    America's Eyes Part 5:
The journey had lasted six weeks exactly and Edwards had grown bored of the sea view, nothing but blue sky and blue sea day after day. The merchant vessel had been bringing furs back from the Canada and Edwards had inspected the pelts on the very first day. As soon as he had announced his rank, the ship’s captain had vacated his cabin for him and left Edwards to his own devices, yet the comfort of a cabin had done little to settle his nerves.
“Bristol sir.” the captain said from behind Edwards’ shoulder.
“How long will it take to reach London?” Edwards asked.
“It is a good day’s ride to the capital. Lucky for you, most of the day still lies ahead of us.” the captain said. “You will have to excuse me sir, I have to make sure my men dock the ship properly.”
It took a while to find a spot to dock the ship, avoiding the other vessels. To Edwards it seemed as if every ship was going to collide with the boat he stood upon yet by either great skill from the helmsman or pure luck, they collided with nothing. Edwards waited whilst the gangplank was lowered into place and then he hurried from the ship. The only time he stopped was to ask for directions as to where a horse could be found.
    --
The ride had taken as long as the ship’s captain had said but eventually Edwards found himself just outside of London just as the light was fading. He gazed at the city, the capital of a mighty empire. An empire that would fall.
Edwards walked in through the busy streets leading his horse behind him in search of the nearest inn. It didn’t take long for him to find one and within another five minutes, he had a room and his horse was stabled. Edwards dumped his bag on the bed and pulled out the British naval captain’s uniform. It was fortunate the man was of similar statue to Edwards and so no alterations had had to be made to the uniform. First thing in the morning Edwards would head to the admiralty.
Morning came, Edwards forced down a bowl of porridge brought to his room as he had requested the night before and set about becoming the British officer. Edwards glanced in the mirror which hung in his room and from his perspective he very much looked like a British officer.
Edwards double checked he had locked his door before he left and went in search of the admiralty. A quick conversation confirmed at Edwards was on the right street headed in the direction of Whitehall. There it was standing proud. Two soldiers stood on guard outside, who quickly came to attention as Edwards walked past, it was feeling he had not yet got used to. It wasn’t long though before he got himself lost and he was forced to ask for directions to the Fleet Admiral’s office. A young arrogant Lieutenant gave him the directions and only because of Edwards’ senior rank.
He soon found himself waiting outside the office, heart in his throat. The door opened and out stepped a man in his mid fifties, yet looking at him he seemed at least ten years younger. “Follow me Captain.” the Fleet Admiral ordered sternly.
Edwards was on his feet as fast as possible and followed the Admiral into his spacious office. A portrait of the King hung on the wall, but apart from that the office was bare. The admiral sat and let Edwards stand to attention for a while before with a gesture saying, “At ease.”
The admiral starred at Edwards. “I would not normally be dealing with the failings of a captain, but since it was against the Americans this is a different matter entirely. Tell me exactly what happened. I tend to find reports seem lacking in real information.”
Edwards swallowed but he was a master at his craft and repeated all the information he had learnt over the past few weeks and even his own journey to England.
“You have failed the British Empire in more ways than one. Your fleet was captured yet you live, you didn’t fight on. In my day a captain went down with his ship. The only thing your report seem to lack was details on the Commodore.”
“Sir, he went down in the fighting. He was shot in the back as he tried to rally the men. I am the last surviving senior officer from the attack.” Edwards replied without a hint of emotion.
“It does not matter you are the last man standing, you failed the fleet and your country. For those actions, you will no longer be a captain. You are demoted to the rank of Commander and your days on a ship are over. You will be stationed here in the admiralty. My secretary has the details of your new role, collect them on your way out. You are dismissed.” the admiral ordered.
Throughout the whole speech, Edwards had kept a neutral face, betraying no emotion except for when he was demoted, a flicked of sadness had crossed his face, but as Edwards turned from the admiral, a small smile flickered over his face.

    Master of the Seas- pt.3
"We're going to India," Thomas told John and the second mate, Matthias Cresswell.
The two brothers were walking back from a tavern and were heading back to Dolphin and the other ships of the American navy that were moored at a port outside Williamsburg. After the battle outside Maryland, the ships needed repairing, and the crews needed replenishing, so the fleet had stayed there for quite some time. John had been anxious for another fight and had heard of an enemy fleet (the Dutch this time) that was blockading the port in Maryland again.
"What about the rest of the fleet? Are they coming with us?" asked Matthias, looking concerned.
Thomas shook his head, "No, most of the fleet is staying here. Only Valiant, Congress, and Bruizer will be sailing to Maryland. After all, there's only one ship blockading the port."
    "Why India?" asked John.
"The Cherokee have acquired land in Goa and a city there for reasons unbeknownst to me. The President wants to send a reconnaissance mission there to find out how strong their garrison is before we take the territory. That's why the admiral is sending us. We're the fastest ship in the navy and have enough guns on us to scare off pirates."
"Is the Dolphin prepared for such a voyage?" asked Matthias.
"I've replenished her stores with fresh water, salted beef, bread, and cheese. That'll be enough to get us to Lisbon, where we'll restock. Then we'll head south and stop at several ports along the way. However, I want to get there as quickly as possible, so buying a lot of supplies in Lisbon is of the utmost importance," replied Thomas.
John gave Matthias a look, then turned back to Thomas, "Then let's sail."
    ---
Five warships exited the port that dawn. The smallest of them broke off from the group to head southeast. The others headed north, to battle. Their respective crews shouted farewells and wished good luck to each other. Once the fleet was out of sight of Dolphin, John turned for'ard. India seemed so far away. Two oceans and a continent between the Dolphin and the country. They would be heading to foreign lands, risk storms and pirates, with no help from anyone else. They were truly alone.
Taking a deep breath, John said to himself, "Let's do this."

When you move into take mexico after you take Texas, you should name a unit "Los Tejanos Diablos" Or The Texas Devils. Was what US general Zachary Taylor gave the troops he had from Texas during the Mexican American War.

  • @Wolfeson28
    @Wolfeson28 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

There's probably no need to fight the battle against the Cherokee onscreen a second time.
As for the fleet, that British fleet isn't actually that much stronger than yours. Once you have the Constitution built, I think you can take the British out. Or, obviously, if the British split their fleet up, pounce on whatever fragments of it you can catch immediately. Just make sure to keep your ships together, so basically the exact opposite of what you did in the 3v1 battle in this episode. Just like your first naval battle, you left one ship to face the enemy alone while all your other ships just sailed around pointlessly out of range. Keep your ships *together* and keep your firepower massed.

The reason why USS Constitution's hull strength is so strong is because she was made out of a different type of wood from European vessels. This wood allowed her to basically tank cannonballs and in a few cases, cannonballs actually bounced off of her hull, giving her the nickname "Old Ironsides". She's actually still afloat today somewhere near Boston, I think.

A letter from Private James Rogers 4th U.S Infantry Company C to his younger brother Jack
    “Dear Jack,
We had been sieging indians. The snow has left a lot of mud. The food was not the best but we could manage. We have been doing drill and put in time at the range. We all were woken up early in the morning but our NCOs. Our regiment was ordered to hold the position left of the cannons. As we marched in to our position I looked to the right and saw two new regiments from New York. I envy how clean their new uniform were. We had a little bit of fortifications that we formed behind. As we got into position we saw the indians coming into view on the hill across from us. The cannons started to speak. The indians got close to the right flank and we could hear the fighting happening over there.
We had a unit of warriors charging towards us and we fired a volley into them but they kept coming and made contact with us and the unit next to us. The hand to hand fight was something I will never forget for the rest of my life. I engaged a indian who look to be about my age. I blocked one of his strikes and he hit me in my upper leg with his axe. I hit him on the side of the head with butt of musket and he fell to the ground. We were ordered to form up again after we had broken the indians. As I started to movers form up I saw the indian starting to move so I knocked his axe out of his hand and point my musket at him and yell for his surrender. He looked at me and raised his hands. He followed my command to stand and Lt Jones came over to me and told me to take him to the rear and told Cpl Smith to help me. We got about 60 yards away and heard a second charge from the indians and Cpl Smith left me with the indian and headed to join the fight.
I had the indian sit down by a tree. I offered him some water but he did not want it. I saw where I had hit him in the head. I watched as some of our cannons fire into our own men by accident. After the battle was over some soldiers from General Greene’s bodyguard came over and took the indian from me to be sent somewhere else. I worked my way back to my unit and we made camp not far from the battle. My wound was nothing just a scratch. We heard rumors that we are going to be marching on to the last stronghold of the indians. I ran in to John before we marches off. The 9th was pulled out line before the last engagement to heal up and rest up. The 9th would be staying back for a little and should be back with us soon.
We are now sieging Detroit in the Michigan Territory. We now are resting until we are order to attack. Thank you all for the support back home and please keep on sending the sock and gloves the guys in the company and very thankful.
    Your Brother
    James Rogers
    4th U.S Infantry Company C, General Nathanael Greene’s Army”

Agreed...He always puts a lot of infantry too close to his artillery, thus the enemy AI been drawn to them. Keep them on a hillside, protected of coarse but not near the frontline.

The letter arrived later then they had expected, then again any letter from a son away at war took longer than any family would wish to wait. It was stained from the weather and travel but to the Krimbeck’s it was a piece of gold. As were most of his letters this one was written mostly in english so though his father couldn’t understand it and had to wait for his other son to read it the first line made him cry with joy.
A letter from Corporal Jōzəf Krimbeck 3rd Regiment of Dragoons K Company to his father.
    “Mein lieber Vater
Mir geht es gut und ich hoffe, dass es auch der Hof ist. It has been an extremely long time since I last wrote, and I have been meaning to write but sadly between training, skirmishing with the natives and maneuvering I have found myself press for time. I am still perfecting my english and so part of my daily duties are a fair challenge. I am pressed with maintaining the sick call and noting down the men who are as they call it, goldbricking. Apparently it’s army slang for a man who pretends to be sick or ill in order to avoid mustering for duties or trainings. I can’t help but imagine how Großvater would have flogged such men, but I am a head smaller than him and not as brave. So I just note their names and let the officers and NCOs handle the matter.
We have been skirmishing with the indian tribes in this area for some time, but often they disengage into the woods rather then meet us in pitch battle. As I have yet to master firing my weapon on horseback I don’t mind this, besides as light Dragoons our duty is to harass the enemy, scout and repel enemy skirmishers. During one of our skirmishes with a group of Indian lancers it almost looked like the event was going to turn into a full battle but when the Spanish army moved into view the Indians retired. Some of the officers and NCOs noted my horsemanship and skill with steel, while I was flattered by these truth be told. I had already fired my weapon and either had to strike with steel or be impaled by a lance. They also discovered while only two of the spanish officers speak fair english, a fist full speak german. Thus for a short while I was a translator coordinating efforts until higher ranking officers got involved and I returned to my company.
Afterwards I fell ill to one of the many camp sicknesses that have spread through our ranks like a fire. About a week ago when I finally recovered enough to muster for duty I was given one green epaulet that I was order to stitch onto the right shoulder of my uniform. It turns out the same illness that had put me out of action had claimed the lives of half a dozen other men. Thus I was promoted to the rank of Corporal, the NCOs gave me a few different duties and here I now sit between some of them writing this mostly to record what I dreamt of last night, as odd as that sounds.
I know mother would have been angered to hear I left the sick tents before I was fully recovered, but the smell and sounds of wounded, dying and sick men cause my recovery to be even harder. So I am still battling the Headache, Nausea and mild fever that the Typhus caused me and last night I had the strangest fever dream. The dream started with us scrambling into battle lines as a much larger Indian force was assaulting us, I am still not sure how or why but a quarter into the battle the spanish army just appeared on our left flank. Both of our forces infantry were swarmed by the indian forces whom heavily outnumbered us. Yet the dragoons and other cavalry units fought on. We charged into the melee several times and pulled back after each charge to reload before storming back into the hellfire. When the battle was over our army was heavily beaten and had barely held our ground against the enemy forces.
While Großvater would say that is my fear taking flight with my rest, I do believe it is one of the better possible outcomes if we are not careful. These lands are extremely odd and confusing just yesterday I was examining a settlement only to discover it was not occupied by the Indians but by the portuguese. I wouldn’t be surprised if the reports we have received from the spanish are correct and there is another large army out there, regardless we will ride on and protect all which we hold dear by keeping the enemy clear of our lands.
Sadly I feel I won't be able to write for a little bit longer. As I hear the horn to muster, I love you all.
    Your Son

if you need to, you know you win, I think cheat for it. we've seen you can win. resoundingly even so....
I wouldn't normally say do this but it's Empire. it's a buggy mess at the best of times.

they tend to get destroyed by Russia or Ottomans quite fast usually and since trade gets better results the longer it goes on, its not a good investment. Also the trade is not very lucrative. You get most money from trading with India or some major European powers. I do trade with them eventually, if I still have some capacity after getting all the better deals.. :)

Good god that fight against the Iroquois was awful, you didn't place stakes close to your line, cannon gunners killed because you didn't protect them, the line is a mess, friendly fire on your lancers from infantry. Spread your units too thinly across the battle field, needed to focus fire on the melee natives with the cannons, didn't use your generals Body guard to help shaken infantry or counter charge the natives attacking the cannons and you don't capitalize on slaughtering a whole routing unit with your Calvary. At least you don't waste your calvary like the youtube channel The Rifleman does, I love the channel but please tell me you get better.

From what I see darthmod sucks. Constant bugs, illogical changes like having defensive earthworks when attacking and the new artwork tries to feel contemporary, but they missed it by about a century so its just annoying. No thanks, vanilla is much better.
