The American flag is more about celebrating our freedoms that no other country has. The flag also reminds us of the sacrifices our forefathers and foremothers went through to preserve our freedoms. We went through being ruled by kings with no representation but taxed heavily. If we did not join the fight in WW2 we all be speaking German under the NAZI party.
Our gun culture is for hunting, protecting our family, and to protect our country from invaders. There was documentary about WW2 Japan was afraid to attack the US mainland because of how many citizens were armed.
Also, Americans being selfish is very untrue especially in the South and midwest regions. We donate to organizations like St Judes Childrens hospital. We donate to churches that help feed and cloth the hungry.
Conservative America is just tired of having to contribute so much money to outside of the US because we need to fix our bigger problems first before we can help other countries. It is hypocritical.
I disagree about Biden being best president. He is intentionally letting in Illegal immigrants and some are violent criminals into our country and citizens like Laken Riley killed by a Venezuelan. Brazilian gangs stealing from our stores. A 12 yo and 14 yo both were raped by illegals from Honduras. New York police department was beat up by a Venezuelan gang. A Chinese illegal was caught walking on a California military base

But for far too long America has rested on laurels of many natural advantages it has, and in many ways, many other nations have surpassed it. These days too the politics are total sh*t INSANITY and in so many ways just evil. That Trump is leader of white supremacist movement yet every day proves just how much his DNA is so busted up and broken it has cried itself to sleep every night of his disgusting life. Message to the world looking on in horror: remember that America does go super silly every now and then. A century ago we banned alcohol nationwide. But a bit more than a decade later, we kicked Prohibition to the curb. I don't think the Swedes understand how big our country is and that gun violence is really only in the large, urban cities (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, etc) and primarily between gangs/criminals. If you are not looking for trouble, 99.9 percent of the time it will not find you. Most of America is small towns that have non existent gun violence. Though most people will own a gun, it is strictly for hunting/defense purposes only. Most of us live out in the country with lots of game and predators, such as mountain lions, grizz, black bear, etc. You need a gun, especially out west. Did you know only 20 percent of Americas population live west of the mississippi, the other 80 percent live east of it. America is rural! Come visit, it is SAFE.

    • @teds9896
      @teds9896 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I have to say I disagree. For one thing, if White America was a country, we'd be one of the most suicidal nations worldwide. Last time I checked, Swedes are white, and white men in America are 70% of the nation's suicides which are roughly 2.5 times the homicides in the country, i.e. the most common gun victim in America is a rural white man with what's left of his skull and brains splattered out on the walls and ceiling behind him.
I don't entirely disagree with you about gangs and certain areas of cities have more gun violence, but drugs are a huge problem in Rural America and guns are too. Because here's another problem: suicide cases often enough murder a few people right before killing themselves. America has a lot that is good, but it's also a barbarian nation in many ways where people are ultra-individualistic and self-centric, and hate most everyone else that isn't themselves. "Beggar thy neighbor" culture it's only a small step to "murder thy neighbor," for which the factional hate is extremely high in the USA. It's part of the reason for the gun nuttery too; "self defense" mindset is rampant when a nation is "dog eat dog" and "every man for himself!" Wild Wild West!
One could point to certain urban areas in the USA as having the homicide problem, but then the homicide rate of the states Trump won was 43% higher than the states Biden won. It's not unlike how some say the death penalty is a deterrent, yet the homicide rate of death penalty states has consistently ranked higher than those states who don't have it.

Thank you for saying this. I’m an American living in Sweden and I’m constantly trying to emphasize that the USA is basically the equivalent in size, population, and diversity as the EU. So, saying anything about all Americans is like commenting about Europeans. For a county with only 10 million people (about the size of NYC!), the scale of the United States is really hard to fathom.
Just one example: When people think about “American food,” they tend to think about a handful of fast-food items popular worldwide. Which makes sense for a Swede, since you can describe Swedish cuisine as a small basket of favorites. But American food is a whole universe of tastes, regional variations, and immigrant hybrid cuisines!
Another example: Swedes commonly visit NYC, LA, or Miami. Places where you can get direct flights on SAS! This is “America” in their direct experience. But those cities are as “exotic” to most Americans as they are to Swedes! And they have really different lifestyles from the way the median, suburban American lives. Miami, especially, is really unique, since it’s kind of more “the capital of Latin America” than a typically American city.

Urban vs. Rural for example. Urban America is over 80% of the population of this country, while Rural America is less than 20%. BUT that is very much the opposite of 250 years ago that America was set up to favor Agrarian society and Rural people. Our system is also highly resistant to change so much how the politics of a century ago was 19th century Americans vs. 20th century ones(Prohibition in the 18th Amendment and then its repeal hardly more than a dozen years later with the 21st Amendment a fantastic example of this), today we have much the same problem of 20th century Americans vs. 21st century ones. What you say is true. But there's a deeper truth: so much of the 0.001% or oligarchy or Establishment is sh*t scared and hasn't got a blasted clue what to do. They know that ultimately they're NOT in control of this country. After all, look at the American Revolution, the Civil War, the Great Depression, etc.

It always amazes me when they say they know more about America then Americas do about other countries. America is huge and by and large we take vacation within the country. Many other countries are smaller such as in Europe and it’s easy to transverse the continent visiting other places. And this isn’t meant to be bragging in any way but America is the flashing neon sign to the rest of the world. By that I mean we export movies, music and pop culture around the world. Some of it such as movies create stereotypes which you see reflected in the comments of these videos. It becomes a mindset where many THINK they know a lot about America but really don’t. And many just repeat what others have told them which is common everywhere. But no doubt because of what I said above people in general would tend to know more about America ( right or wrong ) then the other way around. That’s just reality.

It's never the other way around. Majority of the people in the world are chickens. Trust me. All anyone can do is base opinions on their sources. In these cases it’s probably just movies and TV. The reality of America is not too different than any other western nation. What you don’t see and hear about is the every day normalcy that is prevalent. Families live a normal life, work balanced with home life. If we look at the news we are a dysfunctional people, that shoots itself to bits weekly. While bad things happen, it’s not normal or a daily truth. America is made of many type of people, it’s large and complex. City life is different to a rural experience. As for our schools, I think it’s ironic that the US has excellent technology development, and our science contributions are notable. From computers, to astronomy and medicine. Our military has incredible power and influence. None of these things happen if a people is stupid as some believe. In fact many very smart scientist are American. The US has influenced so many nations. It’s positive and optimistic in nature. But we are also conflicted, of two minds sets. There is no doubt an internal fight of old vs new ideology.

We do have a lot of problems in the US. It's sad that the bad stuff hits the news, and not the good stuff. This is a huge country, and there is a lot of diversity. Sadly, there is too much division. The colleges are good, but very expensive. Not all of us are snobs, not all of us put the flag out. Drugs are a problem, and while marijuana is legal in small amounts. We had world history when I was in school, but I was also interested in academics. Our healthcare system is very expensive. Many of us struggle to buy groceries and get basic needs met (I'm on disability- was a nurse for 35 yrs; worked for 20). My grandparents were from Ôland and Nordmaling, and I love my Swedish heritage. Every Christmas Eve was incredibly fun with all of my farmor's sisters and brothers with tier families. Many of us respect European countries very much. I wish people here would understand that democratic socialism would benefit everyone... but too many in Congress want to make money. Trump was/is a disaster. More people voted for Clinton but the Electoral College (very outdated system) gave the election to tRump. Education is a problem. Too many don't value it, and think it's something that is boring, and not an opportunity. There is also not much done to make sure students actually learn something before going to the next grade. We do have a lot of issues- but it's also beautiful in so many places. When I grew up here, it was nice, but that was a LONG time ago. My parents valued education, so going to college was expected, and I loved nursing.

Well this video taught me that as a result of my nationality I am dumb. Then again, since I’m inherently dumb, maybe agreeing that I’m dumb, is actually really smart. Then again if I start thinking I’m smart and that I know things I couldn’t know because I’m dumb, what would that mean? Hold on …
    3.14 + x - 1/3 + stupidity, carry the 1, add a rhombus, subtract a trapezoid, multiply by dumb + chaos math = alright, turns out I am dumb.
This was all very educational. Thank you Sweden.

Ive watched about 100 of these vids about how people in Europe and even Americans who move to Europe dont like the US. Often comments about how life is 'Better' in Europe compared to US accompany these vids. So Ive always marveled at how so many people who say US are 'self centered' or even 'stupid or dumb' NEVER acknowledge the fact that Europe has had about the longest historical stretch of peace in the last 500 years because of US security guarantees and US tech and US sending money to help rebuild after WWII.
Losts of criticism of Trump. But at current time he has been correct about Europe's energy dependence on Russia and was laughed at in Europe.
It paradoxically shows that these people are the ones who are in fact 'Ignorant' and in a very serious way.
Thank you for your highly sane and enlightened reminder to the European continent about what US actually has contributed to generations of Europeans.

@@logician3641 I don't consider myself blindly patriotic, and definitely have some very serious criticisms for my country, the US. But thank you for this comment. How ignorant do people have to be to fail to acknowledge that, coming out of WW2, the western world was going to go one way or the other, and thank the fucking heavens it went the way it did. And that happened 100% because of the US and its power and status.
Want to know what the alternative would have been? Just compare East vs West Berlin. North vs South Korea.
Europe is the cultural gem of civilization in historical terms. And its treasures (both physical and philosphical) have been inherited in practice and upheld by the US. By no means do I think the US is beyond criticism or shouldn't be called out when it deserves it, but the fact remains, sorry, the entire western world and its precepts, which IMO are absolutely better than any other culture or civilization has yet to come across, are held in place on the back of America.

As an American who has been all over Europe, it's always interesting to hear Europeans talk about the US. Most Europeans really have no idea how BIG the US is compared to most of the European nations. ALL European cultures are represented in the US and i think a LOT of Europeans forget that. One thing i would say as an American is there is something for EVERYONE here but that's not always true within Europe in general as it's very fragmented. Another thing Europeans don't really get is that in America the cream rises to the top so the education system gets better as you go higher and those that want to be clowns and stay uneducated and be consumers...they get to do that and live in bliss as relatively uneducated and unintelligent consumers but those that want to excel can do so easily, it's a very libertarian system. Yes, there are a LOT of people that make bad decisions but there are plenty that make good decisions and do well as each does for themselves. The opportunities in the US are VASTLY SUPERIOR to those opportunities in Europe for EVERYONE. There is a reason that the US is known as the land of opportunity and Europe is not. Hard working motivated individuals are only limited by their own drive in how successful they can be in America, not so much in Europe. Europe has a totally different approach, yes they are all capitalist nations but they also all have HUGE social welfare programs and lots and LOTS of regulations and red tape that leaves their ability to create new businesses very limited.

    1. They never locked down for COVID.
    2. You don't need air conditioning there.
People of Scandinavian descent built much of the American Midwest, and Scandinavian-Americans are mostly peaceful and hard working people. Not many of them are involved in gangs or drugs.
I'll try to address some of the points made. We do, in fact, have locally owned restaurants. Here in Phoenix we have a fast food chain called Pete's Fish and Chips that is only in the local area. Voting for Trump was a matter of national survival. He paused the invasion from the south and plans to do so again. I know Swedes understand this issue, because they are turning into Syria-North. When Trump was in office gasoline was cheap, other prices were low, and jobs were plentiful.

He was just saying the culture is so widespread that in NL you cannot even find local cuisine anymore - it’s all just American. I think that was more a criticism of his country than the US per se.

What an American thinks of Sweden? Wonderful scenery, polite people. Everyone wears beige. If you wear any color, even muted pastels, you are stared at.

Older American here. Most of the people you interviewed come across, at least to be, as ignorant & arrogant euro-snobs. They come from countries smaller than the majority of most of our individual states. I consider Europe to be almost tribal.
Amazing how they can have such strong opinions about a country they probably never visited & a culture they have never experienced. If they want to talk about political systems, just look at how historically difunctional many of their political systems tend to be. Countries in Europe are much older than the United States of America, yet how many wars have they had because they can't get along with each other? How do they explain how a country & people that is less than 250 years old has managed to become significantly more successful, creative & productive than any country in the world?

They are part of the NATO. That’s why we would all support them.

I have traveled extensively abroad ..I don’t anymore.. the diversity of our own country is amazing. Why leave and visit these countries? They are clowns.

Generalizations made about any country, especially one that's the third largest in the world (both physically and by population) is rather stupid. There is no group-think among 330+ million people of every race and ethnicity (including 3.4 million Swedish-Americans) in states as varied as California, Texas, Florida, New York, etc... plus urban and rural.

    Amish
    Creoles
    Cajuns
    European Americans
    Mexican American
Mennonites - list goes on …
We have so many people and different cultures, I can’t keep up. Which Americans are they talking about? The ones that left Sweden?
