Holy cow, after reading the comments, I saw somebody turned the temp down in the fridge. I did it last night and it worked. Fridge has been knocking for a year almost. Same noise. I videoed it. Turn your fridge to 4 or 5. Mine was at 7. Couldn't keep up. Fine for now an no noise!!! Great video. 👍

I figured it out on the refrigerator side. There should be an area where you can manually put the settings where you want them to be you and there’s an on and off button press that and then it should blink it out press it again and add your settings that should probably help the problem

  • @david_miller

    I had exact noises!
I was able to fix this! With someone else’s TH-cam advice. Gently apply pressure (using a normal flat blade screwdriver ) to the bottom outside edge of the front cover plate of the ice maker to remove it. It should be easy to “pop off”. Once off, you’ll see two small plastic gears. These along with a safety mechanism to keep there plastic teeth from breaking are causing the load knocking noises. The reason is that small screw adjustment above the two gears is defaulted wide open to create the largest size ice cubes possible. The problem is that doesn’t work because the heater (tubing you see under the ice tray) can’t warm up the frozen ice fast enough to allow it to break free and dump into the ice tray.
The fix is to tighten that adjustment screw about 4 full turns to create smaller ice! We like smaller ice any way and now just normal sounds of an ice maker and get ice made faster! If ice too small , open screw adjustment a bit more.

We have a similar problem with our upright Bosch fridge freezer! At first, the tapping lasted a few seconds every now and then. We actually thought the tapping was coming from the guy next door hammering nails into the wall to hang up pictures, but after a few days it dawned on us that it was our fridge. We have insurance and called an engineer who advised we defrosted the fridge for 48 hours and then turn it back on - he seemed to think there was ice build-up on the fan that was stopping/blocking the fan spinning freely (hence, the tapping sound) - we thought the advice strange as we have a frost-free refrigerator that has no ice. However, we defrosted the unit, as advised, and switched it back on but the sound continued and it's now more frequent and is almost driving us insane! Another engineer is due to come again in a few days' time and I think we should ask for a replacement😟.

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator making this exact same, horrible sound. I noticed that the sound would stop when I pulled the fridge away from the wall and removed the back panel to inspect it. It was like, "Stop looking at me. If you look at me I won't make the sound." I touched the compressor and noticed that it was very hot. The back panel is cardboard and lined with insulation, and there's a fan blowing on the compressor from the right attempting to cool it down.
I asked myself why the knocking noise would stop if the back panel was off. I hypothesized that the warm air around the compressor needs to escape so the compressor can cool down better. I noticed that the back panel has cut outs for air to be pulled in on the right side (an air inlet for the cooling fan). I noticed that there is no slit on the other side to let the air out. This is probably by design to force air to blow across the condenser coils that along the bottom and out the front of the fridge. But something isn't right because we have this knocking sound.
I decided to take a risk and cut a vertical slot on the left side of the back panel (left of the compressor) to allow some of the warm air to escape. The slit I made is about a 1/2" wide and 4" tall. I put the back panel back on and pushed the fridge back against the wall. I left an air gap (not pushing it right up against the wall). The fridge started making the knocking noise again in a while. Now it's been a day or two and I have to say it's definitely better. I hear the knocking occasionally, but it's far less frequent.
Seems like could be is a venting issue, but I'm certainly not an appliance pro. Would love to read some educated comments... The fridge works fine otherwise.

The sound was coming from the auger. I removed the auger and it stopped. I turned off the ice maker and saw that the plastic try that guided the water to fill the cube tray was broken. Take the back cover off when it's knocking and figure out which part is making the noise and go from there. Just make sure you keep your hands out of any fan blades. Not to many electro - mechanical things can be diagnosed without power applied.

Hello Debra and others. Take a look at my reply to Alek Vila. I also have a Whirlpool side by side fridge purchased in 2006. It's been knocking like that since 2012 but otherwise it works fine.
