    If you listen close, you can tell its his scream. And what does that tell you?
    That no matter when, where, or what the Winter Soldier was doing, Bucky was always there, in the background, locked away.
    Screaming.

    I don't understand how this soundtrack got negative reviews. Critics called it "themeless and has overuse of electronic sounds". I think this captures the character of The Winter Soldier PERFECTLY...

    "Fun" fact: This piece was made using his scream from when he fell of the train in the first Captain America movie stretched, pitch changed and mechanized, mixed with all sorts of sounds (what sounds like a motorcycle, metal hitting metal, ect.) to create this really chilling piece. The MCU version of a great white shark - cold, unfeeling and empty. Agreed! That made his transformation back into Bucky after the "I'm with you til the end of the line" that much more dramatic. Sebastian Stan made that scene work very effectively just by the look in his eyes as he finally really recognized Steve for who he is. Wish we could have seen more scenes like that with Bucky in Civil War and Avengers 3 and 4.

    It always baffles me when people say Bucky was the 'villain'. That implies personal motivation, choice, autonomy. Bucky Barnes has none. He's a prisoner of war, brainwashed into total obedience by HYDRA. The level of psychological and physical abuse that he goes through is absolutely heartbreaking. There are several instances in the movie were he's almost childlike, confused and vulnerable. He's a threat yes, but a villain? Hardly. HYDRA is the villain. Pierce is the villain. Bucky Barnes is a victim of torture, brainwashing, and intense abuse. He has been broken down into a tool, and is no more a villain than the guns HYDRA uses. Terms like "anti-hero" and "villain" don't fit because that implies choice. The first choice Bucky made since he fell off that train was to save Steve's life when they fell into the Potomac.
    Whenever I hear this song, it breaks my heart. People interpret the screams that continue throughout the song as the screams of the Winter Soldier's victims. Frankly, I think it's Bucky himself. The Winter Soldier is an incredibly sad, tortured character. Calling him a villain does him and Sebastian Stan a grave disservice, since it dramatically over-simplifies an incredibly complex character.

      @Nicks-Toy-Pics 10 ปีที่แล้ว +246

      @ladyofrillwater 10 ปีที่แล้ว +132

      TrollfestMaghee Early on in the song, that repetitive sound? I guess it can be interpreted in a lot of ways; some hear sirens, others hear screams. I hear a child screaming and interpret it as Bucky screaming, because Bucky's been just whittled down to this very sad, child-like state of vulnerability even while he's this terrifying threat to Steve and Nat. There are a lot of little moments in Sebastian Stan's performance that make Bucky seem childlike as the Winter Soldier, even as he was extremely deadly, and the scene with Pierce...

      @Elmo914 10 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    The Winter Soldier was so goddamn amazing. He was terrifying in his ferocity. He had no sense of self-preservation. He was like a juggernaut, a freight train--he came after you with intensity, with complete focus, with manic energy. He had no magic hammer, no flying suit, no alternate forms----he was just like, a silent menace.
    Everything about him said menace, even though he had hardly any lines.
    And yet, when he's not being directed, he was docile, childlike vulnerable. It all came down to that moment when Pierce had no fear in striking him across the face. The Winter Soldier could kill Pierce in fifteen different ways--just with his hands. But he was so broken, so controlled, so much a tool--that Pierce didn't fear him.
    That is the real tragedy of the Winter Soldier. He was no villain--he was a tool. He was broken down until hardly anything remained. Nothing mattered until given a directive. No choices. No emotions. Numb. Imagining the terrors, horrors, miseries, he must have endured at the hands of Hydra is sickening.
    Until one day, on a broken highway, a man he used to know said a name he used to be. And that name held so much meaning that it couldn't be completely wiped away but buried deep to protect it. His one last remaining lighthouse, hidden in the fog. Until his best friend managed to light the lamp. And even when they wiped him again and started over---and we see his terror of the chair but his helplessness to obey and allow them to scramble him again--all it took was that name. Uttered by that guy. And it widened the crack.
    And in the end, he may not even have understood the compulsion--but he dove after Cap into the river and pulled him out. And then, in his confusion, left him there. It's almost just as heartwrenching when he goes to the museum and reads about his own life long after it happened. Not to mention that "man on the bridge" who said the one thing that could pull him out of the Winter Soldier's shell.
    And he will eventually have to come to terms with the things he's done. Like Bruce is in constant conflict about the Hulk---Bucky will be in constant conflict about the Winter Soldier.
    How the Winter Soldier and Bucky Barnes were handled in this movie was masterful. I literally, can't wait for Cap 3. I was so hoping there would be a cameo or reference or something in Ultron--but besides the one comment Sam Wilson makes--there's nothing. Sebastian Stan showed everything and told almost nothing. He was truly amazing in this role.

    I just love that the theme sounds kinda like screams, it gives you chills down your spine when it comes on each time the Winter Soldier comes on screen, and you almost feel like he's just some kind of unstoppable mythical entity...
    Also, each time I hear it, it's like the "sreams" represented every single of the Winter Solider's victims, which comes back to Civil War's plot, in which that takes a whole other dimension.
    Man I love this movie.

      +Canadian bajur red hood was trained by batman, however most of batmans methods revolve around not killing and more on causing injury. As well Jason Todd was often described as reckless and a hothead. The winter soldier on the other hand is ruthless and unrelenting and was trained for years to be one of the worlds greatest assassins. As well he has a bionic arm which would make winning a fistfight with him difficult for a normal guy like Jason and if we're going by movie version is also a super soldier. A more even matchup might be death stroke vs winter soldier.

    This is probably one of the best character themes used in a Movie since the 90's it actually captures everything that is Bucky and The Winter Soldier. The Scrambled Memories, the Screams of the Buried Horrors trying to surface, the Soviet-like Technological theme and the longer the song goes on the Clearer the Screams become to show how the brainwashing degrades the longer he is out of cold storage.
    Perfect.

      Having real tension in a fight scene is rare anymore, but they pulled it off in cap 2. I mean they foreshadowed Bucky becoming the new Cap when Steve eventually dies by having him wield the shield during the fight on the overpass, so the fact that Steve may and likely will eventually die opened it up for a lot for a good tense action scene.

    • @Aquaphor351
      @Aquaphor351 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Derek Wilkinson THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who noticed that! I assume you're talking about the Fallen Son storyline where Steve dies, Bucky becomes the new Cap, and then Steve returns eventually. I think that Steve will die at the end of Captain America 3 (which may be titled The Fallen Son, who knows?) and Bucky will take over as Cap. The one difference is that Steve won't be returning this time, since Chris Evans has hinted that he would like to move on AND Sebastian Stan has a 9-picture deal with Marvel, meaning they have big plans for him in the future. (Plans that involve him playing Cap.) And yeah, when the Winter Soldier grabbed the shield and fought with it for a moment, I was literally yelling, "FORESHADOWING!" in my mind but to my shock, no one else even seemed to have noticed it?!

    • @soniaskyfan112
      @soniaskyfan112 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      LaBellaVita0112 Aww hell naw, have some respect for cap. If Steve's going to die, it will be in Avengers 3 against Thanos. Then Bucky can take up the mantle.

    • @Aquaphor351
      @Aquaphor351 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      soniaskyfan112 Not really. Chris Evans only had a six movie contract and he's openly stated that after finishing his contract with Marvel, he wants to take a break from acting and start some directing work. Cap 1, The Avengers, Cap 2, The Avengers 2. That's four already. Cap 3 and then The Avengers 3 and he could EASILY die in Cap 3 and then be featured in flashbacks and memories in The Avengers 3. I'm not saying that's 100% what's going to happen---obviously no one knows Marvel's plans---but it could. Especially considering Sebastian Stan has a 9 movie contract and has only done 2 movies so far so he clearly has a big role to play in the future.

    • @soniaskyfan112
      @soniaskyfan112 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This truly captures the essence of the Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier is an infamous legend. A myth. A ghost.
    The Winter Soldier is part machine, part supernatural beast. He's a monster appearing from the smoke, with no remorse or mercy, only an objective.
    And this perfectly captures his character. The first part is an eerie symphony, representing the ghost, the supernatural myth of The Winter Soldier. The beast appearing in the fog. A thing that is only spoken of in whispers.
    The halfway point represents the machine. The cold, mechanical, efficient killer. The part that approaches a target, unfeeling and focused on nothing but assassination.
    Henry Jackman did this film justice with the soundtrack.

    The winter soldier is by far one of the best characters in the marvel universe: a horrifying, deadly threat looming over our heroes throughout the entire movie. He seems like nothing more than a monster, but then you discover that he is actually bucky, after DECADES of brainwashing and torture and abuse have worn him down. He is a tragic, extremely misunderstood character, and one of the best. I can't wait to see more of him in civil war. Now, gotta go listen to this track again (it's CHILLING. @god, give the composer ALL THE AWARDS for coming up with a track equal parts terrifying and heartbreaking.)

    • @jaydenjezowski4339
      @jaydenjezowski4339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope. Jason Todd appears as the red hood (February 2005) one month after bucky appears as the winter soldier (January 2005).
      Bucky Barnes' first overall appearance is in 1941. Jason Todd's is 1983. Does not precede Bucky in any fashion.

      He said in an interview that shooting scenes in that mask is very hard because it makes it a challenge to breathe through it, so we'll probably never see the mask again now that his identity is revealed.

    Winter soldier is probably the best character in the movie. Bucky is literally a killing machine. You can feel the intensity of his manic energy pulsating with every step he makes to attack. He doesn't wound to kill, he simply kills period. This guy invented the kill shot 😂

    HOLY SHIT if you mash this song and Cap's songs together it almost tells the story of the movie HOLY
    They both crescendo slowly, until TWS's theme over powers Steve's, and Steve's song almost becomes chase music that's playing faintly in the background. Then, the two songs eventually blast as one another loudly as they clash, but Steve's dies down again as TWS's continues to blast, before cutting off abruptly. Then, as Steve's song continues you can hear echos of TWS's theme echoing faintly in the background of Steve's.
    HOW COOL IS THAT.

    *SPOILERS for CA: TWS.*
    What I loved about the Winter Soldier was how terrifying and badass and intimidating he was, but how he also had those vulnerable moments where you couldn't help but feel SO bad for the poor guy who pretty much had his memories, personality, and whole life ripped and erased away. He was tough but he was also mind-controlled, so psychologically, it was a very dark and twisted thing to comprehend. He's scary as hell but his story is also sad as hell. Sebastian Stan did amazingly in the role and I can't wait to see where the Winter Soldier/Bucky go from here. Also, this song is just sick. It pretty much portrays the fear his victims would feel when he just shows up out of nowhere. It also might represent how mechanical and empty he is inside his own head (for the moment, anyway, until he regains his memories).

    • @RyoHayasa

      Yeah. he may not be as "powerful" as Loki, or Red skull or whoever, but Winter Solider definitely is intimidating if nothing else. I loved how they showed him as being SO relentless. Throw everything at him, and it barely slows him down. Was Taskmaster in the movie? I might've missed it. I know we got Cross bones and Batroc (the Leaper) who else was there?

    • @Aquaphor351
      @Aquaphor351 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      RyoHayasa I didn't catch Taskmaster. But they DID mention Stephen Strange! Did you catch that? When Steve and Natasha were interrogating Jasper Sitwell on the roof and he was babbling on and on about who might be the victims of Zola's algorithm, he mentioned Stephen Strange. So Doctor Strange definitely exists in the MCU now...meaning we may possibly have a Doctor Strange movie on the way!
