      If you’ve ever added PH down to your nutrient reservoir and seen it go cloudy as the PH down mixes into it, that’s actually nutrients precipitating out of the solution, in other words, bad.

    Hi Mentuhotep Ra. I changed the res every 14-21 days when the plants were small, topping up with half strength nutrient solution and adjusting pH in between changes. I also rinsed off the hydrocorn growing medium each time I changed the res to minimize the accumulation of plant waste products in the growing medium. As the plants grew bigger I upped the frequency of the reservoir changes to every 7 - 10 days.

    Hi Everest! I am a big fan of the channel. I had a quick question for you about something I could have sworn you covered in a video I'd seen a while back. I couldn't find the video online so figured I'd ask you directly since you'd likely know the fix!
    We are running into issues with our nutrient solution. We mix solid masterblend fertilizer, calcium nitrate, and epsom salts in tap water to make a 10-10-6 solution. We have it pH adjusted with a Bluelab system (which I saw according to a video of yours might drop the pH too quickly and be a source of the problems). After a day or two, we get a dark precipitate from the solution that falls out, is in particulate throughout, and chunks on the surface. The nutrients are all dissolved separately in warm water first when mixed, the solution seems fully dissolved for hours. After a day or two, the fallout happens. Any idea what is going on or what could help? FYI our water is on the hard side.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Sperber Hi David, you should invest in a reverse osmosis water filter (and possibly a water softener / ion exchanger too) - both very easy to plumb in. With significant amounts of calcium (and possibly magnesium) already present in your water there will be more chance of precipitation.

    I use 2 part H&G because it does everything 3 part does but the bigger better companies like H&G spent alot of money and scientific research into working out the 2 part is the better option this is why the best have left the 3 part behind. It's old technology. With PH testing you can give your plants anything you want but at the correct PH range for each phase of your plants life you can control which nutrients your plants will uptake.. sorted.

    Hola Everest! I just enjoy a lot watching your videos over and over again... Thank you for this great info! So, going back to growing, basically we adjust first the nutrient solution based on EC and then after PH, right? I have this problem that after getting down my PH with phosphoric acid, EC goes up more than needed. What should I do or check? Also I have noticed that the roots of my lettuce became like brown color :( does this has to do with high EC levels?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +José Salvador Vargas Martínez Hola José, thanks for your feedback. What EC and pH are you running for your lettuce? What is the EC and pH of your source water (before adding any nutrients or anything else.) Also, what is your daytime / nighttime air temperature and relative humidity? Finally-your brown roots make me think low levels of dissolved oxygen in your nutrient solution? Are you growing your lettuce directly in the nutrient solution or are you using some kind of substrate? The low dissolved oxygen levels are likely caused by nutrient solution temperatures being too high-aim for around 19C and always use an air pump and air stone.

    • @pepechechar
      @pepechechar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Everest Fernandez (Just4Growers) EC1= 0.36, PH=8.5; EC2=1.7 PH2=7... Then I added more acid to get lower PH. PH3=6 but EC2 becomes EC3=2.4... As for Tmax=29C and Tmin=14C. Hmax=90% and Hmin 28% (kind of semi-desertic climate behavior). I am using NFT system with oasis cubes and I do not have an air pump nor and air stone yet.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +José Salvador Vargas Martínez Hola José. Okay-some very interesting stats. Thanks for posting them. So your source water is 0.36 and the pH starts off quite high at 8.5. I imagine that's due to a large amount of carbonates and bicarbonates already present in your source water. As such, it's taking an awful lot of acid to bring your pH back down to 6. Do check out my article on lettuce here: goo.gl/DmN8M5 EC has to be adjusted for light levels, temperature and humidity. High light levels and temperatures with low humidity draws a lot of water up through your plants-and you need to lower EC to reflect that. Conversely, low light levels and temperatures with high humidity needs to be countered with higher EC. Given your low humidity and high temperatures, I would suggest a lower strength nutrient solution-somewhere at 1.2 - 1.4 mS. I would also look for a purer / soften water source so you don't have to use so much acid to pH adjust.

    Wont adding a diluted solution of PH down end up decreasing your ppm> You are adding plain water to your nutrient solution. Or is that ammount of PH down diluted water added to the nutrient solution so small that it doesnt affect the PPM much? I've been adding straight PH down to my nutrient solution, but I think you know a lot more about this stuff than I do.
    Im very much a newbie grower but I'm trying to learn and ur videos have lots of good info!!

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi William, the amount of pH down solution you are adding is so small, any change to PPM will be insignificant. (Remember, pH down will actually increase you PPMs - pH down is nutrient too!). I should update this video by the way. Add the micro first, then the grow, then the bloom. Happy growing.

      Hi Vick, thanks for your comments. Flora Series 3 part was developed for heavy fruiting annual plants but there’s no reason why you couldn’t use it to grow lettuce - I have! Your target EC should be 1.2 mS - I recommend using a cal/mag product to get up to 0.15 mS and then make up the rest with three parts grow, two parts micro, one part bloom.

      Well i just realize that first 3-4 weeks dont need nutrients!Maybe something for roots like rootitfirst would do the job very well ! Now i use other nutrients cause they have dosage/lt and are more suitable for 100% soil mix !!! However i like to use florabloom for feeding(still i use it) because it hasnt any amount of nitrogen in it so the chances my plants got burn are reduced dramatically! For example when my plants get in flowering stage i use floraboom 1/1,5/2/2,5 ml etc for weeks 1/2/3/4 etc and i increase 0,5ml per week but at 2 last weeks i low dosage to 1,5/1 ml and then i flush for 1 week more so much nutrients got away and final product smell and taste very nice

    • @DimitrisMelitzanis
      @DimitrisMelitzanis 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are very good but the disadvanage is that they dont have dosage for 1 litre as many other nutrients ! They have dosage something like 2,5ml per 10 litre for example in first weeks! Maybe you can divide like this 2,5/10 = 0,25 ml per litre ! Also i use only florabloom in dosages above and works perfectly but i use pk boosters like Big Bud , Bud candy , B 52 , Nirvana , Bud ignitor , Bud factor X and Rhino Skin in flowering stage ( Advance Nutrients) !!! As you can see i focus more in flowering stage instead vegative stage but i use rootitfirst for nitrogen and root boost first weeks until 3-4 week of my plants' life ! So they work absolutely in soil but be carefull because i dont know the dosages in vegative stage for micro and grow

      Hello Junior. Thanks for your question. Your plant requires some nutrition. I take it you are growing in water culture, perhaps a bubble bucket system? You should aim for a low strength nutrient solution, especially for a young plant in water culture. Assuming your water is close to zero PPMs, try 200 - 300 PPMs or 0.4 - 0.6 mS at the very beginning. What brand of nutrients are you using? If it's a standard three part try one mil of each part per gallon.

      @Just4Growers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vegan Vampire Hey VV! Thanks for the feedback-really good to hear you're finding the vids useful.
      Great question too: 70 ppms is indicative of fairly decent, soft tap water. When using a three-part nutrient, I always recommend using all three parts. If you have hard water (i.e. it shows 200+ ppms on your TDS meter or a professional water analysis shows you have 70+ ppms calcium) then you can either choose a "hard water micro" formulation (i.e. same 'grow' and 'bloom' but the 'micro' part has been specifically formulated for hard water -it will say so on the label) or try purifying your water with reverse osmosis.
      Remember: hard or soft water-you still need to use the 'micro' component. It's just a case of whether you choose "hard water micro" or "regular micro".

    • @veganvampire9084
      @veganvampire9084 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everest Fernandez Thanks Everest, I didn't know it came in a non hard water version. I am only growing leafy greens atm and use the Masteblend formula that Mhpgardener uses. I am in the design phase of setting up 2 4x4 grow areas to do tomatoes, cuqs and bell peppers and I will need different nutrients for them I think. Vegan Vampire Thanks VV. I am a big fan of MHP's channel. I could listen to that guy all day! He's a very cool dude. General Hydroponics' three-part formula has become somewhat of an industry standard / benchmark and for good reason-it helps to grow amazingly productive, healthy plants and growers enjoy great pH stability. I'd definitely give their Flora Series a try-it's a lot quicker than mixing up your own nutrients from minerals and the price is decent too.

    Questions Bro : How many times do I water and feed my plants a week....it seems that sometimes they dont need any watering until 6/7 days later as soil is damp and moisture is still there....how do you know when to water it (By hand and Tank) - if its a nutrient reservoir.....and I have the water going through TRICKLERS....how long do I release the nutrients/water into the PLANT (20/30 secs - maybe more give or take tubes size) and how many times a day?... thanks

      +Skurken Affe Hi Skurken, you need to use the micro as well. All those trace elements are very important, even if they are in lower numbers. There's also calcium in there too-all important for stem strength (think bones!) and for transporting other nutrients.

      Some nutrient companies produce a "Hard Water Micro" and a "Regular Micro" part - the former has less calcium. For best results, use RO water and a regular base hydroponic nutrient.

      Russell Tillery Thanks Russell. I'm glad the video was helpful. Professional grade hydroponic nutrients often contain ingredients that act as pH buffers as well as nourishment for the plant. It's good practice to check pH every day in re-circulating hydroponic growing systems as it tends to drift upwards, especially when adding top-up solution to the reservoir. And yes, you're right, always check pH AFTER, not before, adding your nutrients any any additives. Please sub the channel for lots of practical info on pH monitoring and control! :)

      Hi Jerome-calmag supplementation can be a crop dependent thing too. Big bell peppers love a bit of extra calmag! If your EC is over 0.6 mS then consider a hard water micro. I recommend using calmag (up to 0.4 mS) with RO water or anything < 0.2 mS

    ? Question. I'm using micro grow and Bloom. Do I need to add Cal Mag. They say if you use Advanced Nutrients, not to add anything else. I'm growing Hayes marijuana. Does these nutrients have calcium and magnesium already in it.?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Base hydroponic nutrients of any brand already contain soluble calcium and magnesium. The thing is, they are designed for use with regular tap water which already contains some calcium and magnesium ions typically. So if you’re using reverse osmosis pure water you should supplement with cal/mag. Also, if you’re growing in coco coir you should add some cal/mag as this media clings on to it. Try 150 PPM (0.3 mS) of cal/mag before you add your base nutrients.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello amigo. Your hunch is right! Hard water nutrient formulations go easy on calcium and magnesium levels as they assume already high levels in the source water. RO water doesn't contain any solutes (or virtually none) - so is arguably in need of some supplementary calcium and magnesium. So you're using a nutrient product that's low in calcium and magnesium with water that needs supplementary calcium and magnesium. :) An easy fix would be to buy some cal/mag and add it first to your RO water until the EC reads 0.5 mS. Then add your hard water formulation. Hope this helps.

    Hi Everest - Love your videos and site. I'm running a NFT system using a 2 part nutrient mix at around 1.2 EC. I notice that in less than a week my EC drops by a quarter. The water in the reservoir probably also drops by 1/8 as I'm in a hot and humid climate, and running outdoor hydro.
    Anyways, the issue is that the leaves on the plants are NOT a lush dark green, they're becoming quite pale. I suspect it's because somehow the plants are sucking the nitrogen out of the water more quickly than is available. The problem seems to be exacerbated if I get lazy and don't fully change the reservoir water, and only top up H20, plus A+B to get back to my 1.2 EC.
    The only nutrient I currently change is the total concentration of the A+B mixture. My guess is that with these mature plants, y default nutrient solution is not delivering the correct proportion of nutrients to the plants, and that I need to switch to a 3-part solution to vary both the nutrient proportion and the concentration. What do you think?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Luong Hi James, thanks for your question. I don't think you necessarily need to change your nutrient brand or product. A two part is just as good at delivering nitrogen and other macro elements as a three part - albeit with less flexibility. But you do need to raise your EC. 1.2 mS seems a little low unless you're growing lettuce. Also, your high humidity means your plants are drawing up less water (and fewer nutrients) than they might be due to lower vapor pressure deficit (VPD). What is your starting EC of your source water (before nutrients) and are you keeping the pH around 6.0 and not letting it drift towards 7 or higher? Try building your nutrient strength up gradually to 1.8. Are you growing flowering / fruiting plants? Also, are you topping up your reservoirs every other day with plain water or half strength nutrient solution?

    How often do you use the flora mix in dirt or hydroponic grow water

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Minei - thanks for your question. When growing in dirt or soil-based potting mixes, check the nutritional content of the potting mix first. Some manufacturers offer lighter mixes that require supplemental fertilizer from the get go. Others are already rich in nutrition and don't require any supplemental fertilizer at the beginning. You can use Flora Blend with soil-based potting mixes. Just go easy with it at first. Remember the old adage "feed weakly weekly!" - obviously the amount you use depends on your crop and its development in the lifecycle. For hydroponics, refer to manufacturer's instructions. Remember, it is far easier to correct under-feeding than over-feeding.
      We will post some videos on how often you need to change-out your hydroponic reservoir very soon! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to fire them over. Best of luck with your grow. Everest.

    Thank you soooo much for this Video. Every video about how to feed your plants have been so unhelpful. Al it takes is someone to go into detail and show how they measure out there Nutrients. A lot of growers just make videos to show off there plants with out giving information for new growers. I still haven't figured out what soil to use for indoor growing and i'm using the Girl Scout cookies. If i get a soil that has nutrients in it, should i still feed it more with the Flora ? also bought 1000Watts light for the plants. Is that too much for seedlings ? How long does it take for seedlings to move into Vegetive stage ?. Any help will be much appreciated and i will definitely Sub.

      Hi amigo, thanks for your message. If growing in soil, just feed with water - preferably soft water, not hard. 1000W grow lights are too much for seedlings. Invest in some T5 fluorescents and position 18” away from your seedlings, reducing to 12” as they become established over 2 weeks or so.
