  • This is a half-hour greatest-hits rail collection of the three years of my recording of the retired fleet of SEPTA's Budd Silverliner IIs and St. Louis Car Silverliner IIIs. There is a video collection with plenty of horn, and then a photo slideshow of the railcars in numerical order. The Silverliner 2 fleet numbering was 201-219, 251-269 (formerly of the Pennsylvania Railroad) and 9001-9017 (from the Reading Company). The Silverliner 3 fleet was 220-239.

    I love these trains so much. I like their classic WABCO-AA2 horns. They continue to be a splendid sight, and sound for many more years to come. And for me, seeing these twin trains. Dreaming about them so often. Whether they're running local, express, and limited services, I would really miss them because they're sleek, modern, fast, reliable, and useful too.

    With the retirement of these MU's, this leaves only NJ Transit, and the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District's South Shore Line, (Chicago) with cars that actually "LOOK" like real MU commuter cars without the fluffy additions and designs! But the new ones are nice...it's nice that NJ Transit aren't copying SEPTA's designs for new railcars. I do believe though that after a few years, they are going to change those annoying oversized "stripes/graphics" on the sides of the new "Silverliner 5" cars with much smaller lettering. The South Shore and NJ Transit's Cars were all based on the same design as the Silverliner IV's. But the SEPTA II and III Cars have that funny operating cab setup that I never could understand. That cab setup key they used...for forward and reverse. It's so different. I have ridden the "Sllverliners" Pennsy and Reading...whenever I visited the area. And I remember one of the cars still said "Pennsylvania" on it...car #269. Is SEPTA still using the Silverliner IV MUs? Those "Horns" are and sound like the ones on old 1926/1950 South Shore Commuter Cars! Thank You for posting this video! :) Well done, Mike. :)

    • @scdevon
      @scdevon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are completely different cars. IIIs were built by St. Louis Car in the mid to late 1960s. IVs were built by GE in the mid 1970s.
      I don't think it's even possible to pair Silverliner IIIs and IVs together in the same train, but maybe I'm wrong. I never saw GE cars mixed with IIs (Budd Cars) and IIIs, but you saw IIs and IIIs mixed together all the time. What differences did you have in mind?
