FOGO Premium Oak Hardwood Lump Charcoal

  • This is a video of FOGO Premium Hardwood Lump Charcoal. This bad was given to me to test by Joey Machado of FOGO Charcoal.
I really liked this charcoal. It is VERY clean burning, and as you can see at the end of the video it burned down to nothing. To me, that says that this is very well prepared charcoal.
The website even states that this charcoal is hand sorted to ensure the pieces are of similar size. That is crucial for even burns. If you have small pieces mixed with very large pieces you get a burn that is uneven. That didn't happen here.
Go out and pick yourself up a bag and try it. And tell me what you think.

Glad for another video. I am a FOGO guy. I use Super Premium and I notice it does not pop like this did.
Big chunks make for longer burn time. I can pull a solid 13 hour cook in my Big Joe III and never add any more lump to the burn using either Kamado Joe Big Lump or FOGO Super Premium. For shorter cooks the smaller stuff is fine, but when doing briskit or a butt you need a good long burn, and that's the benefits of large lump. FOGO is good lump. I really like it.

Nice video, one good thing about FOGO is that its a mild smoke that doesn't over power your meat when you cook with it.

You asked in this video why you would want larger chunks of lump charcoal. From a consumer perspective, I would say because once pieces get too small they are harder to use (will fall through grates, the chimney, etc) and you can always break a bigger piece down but not the other way. like you said the bigger pieces allow better air flow, and with kamado type grill, you dont have to worry about hot spots, and if you have good airflow, you can control temps better. I cant say for sure this is correct, but I believe that if you take a large piece of charcoal, and compare it to two smaller pieces that add up to the same weight as the larger, the larger piece should burn longer with less heat than the two smaller. So for a longer cook you would want bigger pieces, and for a hotter cook you want smaller pieces.

I see your point. Again I’m looking at the perspective of cooking at SCA events.
But for a long cook, yep they would work thanks for your comments!

Hi there. I really like your comparison videos on the various briquetes and lump brands. I've been trying to get my hands on B&B briquettes to try out but no luck, every place I try are out. I just bought a new PK360 and grill grates. Can't wait to fire it up. I'm a subscriber to your channel and appreciate all the time and effort you put in to making the videos. Thanks.

Great video! Would love to see a review of the Prime 6 charcoal. I’ve heard it can be reused up to six times and produces minimal ash. However, I’ve also heard some concerns that it may be difficult to keep it lit and it may not burn as hot as say B&B briquettes. Thanks!

@@FLYINGSMOKE Yessir! I’ve only seen a few short videos on TH-cam showing Prime 6 in action, but most have been quite underwhelming. Would be cool to see a thorough longevity test to see if they remain lit and how long they’ll burn for a cook. Also, a high heat test to see if they’ll get as hot or hotter than say B&B briquettes.
