- I swear, platformers are Dave's kryptonite. While this one wasn't as disastrous as his Mario Sunshine, Galaxy, or Odyssey playthroughs, it was still pretty bad.

This is iconic. At no point in this playthrough does Phil acquire ANY skills whatsoever.
He has been playing games for 11 years and hasn't gotten better at all. I got good at counter strike after 1 week lmfao.
His GTA playthroughs highlight this perfectly. He’s played through them all yet makes exactly the same mistakes in all of them. Shockingly inept.
Why should he improve? It's never his fault when he fails.

Talks about overreactions, delightfully edited so that both before and after he overreacts to something, as well as talking about not understanding moderation, whereas any time someone shits on him, he immediately goes full explanation mode, no moderation to it. The controls have their issues.
Long jumping and overall responsiveness are not one of them. It is really easy to keep long jumping. One of the first major speed running glitches was repeatedly long jumping backwards.
Also he died in the basement. Amazing

You see guys? Mario is a old game because it has momentum in it's movement or something. New(good) games defenitely doesn't have that and allows you to turn on a dime. King of retro by the way.
He just doesn't get how basic physics work. See: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, wherein he reacted to the existence of inertia in *those* games with "On what planet does this happen, where you keep moving like this even after you stop?!" (don't remember exactly what he said, but he definitely implied the devs don't know how things work on Earth when the people who had the job of making the physics engine almost certainly had to have taken graduate-level physics courses to qualify for what the job needed in the first place)

That was quick. Phil just finished playing this yesterday.
It actually didn't take me anywhere near as long as I thought, which I'm kinda thankful for! There was a whole lot of boring stuff that I just skipped through, and that helped a bit. In comparison, TIHYDP New Super Mario Bros. U took about 1 month or so of on and off editing.

The DS Version on 3DS and Wii U VC feels comfier to control imo than the original, but most of that is due to regular controllers poorly emulating the N64 controller

I would not put that past him. He has shown himself to not understand the most basic fundamentals of physics, things that Aristotle was able to notice (even with his very, very wrong approach) because of everyday experience. I mean, how often has he complained about momentum...basically *existing* in this game?
So, yes, he would totally be driving on an icy road at 10 above the posted speed limit (which is only fine in optimal conditions and when everyone else is doing it), then complain that he clearly hit the brakes on time when he inevitably crashes.
Every minute of this was painful how is he this bad?
His Cat is likely going to be neglected or its litterbox will not be cleaned. Also the kitten shown on stream will face the same problems.

Eh there's really nothing to ruin. The game was great for it's time but now it's just a mess. It's aged like mayonnaise left out in the sun. There's a reason all the speedruns are just abusing glitches and exploits in how it's built lol.
To each their opinion i guess. Even tho i know this game inside out i can still pop it in my og n64 at any time and get more enjoyment than most other mario games. Tho i can agree that it's aging definitely doesn't help it's case.

Maybe that's why he was as lenient as he was. I would've ended up at a final score 3 or 4 times higher, probably :/. But that may indeed get out of hand.

It's like he wants to have a 3D platformer game with a freely controlled camera with no restrictions. If any game like this has a camera with tight restrictions like Hazy Maze Cave, he'll just say the game is terrible.

After watching this I have come to the conclusion that DSP literally has zero depth perception and 90% of his mistakes would be fixed if he had it. Well, I say 90% but that doesn't take into account his lack of reaction time. Assuming he does even ever hit the button after failing timing
