2005 was a strange year for the Yankees. Started awfully, then turned it around by bringing up Robinson Cano and with the help of players like Aaron Small. They managed to win the Division on the next to last day of season by beating the Red Sox, who also made the playoffs, at Fenway. I think Randy Johnson pitched the clinching game. It was a great, emotional day. But there was one more game, and they mailed it in, losing 10-1 on the season's last day. Meanwhile, down in Texas, Buck Showalter's Rangers kind of mailed it in against the Angels, which gave the Angels home field against the Yankees in the ALDS. I remember the euphoria suddenly evaporating as at that time the Angels basically owned the Yankees, especially when they played in California.
I remember having this on during a hot summer night and almost turning it off but having nothing else better to do. What a game to stick around and watch
Sheffield was my favorite player from his dodgers days despite me growing up near Tampa. This game was almost certainly on TV but Sheffield left the braves where I used to watch every single game, I really didn't watch many games I would just follow him online and see what his numbers were. This is a damn game I wish I had seen haha. This was his last 30-plus home run season as well. He had 25 in 07 despite being plagued with a bad hand or wrist
Ironically also, the Rays did amazing against the Yankees in 2005, only losing one series against them (the final time they played each other in a series in 2005 in September) and the Rays won the season series against the Yankees in 2005 and also against many winning teams. Rays took 3-of-4 from the Yankees in this series in June, and had it not been for this crazy comeback 20 runs by the Yankees, Rays were gonna sweep them
I remember this game like it was yesterday! Lou Pinella was so pissed & disgusted w/ his bullpen, that he decided he wasn’t using anymore pitchers. He basically said to the last reliever, you’ll stay out here until it’s 40-11 if you don’t feel like getting anybody out. I’ve wasted enough arms to give up 20 runs.. Lmao
I remember watching this game and I must've been listening to a radio feed because I think I remember a woman (Suzyn Waldman?) talking about how Tampa Bay has been blowing games all year and how awful Travis Harper felt, looking like he was going to cry.
16:15 That is so dangerous, with the fans running up and down those very low black seats. One trip losing your balance and its all over for the fans falling down
Who are the annoucer? I thought they had went to rays annoucer but no is Paul he just running out of words because this became a HR nightmare for the Rays, Jeter,Posada,Arod,Sheff had a 2 run night but the killa was Sheff,Arod,Godzilla back to back to back oh my
The Yankees came with lightning in the 8th inning...and for some reason its like they always had 15 more runs on Tampa Bay...especially 2 years later (2007) when they pummeled Ray's I think 21-7 and Shelly Duncan had like 2 bombs in that game...someone refresh my memory
I don't know what to tell you, I didn't add any effects to the audio track. Maybe the microphones were adjusted by the MLB sound engineers during the game but it's almost impossible for them to add sound effects to a live game and have it be perfectly in sync with the broadcast, especially in 2005.
Johnson never liked NY but his first year was good. That second year, it's like he lost his stuff. Johnson was a fastball/slider pitcher. That second year he could locate either of those pitches.
Randy in his career mostly pitched in indoor stadiums (Seattle Kingdome, Arizona roof, Astros roof, Expos roof). So now with the Yankees and in that division (except when in Tampa), he was facing teams in open weather and cold weather.
Loved Jim Kaat on the YES Network !
This was my first Yankee game. I will never forget this.
One of the greatest comebacks I’ve ever seen as a Yankees fan 💪💪
@Bread And Circuses no one asked
@breadandcircuses8127 You don't speak for us.
Damn that lineup was TOP TO BOTTOM. Also forget how cool Jeter was. Pimps homeruns without even trying
Between 2002-2009 the Yankees finished 1st in RS 4 times 2nd 3 times. 2008 was the only year they didn't finish in the top 5
I vividly remember this game, particularly the Matsui home run.
I watched the entire game. Awesome comeback. I actually want to watch it again on TH-cam

Those mid 2000 teams had great offenses (which disappeared in Oct) and atrocious pitching (which was exploited in October)

I was so angry over idiot Torre mailing game 162 in. We needed as much HFA we possibly get. MORON.
Angel Stadium was the house of Horrors for the Yankees. The Angels got every bounce, every call, every freak occurrence in that god forsaken place.
@@Surfer041 Plus I recall there was a rain in one game.
Still they should have won Game 5 though, had the Angels dead to rights early on...
The acquisitions of Shawn Chacon and Aaron Small were two other key turning points in the regular season as well.
@@Surfer041 until 2009 anyway
I remember that game, it was crazy.
Thanks for the upload. We needed this right now.
lol no problem!

I was at this game, never gonna forget my dad telling people leaving they was going to miss the greatest comeback in history😂
What’s weird is the Yankees three highest scoring games that season were all against TB.
Ironically also, the Rays did amazing against the Yankees in 2005, only losing one series against them (the final time they played each other in a series in 2005 in September) and the Rays won the season series against the Yankees in 2005 and also against many winning teams.

Pinella never trusted his pen, that is why Nomo stood in the game after giving up 5 runs.
*Yankees fans in the bottom of the 4th*
Alright we need 8 runs
*Yankees players after the 8th*
I thought you said 18
Jim Kaat was amazing
This game was my first time at the old Yankee stadium! Think it was around my 10th birthday
I forgot that Kevin Cash played for the Rays.
What a great game..
The fact they did most of the damage with 2 outs
Did you hear that laugh when sorry i said sheff, but it was the Godzilla the made it 10 to 11 the laugh from the tv annoucer is perfect...
watching this midsummer of 2023 🤕 make us great again
Lou pinella had a nightmares over these game
More great content
Do you have Richie Sexsons walk off slam against Tampa from 2006 or any 2005 Sexson highlights?
Sadly, no.
Good come back!⚾
Was at this game. Johnson looked terrible but the bats came alive. Was in RF bleachers during that rally.
How do we get the radio calls on this game?
I remember watching this on TV with my dad, I was supposed to be doing homework but I didn't care

And Tampa was also up 4 runs with 6 outs to go.... wow

Man i feel so bad for the pitcher but he was throwing everything middle middle
This kind of momentum is LEENDARY

July 22, 2007 - Yankees win 21-4 and Duncan slugs 2 homers in his 4th career game.
@@baseballcinema yes it was that exact game I remember watching that at Rockaway Beach lol
Pinella leaving Harper out there to suffer
I was at this game
When the Bombers were bombing!
Is that a sound effect added when the ball is hit? Why?
No sound effects were added.
@@baseballcinema really? Because the hit @ 14:43 sounds a lot different than just about every other one. even a-rods homerun in the 8th

Do you have Eduardo Perez home run off Mo that year? That guy owned us lol
I don't but I remember that one quite well. I remember Randy Johnson throwing at him and getting ejected once.
Maybe for 2005 where he batted .294 but overall he hit .161.
One is bound to get lucky now and then.
I JUST SAW 31 RUNS , BUT I MOSTLY SAW JORGE CANTU GIVE UP ON 2 PLAYS. AND DAMON HOLLINS IS THE WORST CENTERFIELDER I HAVE EVER SEEN.
I think the game with Boston down 9to 0
What was wrong with Randy Johnson as a Yankee? It’s like he wasn’t his true Cy Young self when he was a Yankee.
Yes, his first year with the Yankees. He was decent that year.
@@salamisumo2 he beat the red sox like 5 times. Not other worldly perfecto but it worked.

That would be Jim Kaat.

Jim Kaat was the absolute WORST
