  • Ventrac 4500Z mowing a drainage basin with the 72" FastCut Flail Mower (MY720). In the low area the grass was around 2 feet tall and THICK. The cutting height was set and 3 1/2 inches. The flail mower is certainly a POWER HUNGRY attachment, so the mower power you have, the better!

This could make dozens of 5x5 bales and many cattle would be happier!

It appears that the cut-off grass is making a very thick mat. If you ran over a cut area several times, would it pulverize the cut-off grass and turn it to dust? Based on a one-time run over, the results are very poor (to me anyway for a $7K attachment).

I couldn't tell you, yes or no, if going over the cut material several times would turn in to "dust", because I've never tried. But, If you waited long enough for the cut material to dry, then went over it again, yea, I would say it would chop it up pretty fine, but I don't know about "dust". However, I can tell you that going over the cut material immediately, a second time, does chop it up a fair amount more. I'll put it this way, you could tell a difference, sitting in the seat. We are VERY impressed with the finish that the FastCut flail mower gives. Please check out this time stamp 8:00-8:20. I try to show just how well the material is chopped up.
I tried to answer your questions the best I could. I hope I helped.
      Thank You For Watching!

It only looks like a mat because there is so much material that is shredded and has no where to go. But it will break down faster than the tough cut material because it is finer. This is especially true on tall thick brush and dry stuff is amazing. Just ordered mine and I have four flail mowers. From Perruzo and gearmore. Once you try one on other stuff besides grass you will never co back.

I’m curious as to the speed here. It seems like you’re going really slow.
Compared to the fine cut which would leave a nicer finish I think it seems like there’s not much speed gained by the fast cut

It actually looked better before cutting.

I feel like Ventracs are a little underpowered for the 6ft attachments. In lighter material ok, but for this application, 37 hp or so would be better for applications like tbis.

The 72” RD finish mower is lighter, easier to maneuver than the fine cut flail. My 4500P really seemed like it was straining to keep rpm’s up and lifting that flail took forever.

Hopefully Ventrac will address the horsepower issue on the next model. There’s more brand options now with the hp in the upper 30’s.

I have a 72” fine cut flail and have not been impressed at all by it. It leaves long, laid over clumps everywhere.

Couldn't tell you what the slope is. Tractor doesn't have a slope meter, we just have the pucker factor. :)

This guy doesn't no bout efficiency he should not be cutting side to side she should be following the path up and down at the rate he's going he's burning more diesel than anyting the spot that he was cutting I would have cut that in for passes easily but when u own one of those u can afford the diesel
