WEEKLY CLEAN-UP: Homeless Living in Venice Restrooms

  • The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., carried out a cleanup operation of homeless encampments at the Venice Beach restrooms and on the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Friday, April 14, 2023. Sanitation workers were donned in white hazardous materials suits as part of the safety protocol for the cleanup. Many of the unhoused have been using the restrooms as living quarters, which has caused significant health and safety concerns for both the unhoused and the general public.
    LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) provided homeless outreach during the clean-up, and to ensure the safety of all involved, Los Angeles Park Rangers were present at the site throughout the cleanup operation. This weekly cleanup activity takes place every Friday in Venice and is intended to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the area.
    There are two separate waste management teams with different roles working in collaboration. City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, wearing the yellow safety vests, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc., wearing the orange safety vests. The Clean Harbor team goes in first to sort through the garbage to identify, collect, and segregate the hazardous waste items such as batteries, urine, surenges, etc. Once they finish collecting the Hazardous Waste, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers take over and collect the remaining garbage.
    The City of Los Angeles has been actively addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and the Venice Beach clean-up is just one part of their ongoing efforts. The clean-up not only helps to improve public health and safety but also helps to restore the restrooms to their intended use.
    It is important to note that these clean-ups are not a solution to the larger issue of homelessness. The City of Los Angeles continues to work on implementing long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness and provide resources to those in need.
    Overall, the clean-up of homeless encampments at Venice Beach is an important step in improving public health and safety, and providing much-needed resources and support to the unhoused individuals in the area. The City of Los Angeles remains committed to addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and will continue to work towards long-term solutions.

      It is certainly illegal for those who have no right to unilaterally occupy the place where all citizens who pay nearly half their salaries tax should use it. There's no reason to accuse you of being homeless, but there's no indulgence for illegality just because you're homeless, if you're free, you should respect the rights of citizens!

We’ve put the clowns in charge of the circus and it is literally destroying our society. Enforce laws, rebuild our mental hlth institutions. Anyone who thinks this is an acceptable “choice” of a way to live is delusional. These are sick ppl, some criminals, all drug addicts or alcoholics but all in need of mental hlth treatment. • @fonlai8721

    • @Snyder9e
      @Snyder9e ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Since they are public toilets, free of charge in one of the most crowded places in a dense city, i'd say these weekly clean-ups are in order (tax payers are not willing to pay up more money for this type of service, although they probably will have to either way, seeing how things are). And they (Venice beach or city-workers) probably have someone check the toilets once a day, but this is the whole shebang! I also thought about that toilet paper issue.. i actually think they only apply one for each room, and my guess is that they restack like once every 2 hours?

      It's amazing how videos like this bring out all the fucking 'experts' on why people are homeless
      without ever getting to know said homeless people. Did you know that there are thousands of
      people that are working two to three jobs and are living in a car, a shelter, or on the streets?
      People want to work, but getting paid poverty wages is a big contributing part of this problem.

      can make you feel right in your abject stupidity

The saddest part, even above the cleanliness of the beach is that there is not one once of compassion for the displaced PEOPLE who are probably in those bathrooms so that they can sleep behind a locked door. Rangers should be on duty around the clock to stop them from setting up tents and all that crap they drag around. They steal shopping baskets just to load up . Homeless means you don’t carry a shelter and complete household.
    I do appreciate the Sanitation, cleanup crew and Park Rangers for the work they do. It looked so much better after all those tents were removed.
