A note on TIP 72, which I feel like I need to clarify: I meant this as an “if you are boarding late/last” situation. Not just anytime you board. Obviously, we all want the space above our heads, but for those boarding last I’ve seen them get to their seats and there is no more space, and then the flight attendant just ends up taking their bag up front anyways. It was meant more as a save time tip, not to be discourteous to your fellow passengers :)
Sometimes they offer to check bags at the gate free of charge, I have done this before. I think its a good option, if you dont need your bag durring the flight, and especially if you have no connections. The bag will get taken from the door of the plane down to the ground and then loaded directly into the plane, so you will know 100% that your bag is on the plane (as long as you arnt the last person arriving, or late).
Not sure everyone watching your video would take the time to read the comments section and see your "clarification". You should really REMOVE this "tip" as placing bags at the front of the plane way forward of a seat allocation is an increasing problem.
Always print out a copy of everything and keep it in a clear sleeved binder in your carry on. Much easier to look through quickly and keeps it organized
I bring a plastic shopping bag and put that inside that yucky seat holder and then I can put my stuff inside without it touching that yucky mesh holder! At end of flight I throw it out! Great video Nadine!
Just back from Australia, 21 hours in total flying. Tips, warm jumper, compression socks, lip balm and eye drops (my eyes felt really dry). Wipes (anti bacterial and face wipes). Stop watching TV when eating, enjoy your food . Exercise at the back of the plane, squats, knee raises etc. Dubai airport is really big but it is very well sign posted plus you can always ask. Free showers in the toilets next to my gate! I dried myself off with a flannel!. Sleep on the plane if you can that is the best tip I can give!
I was born into a military family and was myself a soldier. I loved all of your tips and am surprised how simple and sensible most of them are. A few additions to consider: 1. As most men don't carry purses, I bring a large wallet on a lanyard that I've adjusted to my comfort. It is "RF proof" so credit cards can't be scanned, large enough for passport/ boarding passes/ money/ thumb drives and sd cards/ even cell phone. With the exception of security checks, it is always around my neck. If I lost everything else, this small item is everything I would need to arrive with. 2. My carry on has all my needed toiletries and and quick change of clothes (to include a pair of shower shoes) in case I'm forced to stay a prolonged time at an unplanned layover. 3. I've traveled at times with injuries and discovered that the longer direct flights can be quite uncomfortable so routes with an extra flight change can be a better option (Denver to Tokyo direct once did a number on my back). 4. Just to enhance your point on dressing in layers for the flight.. where and when you're traveling must play a part in your planning. Returning to find my car during a blizzard in Colorado Springs from the summer time in Manila made forethought a joyous point of pride! Good work!
Thank you for your service. I was a sailer. Good tips, definitely will look into getting a good bag for the number 1 tip. Never thought about your third tip, but definitely makes sense. Last time I flew overseas there were no direct flights lol.
Hey Nadine, nice tips. The connection one was good esp if you are transferring to or from a domestic flight to an international flight, or if your flight and your connecting flight are in different terminals. Personally I only use paper boarding passes, as if you only have a digital pass your phone may run out of power, or you could be having issues trying to get the pass on your screen to be scanned, or the scanner will have issues trying to scan your digital psss. The last tip is one of your most important tips and should have been one of your first ones lol. Definitely makes the airport and flight experience more enjoyable and it may have unexpected benefits.
7:51 - If you're checking a bag and especially if you are switching from one airline to another or crossing borders - once you check your bag, check the baggage tag and even ask the person you're checking in with, and make sure it's checked through to your final destination airport. If it's not make sure you remember to collect it at the stop over
I'm a seasoned solo traveler and these were some awesome tips! Never thought to hop on a hotel shuttle 😂 That's amazing and I'm totally trying it! Thanks, Nadine!
I have one to add, if you are traveling in Winter, and flying out of a cold weather location, skip the first flight of the day if possible. There is a greater risk of delays for deicing, and complications that come with. Aircraft are turned off after the last flight of the day, so there is a high probability expecially in smaller aircraft for iced water lines, etc.
Can confirm, plus APU's (auxiliary power units) may fail to cooperate, resulting in further delays in getting the aircraft powered up. These small engines are what initially power onboard pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic systems in the absence of power from main engines and are also used to start the main engines (the big ones that actually propel the plane).
The connection time is paramount. If I can choose a longer one, I will because delays happen. I always choose an isle seat in the front so I can get off the plane fast to make my connection and a window for the last leg. Paper docs are best. I printed my immigration QR code for the Dominican. The QR codes weren't working on phones when we landed. I was able to bypass practically everyone who had to use their phone bc mine was printed out.
These are all great tips! One thing to keep in mind is that different airlines will also have different boarding procedures which may not necessarily board from the back to the front (Delta being a big example). Great video!
Same with Alaska Airlines. They board based on a plethora of factors like the type of fare you bought (first class boards first), your status with the airline, etc. My last flight with them I was in the second boarding group, but at the last minute they just had everyone line up and board at the same time. I had been out staying out of the way of the boarding area and ended up being one of the last on the plane. I had to put my carry on suitcase in row 20, but I was sitting in row 11. Really frustrating because it delays getting off the flight.
I'm actually surprised that there are airlines that board ppl in a specific order...??? I don't get it why they would do this. Like... priority passenger first, then everyone else. In arrival order.
I have never been on an airline that assigned seats and boarded back to front, although I have frequently commented (even to flight attendants) that it would make so much more sense. Southwest doesn't pre-assign seats, so it is possible then to head directly to the back and sometimes their planes even have a second jetway leading to the tail area. But normally you have a seat and a boarding zone number that predetermines the order of boarding which is generally front the front to the back, which slows down everything as people try to find overhed room.
You don't get a cold from being cold though. The name is misleading. You always get a cold through viral infection, it just happens to be the case that dried out mucous membranes are more susceptible to successful infections. Also we spend way more time in closed, badly ventilated rooms with other people in winter than in any other period of the year. Cold feet are annoying, but they do not change your chances of catching a cold sickness. Due to the bad name this misinformation about the sickness cold is sadly widespread.
Yes, have a change of socks too. If your socks are damp your feet will not warm up. Another thing I like to do is take the free/cheap hotel slippers with me when I travel via air. I will slip off my comfy travel shoes and slip into the cheap slippers. I will walk all over the plane in them too. Then I toss them.

Additional TRAVEL Tips for MILITARY FOLKS: 1. Call your travel credit card company. Some will waive those nasty high annual fees for active duty personnel. 2. Don't travel in your uniform, especially during foreign travel. 3. Check with the airline rules on baggage for military travelers. Sometimes airlines allow additional free bags. 4. 10. Pack smartly. In some official travel situations, you're only allowed duffel bags, backpacks, or military gear. I've had a unique situation where I crossed the ocean on a ship but flew on a plane on the way back. For that return flight, at times I had to find a way to pick up all 5 of my wheel-less bags at once (they totaled at over 200lb/90kg) and walk (luckily, only for short distances). I weigh 130lb/59kg.
Excellent video! Most comprehensive and straight to the point that I've seen yet!! Well done... I'm sure you've helped so many travelers already. Love it. 💕💕😊
If you’re travelling with other people, check in the bag that you think is going to be heaviest first so then you can move things from that bag into others that are underweight and avoid paying the fee
Bad advice about grabbing overhead space before your seat-that is totally unfair to those sitting there, who will be forced to store their bags past their seats, causing chaos.
This is only assuming that the plane and overhead space is already full. Like if you are one of the last to board. Obviously this isn't a desirable option for anyone since I'm sure most would like their bag overhead their own seat.
@@wd1598 thank you! I’ve seen way too much chaos caused by people trying to get their bags in way before their seat. I have found that there is more available storage place in the back of the plane, anyway, so it is very likely there will be available overhead space if you happen to be sitting in the back. If you are the last on, the flight attendants will direct you. Trying to force your things in on your own before you have determined there is no space in the back of the plane is not the way to go.
Don’t randomly put your carry on bag over someone else’s seat, just because it’s convenient, on your way to the back of the plane. The person sitting in that seat may need to use it. Sorry, have to disagree with one of your suggestions!
I agree it’s annoying but sometimes you don’t have a choice. When space runs low on some areas flight attendants will get you to put your bag above other people. Unfortunately just the way it is sometimes 😕

Obviously we all want the space above our heads, but for those boarding last I’ve seen then get to their seats and there no more space and then the flight attendant just ends up taking their bag up front anyways.
great tips. I've watched and learned through experience so many tips but, luckily was open minded enough to watch yours and learn a few more that I will definitely use and would never have thought of otherwise.
I disagree with a couple of things. Not all airlines board back to front. Delta boards front to back. If you sit at the back on a full flight on Delta they will eventually make you check your carry on. We almost got caught on this. I also don’t agree with putting your luggage over someone else’s seat. If they are in their seat, ask first. If they aren’t there yet, than they will likely need the space. Plus you are going to hold up the unloading by having to stop and get your luggage down.
Unless you have somebody accompanying you who isn’t flying out and can take home excess gear if you’re overweight, those scales are kind of pointless. The time to weigh is before you leave.
Wow! I will be viewing this video a couple of times, I am sure. Could have used a few of these yesterday when my worst travel experience yet happened. A simple flight down to Florida took 13 hours. Example: 1.5 hours at the baggage claim, 2 hours 45 min in line for a rental car, then add a couple more unnecessary lines. Exhausting.
Here’s a tip that I didn’t hear you mention. Sign up for TSA pre-check. It’s $78 for five years I believe. And it eliminates a lot of things that you have to do. Depending on your flight, a.k.a. domestic versus international, a lot of the things that they normally check on the regular line they do not check. You don’t have to remove your shoes, your belts, your electronics and things. they don’t want you to take them out of the bags/suitcases. You just put your carry-on and your personal item on the belt, it goes through and if they don’t have any questions, you’re off and running. And the TSA pre-check line is super short. (Oh, Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything about this. L O L).
So glad to have watched this! I always think that travel is made easier when you have the best travel gear and essentials too. The bento bag from Nomad Lane is my best carry-on bag for travels like this. Thought I'd share it with you, too! :)
I’ve used Twitter DMs to my airline when flights are cancelled as frequently the service line at the airport is understaffed for a whole planeload of stranded passengers
Great Tipps thanks! A few more, bring a mask when sick, bring a bag instead using space in front of you, bring empty water bottle (at least in Europe to refill at airport and save 5 euros for half a liter)
Just a tip not to judge every security line by the people around you. I have been behind someone I assumed was a business traveler who apparently hadn't traveled in 20 years or so. Last month we were behind a woman in her 60s and her adult daughter. The older woman's carryon was holding up the line as my children and I stood there waiting to pass. Often families are nervous about air travel so they're more conscientious about following TSA rules.
Oh sure, it's always old people. (actually I know you meant in this case) Last time I breezed past an entire line of young folks and families, and that's with lace up boots. Experience, y'all, that's all I can say.
Also with my travel documents once I scan them I send them to my self as emails. Separate emails for different types of documents. So for example, say you need to replace a passport, one email would be a copy of the information page from the passport plus copies of birth certificate and other documents normally needed for obtaining a passport for you country. Other emails for credit and debit cards including information how to cancel or replace cards. List of medical prescriptions, eye glasses prescription, etc if you need any of these. Better to have access instead of trying to contact you doctor back home. A list of valuable items taken such as phone, laptops, etc with detail such as make, model, serial number and value in case you need to make an insurance claim. An email with my travel insurance. Email with travel itinerary and tickets, etc.
I've been wondering how to prevent blood clots while flying as they run in my family and I've been scared ever since what happened to Luke perry. Thank you so much for the advice about the socks! Great information!!
My airline changed my original nonstop flight to a layover flight.. I had originally picked seats in the back but now with the layover I tried to change the seats but all the free seats are already picked lol and I’m not paying more. 🥴 the layover is an 1hr and 55mun so hopefully we have no delays
Frozen liquids are NOT allowed through security at Canadian Airports, per CATSA website it has to be solid *at room temperature* to not be considered a liquid. (Exemptions for breast milk and ice packs but your water bottle is a no go)
You search for it on Google and find the site related to you country you are flying in and/or into. It'll usually be a government website or from and authoritative body. There are also many third party sites that allow you to enter your flight details and it'll tell you if you entitled to anything.
18:20 So true, on a flight in 2022, the airline I was flying with played a video emphasising "Hygiene Excellence", and then showed how clean they were by spraying a disinfectant spray before takeoff. When I was going to put my phone in the seatback pocket, I found a sick bag- with actual vomit in it- WTF. I called the flight attendant, and she didn't seem very shocked by it, and probably assumed that I was the one who had thrown up in the bag, even though I told her that it was there from before.
Many, many airlines do this. Aside from business & first class , which will board first. But general boarding will go back to front . US airlines and budgets airlines also sometimes differ
It seems like no matter whether I am in the front or back, I am always boring last and fighting for overhead bin space. I spent 14,000 miles to get a preferred seat on my last flight and was still in Zone 6! 😢

Obviously we all want the space above our heads, but for those boarding last I’ve seen then get to their seats and there no more space and then the flight attendant just ends up taking their bag up front anyways.
Sometimes you have to, and the space is not assigned.
Thanks for sharing, this will definitely make traveling easier!👍
Cool tips! So useful for our next trip!
Awesome job Nadine
Thank you!
No problem
This is really helpful 😊
Plus you are going to hold up the unloading by having to stop and get your luggage down.
i have to agree with you. :)
I have been watching your videos for a long time and you always make the best content.
Why thank you 😊
Hey Nadine! Great video, thank you.
you are welcome
Here in Australia we have scales at our airports to weigh our bags before getting to the check in counter :)

Exhausting.
Oh no! That sounds rough :/ sorry to hear about that. Hopefully the destination makes that hassle worth it
I always watch thid video when i have post holiday blues hehe
Thanks for the tips
I’ve used Twitter DMs to my airline when flights are cancelled as frequently the service line at the airport is understaffed for a whole planeload of stranded passengers
Yes! Twitter works really well for this, although Twitter itself is a bit tricky with reliability lol
This list is GREAT!!
If you are 1st time travllers iy helps a lot❤
Such a great video! ☺️
:)
You can ask your hotel desk if you cam borrow a phone charger - sometimes they have ones people left behind.
I’ve actually never been on a plane that boarded back to front. My daughter said AeroMexico does occasionally but I’ve never experienced it.
I always carry a change of clothes, and xtra toothbrush and paste in my personal item bag. In the event suitcase is lost, late etc.
*Thank you Miss Sykora.* *Smiles*
Great Tipps thanks! A few more, bring a mask when sick, bring a bag instead using space in front of you, bring empty water bottle (at least in Europe to refill at airport and save 5 euros for half a liter)
top content!!!
Excellent video with great ideas and reminders! 19:54 (#96) is an amazing idea!!!
Hi! ❤ in March on the 20th I’m traveling! This is very helpful
Me watching this knowing damn well I’m not going travelling any time soon 😢
wow , thanks
Love travel weight my suit case at local vet clinic before go to my trip so I still have more time trip
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
I've been wondering how to prevent blood clots while flying as they run in my family and I've been scared ever since what happened to Luke perry. Thank you so much for the advice about the socks! Great information!!
Sockwell makes excellent compression socks
Chlorophyll and magnesium 💚
Gre8 video
Great tips. Thanks.
6:24 cute heels ❤. I wish I could pack that neatly lol
Nadine, You sound like one of us and so are all your tips. I don't like videos very often but this one has my like.
My airline changed my original nonstop flight to a layover flight.. I had originally picked seats in the back but now with the layover I tried to change the seats but all the free seats are already picked lol and I’m not paying more. 🥴 the layover is an 1hr and 55mun so hopefully we have no delays
That is frustrating. It happened to me when I originally had 1 stop and then turned to two and didn't like it one bit! Grrrrr
Frozen liquids are NOT allowed through security at Canadian Airports, per CATSA website it has to be solid *at room temperature* to not be considered a liquid. (Exemptions for breast milk and ice packs but your water bottle is a no go)
Great stuff Nadine!!! Hey where do you find about Airline compensation?
You search for it on Google and find the site related to you country you are flying in and/or into. It'll usually be a government website or from and authoritative body. There are also many third party sites that allow you to enter your flight details and it'll tell you if you entitled to anything.
Saline gel for your nose!
I would like to know if i wear jacket that in the jacket have power bank, charger etc. Does the weight count with 7kg carry on luggage?
This was really helpful! 🤍
I called the flight attendant, and she didn't seem very shocked by it, and probably assumed that I was the one who had thrown up in the bag, even though I told her that it was there from before.
switch to bars for shampoo and conditioner and avoid the possibility of leaks
Yes this is a good packing hack :) I left out several packing hacks to just be more specific to do the airplane and airports
You’re the best friend
Why thank you :)
@@heynadine i feel like I’m on vacation with you
I fly several times a year. Since when have airlines boarded back to front? It's always been front to back for me
Many, many airlines do this.
SO many good tips!!!
yay!
I recommend packing a bathtub stopper. If a hostel has a bathtub, they may not have any stopper. So disappointing.
Where did you get the stickers for your suitcase from?
WHERE DID YOU FIND THE GREEN CANVAS LOOKING BACKPACK, PLEASE?
when you showed your phone it was my birthday that day March 4th
Thans for the vidio..🙏🙏
Great tips. What are some good travel cards that allow VIP access to airport lounges? I have two super long layovers?
Bring a large zip lock bag or 2 to slip on anything you want to slip into the pocket. Then you can throw them away.
