Hey guys I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but your camera work, dialog, and lighting is top notch. On par with a lot of the huge channels out there.
I'm saving up for 1950 Mercury Chassis with airbags. Until then I gotta rock the original scary frame. Smoothed my firewall just like this, though. 1 step at a time. love the content.
New subscriber here, the Chevelle drew me in. I gotta say, you guys got a nice cherry body to work with, no rust or whiskey dents. I'm not a purist, I'm thinking, this is how the ride should look, can't wait for the next installment. Great camera work and content.
Nice progress on the build. I thought you guys were going to stiffen the firewall with a bead roller, but I guess one learns something new everyday. Looking forward to future episodes.
That was the plan, but we like the look of the flat wall, and the material we used was structurally sound enough. Thanks so much for watching, we really appreciate the support!
Idk how I missed the notification for thus but glad I checked. Gotta get my weekly shot of salvage to Savage. I'd watch if yall did once a day or once a month. Always great content and nice that u guys try to reply as much as yall can.
WOW Mike I just looked and you guys have 150k in subscribers now that must be becuase of my big mouth telling my friends about your shop etc...LOL just kidding I think when I met you your channe was like 20 k or so. keep up the great work men. your friend Bill R.
Thank you so much for all the support! We really hope you're liking the builds and able to sit around with your friends enjoying the videos with a few beers!
Another very cool project. I'm curious: when you quote a project like this, do you just say "time and materials for as long as it it takes," or a set price, or combination?
It really depends on the project and the customer. Sometimes it's "I want this done a specific way" and it's billed out by the time it takes to get that project done, other times it's "I have this budget, do what you can to make the car as cool/fast as possible!"
If the 6L90 turns out to be too deep with the RS spec frame, I have a billet shallow pan that I designed for my 6L90 in my modified 69 GTO frame. I have some time on the machining center, I may be able to cut one from a big block of Al.
I would really like to get one of those chassis for my 74 nova, but my pockets ain't that deep. Going to have to go the subframe, subframe connectors route. That is going to be one awesome ride when it's done.
They're nice chassis, but we got one because we wanted to put 1000+ horsepower to the wheels. Whatever gets your car back on the road is cool with us! Hope the project is going well
@@SalvagetoSavage Project is stalled, due to lack of motivation, and cold weather. Hoping to get the body chemically dipped this spring and over to someone to do the metal work I am completely not even close to capable of doing.
No metal prep on the now grinded/bare metal original firewall and on the steel sheet with the scale still on and now it’s all welded sandwiched together!? That’s is not gonna do good!
I always cringe when I see holes drilled into frames and bolts are shoved into them before any bare surface is treated. I know this wasn't the case here exactly, but just reminded me of it.
Beautiful chassis and awesome work thus far! With bare metal behind the smooth firewall plate, aren't you worried about future rust between the two sheets of metal? I would think some kind of a weld-through primer would help with that.
Weld through primer is not too fun to work with and leads to less than ideal welds. The two firewalls will be sealed up before it goes to paint and there won't really be a chance of moisture getting in there when it's all finalized
Awesome work as always, quality episode 🔥. Would love to be an apprentice in your shop! Curious, did you guys do something off camera to prevent rust/corrosion between the two firewalls?
No, but before paint, we'll be sealing up the panels, so there is no real chance of corrosion between the two panels when it's all said and done. Factory panels are normally metal on metal similar to what we're doing
Our channel with the current content is still under a year old. Hopefully we'll get there. We're just trying to give you guys some cool builds and cool content! Thanks for all the support!
There are pinch seam adapters that will fit into the lift holes where the pads go you guys look like youll be doing this a lot maybe you should get some
Is that engine direct inject? If so will you run secondary injectors into the manifold? Just wondering how it might affect hp and trq numbers, and the linear quality (or lack there) of the acceleration.
I am considering the same roadster chassis for my cutlass. Was there anyway to have made this work without having to do the entire tunnel? I knew I would have cut the trans tunnel for the 6l80 but didn’t anticipate having to do the entire tunnel all the way back..
It really just depends on the engine/transmission set up you're using. We had to cut ours because the LSX set up sits differently than the stock big block that was in the Chevelle. If we were using the stock block, the transmission would have sat in a way where we wouldn't have had to chop as much if any of the floor out. I'm sure the guys over at Roadstershop would be able to answer all those questions if you're really concerned about it. They're awesome about making sure you get what you need!
Just had a thought: why aren't engine and trans models a thing? You know, 1:1 model with the dimensions, but made from plastics or thin alu sheets. I mean you have to do a lot of fitting and mockups with the drivetrain and engines etc are heavy... I think you get where I'm going with this. ;)
It works as a filler that we can lay down without adding to much heat to the metal and previous welds. If you're looking for an in depth explanation, give Tim a shout on IG and he can run down the pros and cons for you!
Weld through primer can lead to some unpleasant welds. The firewall will be sealed in before paint so no moisture will get in between/no rust will form.
It's a Rick's Tanks Stainless cell! We used a similar one for our 72 Chevelle LS3 swap we have on the channel. There's a little more in depth explanation on the tank there.
Love the Roadster Shop stuff, but there's no way that carving out those huge logo letters in the chassis didn't weaken it in that area... Bad idea (@1:04).
The IRS option was an extra $10k for the next step up in their chassis line I think. But we have some transmission updates coming up. He changed his mind yet again!
Too much destruction of the original everything. The body sits too low on that chassis. The solution isn’t chopping the **** out of the body to make it fit. A 70 Chevelle is as iconic as a 57 Chevy. Too much!
