  • Kia Ora folks.
I'm back at it again with another installment of "What People think about America". This time, I'm in Wellington, New Zealand and I wanted to grab some of their thoughts on America and its people. Now this isn't an in depth interview so don't take it that serious, it's just street interviews. Sorry about the wind at certain points in the audio, I'll do better next time.
If you want to skip around the video, here are some time stamps:
    0:00 intro
0:52 "Have you ever been to America?"
1:23 " What are your general thoughts on America?"
3:45 " What are your general thoughts on AMERICANS?"
6:38 " What is something you like about America?"
9:11 " What is something you DO NOT like about America?"
11:42 " Can you give us your best American accent?"
    12:30 "Outro"
So there it is! Thanks again to everyone who participated in the video!

For example the preamble of the constitution is only 52 words long and states the goals of the document unlike the EU's constitution which is 293 words long and outlines rights given by government to the people, unlike the US Constitution which has individual rights against the state. I wish Americans were more relaxed, open, and kind-hearted about their views. As an American who has been to and researched other countries heavily, I do think we are more intense and thus less understanding of the inherent good of people when we get our “big egos” up about our political views. Obviously there is a ton of diversity here and not everyone is like that but the media does a good job of fostering division amongst the people. For example, I think it’s quite normal here to judge someone based on their party affiliation which is absurd. What a great way to keep people from unifying by labeling them and encouraging them to judge others based on political party. I love all different types of people and respect the variety of motives behind various perspectives.

One fella had it right -- polarized, different from state to state, so vast. Yep, we are a large country with a lot of factions and regions.

I agree. Every time I leave the US and come back, I get a new perspective at how big and different the US is.

What surprised me the most is how well they know how we are. The New Zealanders or Kiwis, were pretty much spot on. I like the old guy with the beard especially, because he knows our American history.

It feels good to hear the good things they’ve said about us Americans. So many places think American people are cruel & terrible people. I think what a lot of people don’t realize is each state is almost like a country.

I just have to say that the two biggest reasons we haven't switched fully over to the metric system are:
1 - There just isn't a need domestically. We use it where needed, but for the most part, the Imperial system just works as is for us.
2 - Changing all the signage across the country (remember, the U.S. is huge both latitudinally and longitudinally). We just have more important things to sink that money into.
