    You have to center the gear box 1st or you ll end up with a steering wheel that wont be centered! I just did the exact same box on my camaro & had to go back and do it all over again, Nit only that but i had to readjust both side tierods. It was a learningbexperience & a pain in the ass. So good luck to you. Patience & lots of beers will resolve any issues you ll encounter.

      hopefully its close because the steering wheel is center right now but the rest of the suspension is not on yet so I can't say for sure.

      Did you have any “clunk” sounds when breaking after doing this? I feel like my tie rod is having issues

    Pickup the 2.5 Liter Ultrasonic Cleaner from harbor freight and a gallon of simple green. Cleans parts to brand new in under 10 minutes. I use it for all the little bits that are gross. Others I use a large plastic tub filled with simple green and let parts just soak.

      thanks for the advise ill have to go grab some. brake clean is getting expensive and gasoline is too expensive now lol

      @@gsfootage5959 true. Also brake clean removes paint and breaks down rubber bits, degreaser doesn’t. Don’t ask how I know. Enjoying the build. I’m right behind you in EFI install and the CPP box

    Note nut torque for pitman arm is 120 to 160 ft. lbs and gear box mounting bolts are 60 to 80 ft. lbs according to the 1970 chevelle assembly manual. Rag joint nuts at 15 to 25 ft. lbs.

    Will these part numbers essentially fit the 71 Chevelle?

    What power steering hoses are you using? I’m running the same gearbox in my El Camino but can’t seem to find anything that fits right. Do you have a part number? Thanks for the videos man, they’ve saved my bacon!

      I got the hoses for the car from opgi. I don't remember the part numbers. but I do know I ordered the factory replacements for the big block from opgi. hope that helps

    Is the Rag joint and pitman from Cpp?

  • @ajrichards5121
    @ajrichards5121 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does your steering wheel have play in it, I have a cpp box still have play In steering wheel

    • @gsfootage5959
      @gsfootage5959  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you can adjust that with the screws on the box. maybe reach out to cpp and they can provide more insight on how to do it. mine doesnt have too much

    I stopped watching when you pulled out the BFH to install the rag joint on the steering box. If you had removed the bolt, it would have slipped right on.

    I just put this same gearbox on my 70 chevelle, I’m curious if your steering is now much harder to turn like mine is and how you adjust for that.

    • @gsfootage5959
      @gsfootage5959  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah mine got little tighter but not much harder to turn. I wonder if the bolt on top of the gear box is the adjustment for that

    • @ls87gbody
      @ls87gbody 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The gear box is made with a different valving for increased steering feedback. A Cadillac you could drive with one finger, really easy to steer. Not so good for performance applications. You want some resistance in the steering wheel for a sense of feedback. More controllable .

      @ls87gbody 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gsfootage5959the bolt on top is to take any "slack" out of the left to right steering. Not necessary to adjust on a new unit.
