Maybe so but those pathetic Jeter wimpy HR's to right are truly embarrassing. The one against Baltimore should've been waved off. Probably more than half of Jeter's career homeruns were a foot over that absolutely pathetic beyond belief right field porch.
It was truly a mistake for the Yankees to replicate those stupid dimensions in the current Yankee Stadium for a franchise who is not well known for great starting pitching. Should've built a pitcher friendly stadium like Dodgers Stadium, Angels Stadium or the Giants Stadium. Places like Yankee Stadium and the total joke, little league stadium "Fenway" ought to be banned outright. Like Brett Pussy Gardener and Tyler Sissy Wade.

I was at Game 5 of the 2001 Series and when Brosius hit that HR with 2 outs like that the place just went insane, the most exhilarating moment of my life still. Went with my father, one of my best memories. Strangers hugging and high fiving, it was simply electric.
This makes me realize 2 things. The Yankees in the 90s and early 2000s was a once in a lifetime team, the Yankees now couldn’t wipe this old teams ass. Also, Old Yankee stadium was the mecca. We really fucked up by tearing it down.
It was once in a lifetime. They are the wild card era aberration. The playoffs are way too random for repeat champions or dynasties.
The new Stadium sucks, that place shook we the team did something great.

The 1998-2001 Yankees were the best team in MLB history. They were nearly impossible to beat.

Only one American League team had a winning record over them in that span. The angels were 21-17.

In this series, where the YANKEES had the better record, they were denied home field, ADV, and in all 7 games, the home team won. Had the Yankees had Game 7 at home, they would have won, like they should have. And for that stupid son of a bitch who naively commented "Hold our beer, 2001 Diamondbacks", he should never even be allowed to follow baseball ever again, if he thinks those idiots, were anything special. They were not, and history will prove so. One hit wonder, by winning it all with undeserved home field advantage.
These were the best times...watching every Yankees game during this era was such a joy and we were spoiled as fans.

This makes me miss the old stadium and the old days and players and the way the game was played and the way the players hustled and had a passion for the game.....
Became a Yankees fan before I started grade school. Been a fan ever since. I remember watching most of these games, and hearing Sterling on the radio calling plays for my favorite ball player (Mattingly). The 95 series still hurts, but it taught the Yankees about losing and man did we dominate the next five years. Loved watching Jeter, Posada, Martinez, O'Neil, Williams,, Soho, Petite and Rivera. Back when the Yankees had a true team with chemistry.
I feel you. Mattingly was my favorite as well. I had posters of his on my wall and shirts with him on it and tons of Mattingly baseball cards. 95 was a tough, tough year for a fan of the Yankees and especially for a fan of Donny. What a run the Yanks had in those years you mentioned. Pure baseball just dripped off of those playoff years. I will never forget it. Cheers.

I was in the right field bleachers for the Mattingly home run. The most exciting, loudest and insane moment I have ever experienced in person. Nothing comes close.
The Yanks run from ‘95-2003 was nothing short of phenomenal! Losing the ‘03 series was disappointing, it should have been Cubs/Yanks, but they got beat. ‘01 was the biggest heartbreak considering the great game 4 & 5 comebacks in the 9th.

Watching the 1996 highlights, I don't think it gets stated enough on how big a pickup Cecil Fielder was for the Yankees. He had some big hits in that 1996 postseason especially in the World Series.

These are the Yankees I grew up watching, it was incredible to watch. The Yankees from 1997 to 2000 were untouchable. How many other teams win consecutive series let alone 4 in a row.. just amazing to witness.
They won 96 98 99 and 2000
They won 14 straight ws’s games too you’ll never see that happen again, they won 4 straight in 96 down 0-2 to the 96 braves, they swept the padres in 98, they swept the braves in 99, and won the first 2 games of the subway series in 2000, thats 14 straight ws’s wins in a row!’😮, you will never see that happen again.
These Yankees teams were whole lot tougher than the present Yankees team. Jeter, Posada,Williams, O'Neil, Tino, etc always came up with clutch hits with runners in scoring position. Today's Yankees Judge, Sanchez, Stanton, Gardner,Hicks,etc always choke and strike out with runners in scoring position.

Can you be appreciative? Judge is an insane batter in clutch situations and Stanton and Gardner have been really cruical pieces for us this year. Yeah, we don't have the people we used to. But that doesn't mean that this team we have today deserves to be shit on. They're a great team as well. Stop dwelling on the past and move the fuck on.

True....however a few things. Baseball was different back then, the entire league had a batting average 40 points higher than today so hits were generally more likely. Also starters went deeper, bullpens werent as good so strikeouts were far less likely.
And most importantly....postseason baseball is incredibly random and basically a coin flip or crapshoot bc the sample sizes are so small and theres 3 rounds.....the 96 to 2000 Yanks were great, clutch but also if Im gonna be honest, very very lucky. Fan interference, umpires in the way, 2-2 pitches right over the plate called balls, followed by grandslams, 74 bouncers up the middle, Todd Zeille's double basically rolling on top of the wall for a good 10 seconds, ONeill's catch to end Game 5 in 96.

They were just better teams. What you're not used to is other team's being able to punch the Yankees back. the 90's weren't exactly Sandlot kids. They had a bench consisting of Strawberry, Raines, Fielder, Boggs, Sierra. That was the bench.....and Tino, Posada, Jeter, Rivera, O'Neill, Bernie....these were great players, they were just better than the modern team that is still young and BUILDING towards a championship.
@@mikeshoe74 I agree somewhat. There's definitely more parity now than there was back then, & the modern team has simply been outplayed (instead of it being an issue of heart). However, with the current team, they've been "building" for 5 years now. A lot of them aren't that young anymore (Judge in particular, who's about to turn 30 & has certainly had his fair share of injuries), &/or have regressed tremendously over the last few years (Sanchez & Gleyber, for example). Also, I think there is an issue in regards to their mentality, but it's not that they lack mental toughness. The mentality issue is that the modern team are complete slaves to the analytics (especially offensively). Relying exclusively on walks & home runs doesn't win in October. The modern team lacks speed, athleticism, contact hitting, etc., & that (along with the increased parity) bites them in the @$$ in October. Even the '09 team, for all the home runs that they hit, weren't completely reliant on it. They still had guys who could do other things (Jeter, Damon, etc.)
@@ellandecampbell6279 For starters, people need to relax off the past season and a half, it has not been traditional baseball with CovId and all. Lots of players missed time with that. 10 days here and there adds up. What people are also forgetting is they deadened the ball in 2021. That was brutal to guys like LeMahieu, Torres and co. Gleyber is not a 30+ homer guy, neither is LeMahieu, when 20 or so balls that left park years prior are now winding up in mitts, that's a nice dip in average, and a tough adjustment in approach. Analytics today are not an option, they're a necessity. It is a pitching dominant era right now. Every batter is pitched and positioned in the field to a science. The league average last year was .244, the lowest it's been since 1972 with 2020, and 2018 not far behind. A rabbit ball was used in 2019 when 50+ players hit 30+ homers in a season, average that year was at .252. Home runs are important right now. of the top 10 teams in batting average last year, only 3 of those made the playoffs, while 8 of the top 10 home run hitting teams made the playoffs, the Blue Jays (who hit the most) being one of the 2 teams who didn't and they missed by a game or 2. this is why Joey Gallo has value right now. That solo blast has become a more likely outcome than a 3 hit rally. Look at the past playoffs and world series. If you watch what I watched, you saw home runs. Most every run that crossed the plate was via the long ball. It is what it is. The Nationals hit .21 points better than the Yankees did as a team, how'd that work out for them? I don't rally for all this, I'm old school myself, it's just recognizing the scenario. These guys are all throwing in the upper 90's...it's not easy to punch and judy that type of pitching, or steal bases on that velocity.... if it was, then why wasn't it executed verse Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson? Lastly, be careful in wishing away Gary Sanchez, he's 27 yrs old, and still one of the better hitting catchers right now at 6mil a year. Perez, Grandall, Realmuto, they make close to 20mil a year...Sanchez is playing for a contract in 2022. I personally say ride his motivation to a pay day, and let him sign elsewhere. Either way, he's next year's catcher for sure.

I watched a video the other day of last out of the World Series and listening to Joe Buck announce the World Series winners is usually horrendous. There were a couple of them where he actually sounded excited but anytime he called the Yankees winning the World Series that I remember he almost sounded mad to me. Except in 96 he kind of had a little bit of excitement in his voice. I'll take Bob Costas talkin about how Mariano Rivera used to make baseball gloves out of milk cartons over Joe Buck any day

That guy traded away all the young talent in the 80's, especially the pitching talent for feature attractions. George cared most about headlines. It was Gene Michael that changed the mindset during Steinbrenner's suspension that led to the late 90's dynasty...finally keeping guys like Jeter, Bernie, Mariano (3 guys that George wanted traded). When the Yankees did spend like drunken sailors in the 2000's, getting Giambi, Mussina and company, they had no more success than they do now. They eventually stumbled into championship in 2009. Why didn't Torre continue to win throughout the 2000's with teams that were even more talented on paper than the 90's squad, and they still had the core 4 remaining in their prime? Core 5 if you wanna count Bernie? The Yankees haven't had a losing season since 1992. Think that's easy to do? That's not caring?
Even if the Yanks would’ve won the Seattle series in 95, you guys would’ve lost to the Indians in the ALCS
@@mikeshoe74 I know this comment is a bit late, but I don't think Stick Michael gets enough credit, present day, for the 90s success. If George never got suspended, the dynasty might not have happened. The Yankees ended up on the losing end of a lot of trades in the 80s for the players that caught George's eye. He was their GM back then, no matter who actually had the job. A lot of fans, including me, were cheering when he got suspended in 1990. Can you just imagine, if George never got suspended and Gene was never given control, Jeter and Mo probably would have been traded because of their early struggles. George traded Al Leiter for a declining Jesse Barfield due to early struggles. And if he wanted to get rid of Bernie, Roberto Kelly would have probably been in CF, which means no Paul O'Neill. The 90s might have looked very different. After all, the Yankees were the worst team in the AL when George got suspended.
Old Yankee stadium will forever be missed
Soriano's go-ahead HR against Schilling in the 2001 WS game 7 should've been included though. It's great to watch these clips, not a Yankees fan, but appreciate the quality team they put together and all the achievements. Nice video.
What a time to be a kid. I was a Yankee fan before i could walk. In the mid 90s, my favorite players were Don Mattingly, Bernie Williams and Paul O'Neill. In April 1997, I got Derek's autograph at a game vs Seattle (my first trip to Yankee Stadium). Getting to experience all of these wonderful moments will forever be some of my favorite memories of growing up. Now, in 2022, I brought my youngest son to his first Yankee game and got to share Judge's chase for 62 together. Sad about how the ALCS played out but we will be ready to support our boys again in 2023. #YankeeFansForLife

Yes indeed, Donnie No Rings, is only second to Derek Jeter, in the all time greatest category. And by all means, make Don Mattingly, Yankees Manager, so he can under achieve once again, which he most certainly would. Tino Martinez was a far better first baseman and Yankee than Don Mattingly. Classy guy, hell yes. Winner... well, how many rings did he win? Case closed. And going to the nauseating Dodgers as Manager, says a lot about his respect for Yankees history. Young and naive people have no clue how deep the Yankees vs Dodgers rivalry was for decades. More so than the Yankees vs Roid Sox rivalry EVER was. But it was the best rivalry and most heated rivalry in all of sports, behind only the Celtics/Lakers. And Big Don, ran straight to the Dodgers, when they came a calling. That's unforgivable. And he couldn't even get them INTO the World Series, with a stacked deck, and has been a failure ever since. How predictable of poor Donnie. 🤣🤣🤣

1997, the forgotten season. I think about that one sometimes. If the Yanks beat Cleveland, there would have been an awesome rematch with an improved Baltimore team who had homefield advantage. And possibly a great matchup with a star studded Marlin team in Miami in the WS.
The 97 Yanks were probably better than both the 2000 & 96 squads who won. But it just wasnt in the cards.
I was a huge Yankee fan back in these days. So upset when they lost to Cleveland in 97. However, it’s interesting seeing it from their perspective now. Look up the 97 Indians season on YT. That was a monster team that really should have won a title in the 90s. ✌️
It could have been a better Yankees-Braves rematch than the beat down the Braves received in 1999. Kevin Brown just happened to be unstoppable in the playoffs in '97 and '98 and knocked off the Braves each year.

Game 5 1996 World Series deserves a spot, ONeill makes the game winning catch on a ball that might win it for the Braves…also Timo Perez base running gaffe in G1 2000 WS.
Game 3 2003 ALCS the brawl etc. props for including the 96 road game vs rangers, that rally gets overlooked a lot.
The oneill catch was something else. Polonia kept fouling those wetteland pitches off until he got one he could handle, and drove it to the gap. O'Neil barely got there because he shifted a couple of steps to the right moments before the pitch was thrown.
Oh the memories!! Best 30 minutes spent in a long time.

1996 was my favorite. Losing the 1st two games at home against the juggernaut that was the Braves, many wrote off the Yankees. Somehow they clawed back and won the next 4. That was an amazing World Series!

Just remembering where I was in life during these individual moments takes me to a very beautiful part of my life.
The sound of the pot being hit brings a tear to my eyes and memories flooding. I am so glad to say my childhood was blessed with some of the best Yankees baseball. Someone should out of respect, begin that tradition again at the new stadium.

I maybe the one to say this, but I wish Don Mattingly had remained with the Yankees for the 1996 season. I would have liked to see him get a World Series championship ring.
If mattingly stayed, Tino Martinez would have less playing time….
Great moments.. 1995 leyritz home run call, John sterling with a great call.but of course Michael kay as always had to try and steal the moment lol...he couldn't just allow the fans to enjoy the moment after a great call by sterling,he had to selfishly jump in there and walk all over the moment,sticks his 2 cents in even as color commentator lol

Funny thing with the Jeffrey Maier Home Run. You have the extra umpire, Rich Garcia, in the outfield for situations just like that, and yet, for that particular play, he must've just had a bad angle on it. Also, its amazing all the fortunate moments that Jeter had in the post-season, from that one, to the following year when the ump got in the way of Jermaine Dye going for his foul pop up, and on and on.
That Leyritz homerun in game 4 off Wohlers will forever be my favorite post season moment as a Yankee fan. If you watched that live after the beating the Yanks recieved from the returning world champion team of the 90s braves... You know what I mean. Leyritz was a beast in the postseason.
Not really he just had that one series 1996 and the 1998 World Series. He hit .213 for his career in the playoffs. Why wholers would throw him an off speed pitch when he couldn’t catch up to his fastball was wholers just over thinking.
@@alwillk Leyritz had big post season homeruns in 95 and 96 with the Yankees, he had big post season hits/homeruns for the Padres on there way to the world series in 1998, then returning to NY in 1999 had a big homerun against the braves in that world series as well. I remember Joe Buck joking that Leyritz could spend the season on vacation but just come back for the post season because of his string of clutch hits in the post season from 1995-1999. I'm not sure what his batting average was in the post season. But when Leyritz did hit it usually came at a clutch moment. Leyritz was also the left fielder who lost that fly ball in the sun resulting in Andy Hawkins no hitter loss. Have no idea other than because he was young why the Yanks stuck a catcher/first baseman in left field. But back then they had Mattingly playing LF RF 3B 2B etc which he did well. Late 80s early 90s was hard to watch sometimes
They didn’t show Game 3 of the 1996 World Series when David Cone saved the Yankees from going down 3 games to 0 against the Braves.

Gene Michaels and Bob Watson built that great team. 1996 was the most satisfying World Series. 1998 was the best of that era. Nobody could beat them.
