got through it. Then decided on 3 day fast, got through it. Then extended to 7 day fast. I have been watching videos and decided to do 30 day fast. 8/26/22 to 7/3/22 lost 10 lbs. I drink water, bone broth, green tea, vites, potassium, magnesium, electrolytes, Light exercises most days, nothing strenuous. I tried bike riding but got wiped out. been biking for months so I over did it. Sometimes I was hungry at night but ignored it. Next day I was smiling because I lost a pound. After 30 days, will slowly introduce food, an egg and veggie or salad. Will probably do alternate days of fast. Eventually one meal a day. I'm so happy I have started this journey. I'm 66, no prescription drugs, don't drink or smoke. norm blood pressure. Will do fasting again...at lease once a month. It's so worth it. I hope I can encourage others to try. It seems like a sacrifice, but it's worth the benefits of good health and happiness. Another bonus is you save money from buying food. Good Luck.

    Dr. Ekberg, you hit the nail on the head when you talked about the societal culture. When I tell someone, “oh I’m not eating, I’m fasting” the look on their faces is like I grew 3 heads. Also, I don’t drink as much because alcohol affects me much more now during periods of eating. It’s definitely going to take some time for the people around you to adjust… but they will eventually.

      You are so right. As a health coach, I see the lackluster interest in people’s own health. When you think about that this is the only vehicle we’re given, you’d think that everybody would spend the majority of their thinking time on how to biohack the system. 😅 With that said: I didn’t until I got very sick. Then priorities shift very quickly, lol. I am so grateful for my journey because I learned so much and I’m still learning.

    Thanks!, I so appreciate all your directives on fasting. Yes the medical community is primarily still in the dark ages when it comes to nutrition and caloric restriction. Also what you don’t identify is those people that want all the benefits and will not follow a regimen of health. All most everyone wants a new drug. I was in a year long decline physically and mentally losing all interest in all the things that were important to me , I was isolating, repeating tasks I was uncertain if I had completed, severe brain fog, missing whole days, talking to people and completely forgeting what we were talking about, several times in a day, paranoia where I can’t talk to anyone about this , I am afraid health care professionals want my drivers license. I get two tickets within a mile of each other; I haven’t had a moving violation in 30 yrs. I want to go to the Blue Ridge Parkway and take a 15 mile an hour turn at 45! I express to Dr only lack of energy, B12 shots not helping, labs fine except moderately high glucose, High blood pressure,I started looking everywhere in my leisure which had become all the time, my brain was dying! Sugar was killing me! I started getting almost all sugar out of my diet that is causing me inflammation and most importantly inflammation of my brain. I started intermittent fasting and make sure I get fruits a veggies everyday; on day four I woke up 20 years younger. Did my first 100 mile bicycle ride in nearly 9 months, I’ve done 2 since, I go to the gym 5-6 days a week, done three 72 hr fasts for even greater clarity. This has been a life changing event. I have 0 symptoms of dementia and BP is normal 123/73. My mom died with Dementia. I was afraid for my life. I have since explained all these symptoms to my Dr. with no medical explanation diagnosis or treatment. Come to find out doctors have very little training in nutrition. Doctors treat symptoms you are responsible for addressing the cause. Unattended , no worries, there’s a drug for that!

    Dr Stone OakRock, that is what the name means in Norwegian, Danish and Swedish. Usually you can see from a name which country the person is from, but this name can be from any of the 3 countries.

    I guess I am one of the lucky ones. When I first talked to my doctor about fasting. He said he does fasting as well and he recommended it.

    63 yr old female who, at 331 lbs in 2018, had a clotting incident; hospitalized 36 hours, now on Eliquis to keep my platelets from sticking together. 1-24-20, 284 lbs, highly motivated to get off the Eliquis, if at all possible, sporadically IFing last 4 months. *Hoping like crazy* IF can reduce inflammation to help restore my markers, if possible. ??? During the work week, I can IF 18-6 with little difficulty. Weekends? all bets disappointingly off. Old habits are *SO HARD* to change. Not giving up, not giving up.

      Good for you. Similar for me--I started last year at 63, and am now 64 and down 73 lbs from 320 after 6 months. Long way to go still, but I'm more then a third of the way to my goal.

    Dr. Ekberg, thank you for explaining everything so well and so clearly. I am 68 years old and started intermittent fasting about 6 months ago.
    I’ve lost weight and feel SO much better. I will vouch for the fact that the first month was a challenge but it definitely gets easier. It has become my new lifestyle. I am a person who enjoys, and finds comfort in, having a daily routine and I’ve even established a new routine for myself that blends perfectly with IF.

    This evening on my way home from out of state I stopped to spend the night in a motel - I got little sleep last night. I asked the motel clerk where I could get a steak. He made a phone call. I went for a steak. I asked for more salad instead of a baked potato. I was half way through the meal and was 'full'. I mentioned to the waitress that it was tough to finish the steak. She asked why. I told her I hadn't eaten in 24 hours. "Why didn't you eat for 24 hours?" she asked. I said, "I wasn't hungry."

    I started IF in Sept of 2017. Wasn't "over weight" per se but I had a gut and I didn't realize how much body fat I actually had. Lost over 20 pounds and am more fit that I have been since college. Will turn 58 next month. IF changed my life.

    I have successfully stopped having breakfast, milk products and fasting ... Yesterday I have completed 36 hrs of IF... Planning for alternate day fasting now for a month or so... Aiming to get off my metformin. 5 gm in a month or so

    This works! Lost 40 lbs over the last 4 months going from 232 to 190 lbs with time restricted fasting, portion control, target removing sugar and ultra process foods (also known as sugar in a box), reduce alcohol and exercise.
    This is not a diet, it is about changing your relationship with food and how you eat. So true that you get used to not having that breakfast in the morning. I can now walk down the stairs without knee pain, feel good with alot more energy.
    Highly recommend this and educating yourself about this and metabolic syndrome (metabolical by r lustig).

    Started a 6/18 IF yesterday and today i felt great! No bloating, heartburn, belching and feeling uneasy. Today i had my last meal at 6 p.m. and won't eat until 12 p.m. tomorrow. I might prolong it haha thanks doc! I cant wait to see & feel the results in a month from now. I will keep watching videos & learning about IF!

    I started fasting a couple of months ago after watching many videos by you and Dr. Jason Fung MD. Since I'm on two meds for blood pressure, I checked with my Doctor before I started fasting. I was happy that he was familiar with fasting and was enthusiastic about me doing it!

    My Carnivore OMAD meal around 5 pm example: 2 thin cut ribeye steaks, 2 pasture raised brown eggs over easy covered with Sharp Cheddar, piece of liver, small can of sardines in tomato sauce. All meat cooked with Kerry Gold Butter or coconut oil and basic seasonings. Very tasty and will fill me up. Don't know the calorie count, how much protein, don't really care. Very simple, basic, healthy and cost effective. I have no hunger till the next evening. I try to eat a nice mix of proteins/meats every day. I'm currently 168 pounds from 230 at 53 years old and nearly perfect blood pressure. 125/72. Humans ate like this for perhaps millions of years. Ease into this natural way of eating because your sugar/carb addiction will be the hardest part to overcome. Dont rush, its baby steps....slowly eliminate the carbs and sugars.

    I thank you so much Doctor for all your videos. In fact, I have just found out I had diabete. I was very confused in the start because I did not want to take medication but everybody around me said it is dangerous. Then, I started to search in TH-cam and that is how I found you. I am so happy, after two and a half months of intermitteent fasting OMAD and doing almost everyday exercise and end up with a cold showe, what a benefice, what an improvement in all my body, all my pains left so far. I do not feel anylonger hungry, tired, I just feel good and want to continue just like that. I am waiting for the 3 months blood control to see if it did lower my blood sugar, but according to my health state, I am almost sure it did diminish. I will continue as long as I will be in a good bood level if not longer. I thank you so much for your guidance and your clear explenation helped me very much.

    Fasting is a miracle. My blood came back down from 149/90 to 122/80. I have decided to stop eating from 6 pm until 8am in the morning for one week. I start seeing good results on my blood pressure.

    I'm not giving up on this lifestyle. It has work wonders for me, I'm feeling a lot better in so many ways. Four months now on intermittent fasting and keto diet and even though I haven't lost weight yet (but I haven't gain it either!) I've noticed a huge improvement in my digestion, hypertension control, sleeping patterns and psoriasis condition. I suspect I'm extremely insulin resistant and that's why I still don't loose weight, but I'm in no rush, my body will take care of that for me as soon as it gets into homeostasis. Great video! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and support through your channel. Will always be your fan!!! 😁😁😁😄😄😄

      Go for a walk or, if you are able, do cardio while you are fasting. Exercising while fasting was the only thing that shifted stubborn fat. Good luck, and keep going! 😊

      Also, redice werkly the grams of carbs you take in daily. The healthy fats are your energy, the proteins next, and all the non starchy veggies u can eat that are low carb!

    Fasting and low carb has helped more than anything. I am down 73lbs to my all time high a few years ago. 😂Just started low carb and fasting 19/5 about 3 weeks ago. Feel so much better. Dropping inches as well as lbs. Thanks for explaining everything so well. I have gotten off of high blood pressure med and cut metformin in half. For first time in years I feel like I am in control of my health.

    You opened my eyes by saying that doctors, dietologists, etc. don't even study this. I've been on 22-2 regimen for about 3 years now and I don't find it especially fun to argue with doctors every time so now I don't go to them anymore. The longer I live the more firmly I come to the conclusion that if you want to be healthy it's best to just skip traditional medicine altogether.

    Thank you Dr. Ekberg.. I have been doing interment fasting for one month now and on the third day brain fog lifted . It was like a cloud like substance in the front of my head suddenly de materialized and clarity took its place.
    I was instantly sold on IF . One month later I feel healthier, purging and healing has started. probably lost about 10 lbs. And the crowning glory is a stronger sense of presence and clarity of mind.
    The first two weeks were hard,, changing habits as you said, but that is quickly rectified with minimum effort.
    Doing 16/8 and 18/6. Wiggle room lol.
    Your presentation is comprehensive and covers many aspects. Appreciate it.

      From what I have picked up from others, getting into IF is much easier once your body is fat adapted which you can achieve with a keto diet/lifestyle. However, if you just start cutting out 2 carbs (all sugars and wheat products) and be patient for a few weeks before you try skipping a meal (ie breakfast....because you are already fasting during the night) it is easier. Those who jump into IF straight from a full SAD (Standard American Diet or similar carb loaded lifestyle) find fasting very difficult at first. For myself, I started a few weeks of low carb, cutting out anything with sugar including fruit, and any grain products, then got into keto, THEN started IF. I had absolutely no problem albeit I had the advantage of not being carb addicted in the first place and am naturally never hungry in the morning. I only ate breakfast to accompany my husband. I no longer do that. Now my norm is 16, 18 hr fasts which I switch up now and again with a 24 hr fast. Once in a while 36 hr with no problem. It's been a year now and I have nothing but all the benefits of a keto lifestyle and IF...including 14 kilos less. I hope this helps. :-)
