      As a Yankee fan since 84, they barely survived this series. All the teams from 04-19 had below average starting pitching, as a result, they stopped winning championships.

    So many things come to mind. This lineup was completely ridiculous. Gary Sheffield was an absolute psycho crusher who had so many big hits this year.
    Looking back I really cant help but wish the Twins just would have won this game. It might have spared so much unimaginable pain (even though MINN probably would have blown a 2-0 lead anyway). I also think the Yankees would have been able to rebound a lot better in the playoffs in 05,06,07 if they did not collapse v Boston.
    Hopefully 2022 brings us a title.

    Crazy to think how close the twins were to going up 2-0 in the alds that year against the Yankees, also how close it came to going 5 games had it not been for ruben Sierra's homer in game 4. Really shows how mediocre the Yankees starting rotation was in 04. They really didn't crush the twins in 04 like they did in 03, despite winning in 4 games again. Great offense & a tremendous bullpen the Yankees had in 04. However it starts with your starting pitching. It shows how much trouble they were gonna be in going into the alcs.

    • @collinf4228
      @collinf4228 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. The departures of Clemens and Pettitte really came back to bite them badly. Sort of reminds me of when they didn't resign Damon and Matsui for 2010 and had them replaced by Nick Johnson and Randy Winn. Really came back to hurt them in the ALCS.

    Jeter had some power damnn⚡️

    • @richardtherichard26
      @richardtherichard26 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun fact: jeter obviously not well renowned for his power, is 4th all time in post season homers with 20. During his career in the regular season he hit 260 hrs in over 12,000 plate appearances. Averaging a homer every 48.5 pa. However in the playoffs, he would ramp those power numbers up a tad. Hitting a homer every 36.7 pa. While it may not seem like much, quick math tells me that means jeter was 25% more likely to hit a homer in any given playoff plate appearance than a regular season one. So while not known for having power, he could certainly flex when it came to October (or November)

    Looking back at the 2004 roster this was one of the better Yankee teams of that era. That Boston ALCS meltdown was bound to happen eventually after years of Yankee domination. It was just a matter of time. Because of that famous loss to boston after leading the ALCS 3-0 most people wrongly write off the 04 Yankees as a bad team. Not true they easily had the talent to win the world series that year and this team was alot better than most of that era. It was just time for the curse to end after decades of completely owning the red sox and the 04 Yankees just happened to be the team on the field when it finally happened.

      Yankees had a young kid, they got from the dodgers. He could throw heat. Scott proctor. Why they didn't add him to the bullpen, is beyond me. He could have helped. Rookie or not.

    • @vladiator8120
      @vladiator8120 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a bad team starting pitching wise. Beyond Mussina, they didn't have good starting pitching. Their bullpen was very good but their bullpen was so exhausted going into the playoffs, that meltdown was bound to happen. The bullpen had been overworked at the end of the season. The offense which was good all year had something to do with the meltdown obviously. But you look at how Torre went with Brown for game 7, that tells you how terrible their starting pitching options were.
