When you are trying to decide if you can work at a location have the airb&b or hotel owner do a speedcheck and copy it and send it to you, this way no surprises when you get there

Rome2rio is my personal favorite!! It tells you how to get from point A to point B with public transportation and it is very detailed. If you’re in Europe for example and traveling across all countries it tells you the prices of taking a train a bus or a ride share. It is very helpful! And I love that it always gives you the approximate prices!

Global blue is great if you’re going to Europe from the US, Canada, and other non EU countries. It allows you to get the taxes back on certain items above a certain amount (excluding food and entertainment/sites). Each country is different, and global blue allows you to see all the participation nations, their tax back rates and the amount you need to spend in order to qualify. It also shows you all of the stores that you can get tax back from in a specific country, their location and much much more. You just have to make sure that when you’re about to ring up your items you inform the cashier that you need a tax back form.

TripIt is my all time favourite. Add in all bookings - flights, hotels, transport, excursions etc. This app will add it to your calendar, also accesses Google Maps to show you all the restaurants, cafes, ATMs, parking etc in the area. Can add in Google maps of nearby laundromats and many more. It’s free and a way for family and friends to also access your itinerary while away. Used it for my last 4 trips and counting.
Only 25 days until my UK, France holiday - TripIt just reminded me.
Thx Nadine, apps are our saviour. 😄

Useful video thankyou. Komoot is a good one for hikers or photographers looking for legal footpaths. In the UK we have public footpaths, which doesnt mean a sidewalk! It means a public right of way through farmers fields more often than not and theyre everywhere, though you probably wouldnt know it unless you were a local. Grass fields with sheep or cows and normally you can barely make them out but they app shows you more or less where it runs. More obvious in summer as those running through wheat fields are actually maintained free of wheat! Farmers have to keep them access free. Found everywhere but good for hiking along the coast, in mountains like Wales, Lake District, Scotland or just around places of interest like big country house estates or around castles. Styles, gates and bridges are also provided to cross ditches, fences and walls. Komoot isnt free and shows these trails globally, viewranger is free but more for the UK. Very useful for photographers and hikers.

i use "trip case" it helps organize plane bookings, gives alerts with flight times or gate changes etc. you can also add accommodations as well as car rentals and any excursions. another one i use is "pay range". i think it might be only in north america for now, but basically you add a credit card to your account then you can use it at airports or bus stations or train stations that have vending machines and you connect your phone through blue tooth and you can make payments for snacks or drinks from the vending machines. it helps not have to carry a bunch of change around. of course not all vending machines are pay range compatible so you still may have to bring money just in case!!! great video. cheers!

Great video Nadine! Another super useful feature of Google Translate is the voice input. When I was in Japan, sometimes I would ask a local to speak into my phone so we could understand each other. The translations aren't perfect but it makes it a lot easier to communicate! Like having a kind of interpreter there with you :)

For those people wondering if Kiwi.com is reputable, yes, they are as long as you don’t miss your flight. They are all made on one way tickets, with 2 or 3 layovers to get to your destination. I used it to go to 2 different places using multicity option. Didn’t miss a flight, and all went well!

You should check out the Transit app! Tells you in real time when the buses/subways are coming based on your gps info or can be used like google maps to get a public transit itinerary. Works in Montreal and Vancouver and I gathered it works elsewhere too. It can even notify you when it’s time to get off the bus!! Changed my life!

Roadtrippers is an awesome app if you're, well, road tripping. It allows you to create a trip, add multiple stops along the way, can calculate your gas expenses, and will show you cool stops and restaurants and stuff along your route! It also has pre-made itineraries so you can go on an epic road trip with like... half the planning.

The most important app to have is Careem (or just Uber if the acquisition goes through). Even if you need to cross the street, it's so frightening you probably need a ride or a local to help you like an old lady.
I also used XE more than in other places.

Tricount is awesome when it comes to summing up and dividing costs of anything while traveling, paid by specific persons - in terms of who owes whom how much ;) used it on multiple occasions, never regretted :) it also let’s you synch your account with your friends’ profiles, so that they can also add expenses on their own.

I found a packing app a while back that has been awesome. It’s called Packr. You can use it for free or for 0.99 unlock all the features. It will generate a packing list for you based on length of trip, location, time of year, and what activities you plan on doing. You can tweak the lists to be more personal too. It’s pretty awesome to make sure you don’t miss anything.

    • @vladutcornel
      @vladutcornel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

When you land, look for local carrier stores (They may be right in the airport). Buy a SIM with a data plan.
If your phone is not carrier locked - get a dumb phone and put your regular SIM in it, so you can still get called.
If it is locked - Get a cheap phone that supports LTE and can do hotspot and put the local SIM in it. You may need to also invest in a good external battery if you do this.
Just have both phones while you are there.

Google Trips is awesome. You can look through all kinds of see-worthy places and mark the ones you are interested in. And Google with go ahead and suggest an itenarary based on how much time you have got in that place. I use it for research but also pinning suggestions of restaurants so once you're there, you have options and possible ideas of where to go. Highly recommend!
